Simple question. Is it intended that Manta of Distraction(Power Block) interrupts your GS 4 skill? I know that Mirror Blade is unblockable, which is okay, but getting a full burst through your GS4 isn’t fun. I even did the jump trick to get the full block duration…

I’ve played mes and ranger— Ranger MUCH longer, so I asked an expert. A friend of mine who has played Mes since release.

His explanation is, well, pretty simple. “The mesmer has so many attacks so quickly that the block doesn’t really matter. Mirror blade will cancel the block and everything else (all the clones will hit).”

Only ranged attacks will take multiple hits.

All in all GS4 is a trainwreck.

GS 4 is actually pretty powerful. Even against mesmers. The trick is to constantly be moving away from the shattering clones. See clone shatters (the other half of a gs mesmers burst) have an aoe effect in them. And GS4 only auto pops on skills that happen in melee range. Meaning if your moving away they “clip” you with there aoe range. Shatters are blockable. Meaning when done properly and with a little luck you can bloke all of the shatters without your counterattack triggering leaving you stuck for the rest. Not as reliable as dodging obviously but sitll an option

Mirror blade will go through greatsword 4 yes. But its possible to almost completely nullify mirror blade as a ranger.

Moving closer to your pet for example will cause the second bounce to aim for it and attempt to bounce back for it. This can be hilarious on say. A smoke scale with smoke field up causing hte blade to pass right through it. Or a fire wyvern that is in the middle of its F2.

Or simply pet swapping while the blade is moving towards it. Or letting it hit the pet and dodging it on the way back often causing it to fly up in the air instead of hitting a clone behind you like dodging it can cause. Due to the pets lower hit box relative to your center.

GS4 is a skill that shines when used with other tools. For example in most builds GS4 is almost useless against a thief. Who blinds you when he attacks you causing your gs4 to miss.

However for a shout ranger running trooper runes this isn’t an issue. As each shout clears a condition. You can pop a shout when necessary to clear blind making sure counter attack lands. Very few thieves can adapt to this and they often either retreat or panic. The trick is the timing here.

Im not saying you should suddenly run x build. Or do x thing. But seemingly impossible to beat attacks are often beatable if you think outside the box a bit.

Once you learn how to nullify a GS mesmers burst. The only time they should really kill you is if they nail you with gravity well when you don’t have a stunbreak. Or they burst you from stealth while you are distracted fighting something else. But these are THEIR domains. And they should have the advantage in those situations. Much like how in a fight where the ranger engages on the mesmer he often has the advantage.

and please do ignore shadelang, his post reminded me when people used to say “deactivate auto attacks” for the sword when that skill was a complete trainwreck as well. I wish for some day the skills from ranger would actually work as intended instead the complete incompetence mess are right now.

Did we get the fix in GS5 or still has a range of -3?

I’m not quite sure since I haven’t played GS very often in the past, but I think it was fixed for one or two weeks. After a hotfix-patch they reverted it according to the community. An oversight that has never been fixed.

I love GS. Nothing hits harder. Most people in pvp do not expect the burst.

Wish the gs5 performed better but, I still love it.

Hahaha Ill be honest I could probably have worded it better. But I fealt it would be a good idea to give examples that I have actually done in game. Sorry about the wall of text.
