I fully understand that my chances as a ranger of getting into a dungeon are kinda crappy at best, but it’s what I’m hoping to do.

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-F;4sEFv-e2REV-0;9k3Z;1TO49-26919;23;3L;08Z;1ud6Rk8dZBBGz0-N0L0;0VOV_WYXjYiZv_6o0570kW8aNX8a;9;9;9;9;9;5Ek3F

My goal with the build is to do some more support kind of stuff, while still maintaining at least a decent amount of damage. I confess I don’t have much of an idea when it comes to food/weapons, it’s my first stab at a build.

A few questions:

-What’s the range on Spotter? It’d make me rather annoyed to not help out group members if it’s some BS 350 AoE.

-Neither of the marksman grandmaster traits really made me go “wow”, so at the moment I’m using Eagle Eye. Would it be a better idea to go with Piercing arrows?

-Spirits. I’ve seen how dang squishy they are, and I’m wondering if taking Spiritual Knowledge offsets this enough. If not, I might go with the 5% Vigor to Power, or some other thing.

Am I getting close at all? Is it too glassy to survive? Too support-y to damage? Any suggestions you can give would be awesome.

Can I get some kind of feedback? I really do enjoy ranger, but I just haven’t played the class as much as other people on this forum have.

first: never use spirits, they are useless.
if u want support. put 30 points on nature magic, and use “guard”.
put altruism runes in your armor and grab healing spring for more buffs, healing. use horn for your off set
put min 20 points on skirmish or marksman for LB range or recharge
spend the other 20 points as you wish. wilderness for armor and offhand recharge or skir/marks for the other half of the longbow trait. maybe 10 points on beast and choose the 20% shout trait.

WSR→Piken→Deso→Piken→FSP→Deso
Just the WvW

2 superior runes of the monk, 2 superior runes of the water and 2 major runes of the monk + 30 points in nature magic will give you +70% boon duration.

The word “ranger” does not originate from the
word “range” but from “to range”.

@ Delbaeth – Good to see you putting your neck on the line and risking forum hate! Brave.

I’m in the same boat as you, playing around with a few things but not massively experienced with the Ranger… I played around with a similar build but found it was just a bit lacking i.e. it didn’t necessarily do anything well.

At the minute I am trying out a 30/0/10/30/0 set up. This allows me to keep up regen through “Guard” (for the group and me) and a bit of protection. It also factors in a bit of oomph from range with the longbow combined with survivability with Sword/Dagger (evades) in melee which also doubles up as an escape mechanism with the leaps from sword skills #1 and #2.

My initial reaction is that I have geared towards too much toughness/vitality/healing with the gear I have chosen so I am going to trip out the accessories with power/precision/crit damage to see if that improves it. What I have found is that it takes a while to get killed. As I run around in a small group in WvWvW, staying alive and keeping others alive is my main tactic while harassing from range (but maintaining mobility).

Skills below – I tend to change these quite regularly, still experimenting but:
Utility skills: Lightning Reflexes, Signet of Stone, Guard
Heal: Trolls Ungeant
Elite: I flip between Rampage as One and Entangling Roots. Probably go for Rampage as One once I have a bit more Power/Crit in my build.

At work so can’t post more details. Still very much a work in progress though… Hope the above helps.
