heya folks,

Just hit 80 with my ranger and it’s my first character on this game.
Could someone please tell me what are the next steps ingame towards building my character?

I was told I need to acquire exotic armor pieces and then work on ascended pieces.
1) Where do I get those? Which type of exotic pieces should I buy? I’d like to build a character that does well in PVE (no raids though) and occasional WvW.
2) I read a lot of build threads but none use the longbow. Is Ranger/Druid not the good class to play an archer style of gameplay at end game?
3) Anyone could recommend an all purpose build + equipement guide for an all purpose range/druid?

You get exotics basically from trading post. You want to aim for Berserker (Power, Precision, Ferocity) stat combination.
You can also get them for dungeon tokens but dungeons pretty much faded away. There’s not enough people running them for you to farm them.

Ascended armor is crafted by yourself which will be Leatherworker and … Weaponsmith / Huntsman.

There are a few builds that carry Longbow around and they are perfectly viable. It’s just that camping a single weapon is not the answer in GW2. Ever. Regardless of build or profession. You want to swap weapons as much as you can to get the most out of CDs and Trait procs (quickdraw).

About the build – well, this might be the one you are looking for. Ideally I’d suggest you to get Tiger but that one is hard to get (it’s in the last HoT map and you can find one only after 2hour event).

Also, if you are paired with a group (dungeons or Fractals) you should get Frost Spirit in place of Sick’Em.

These builds are naturally not ideal but should help you with swift roaming, quickly bursting your targets and both have AoE on both weapons – which gives you ability to tag (hit a few times) as many NPCs for as much loot as you can get.

I assumed you don’t have mastery points, yet so I left out druid spec, too. But if you have HoT, you should definitely get Bristleback. It’s our best pet.
If you don’t have one, aim for jaguar in addition to Jungle Stalker.
