Permanent Stow - An Option for Lone Wolves
There is a button to stow the pet? why make this thread if there’s already an option for this, minus the permanence.

Not to mention the pet stays stowed until you take damage… So if he was a total boss without a pet he’d never have to see one…

There are time like in world pvp when taking a keep fighting at the door that pets die very quick or a champ mob that does AOE and kills pet fast then you got a dead pet standing next to you and as soon as you get out of combat he is back up and then dies again 10 seconds later it would be nice if stow would hold the pet until you want him back out.
I love my pet just cant stand watching him die every 10 seconds.
I dont write much on forums in general, but this one is actualy not a bad idea.
Personaly I like my pets, they are a great tool – When they work that is.
It would be a great adition, because of those times where your doing a jump puzzle – Running from A to B, and dont want unneccesary agro. Or when I just plain dont want it there, yeah there are such times
But I do think that they should’nt implement it, untill they fix the pet AI, pathing, and give it the darn abillity to hit a moving target! This is number one in my book, to hit a moving target.. seriously, why cant it ?
Ohh, and it amazes me how many people who dont even read the thread, but just reply what they think they know, out of the header of the thread. Yeah there’s a stow, but 1 point of damage, and it’s there again – only now with a timer. Quite anoying when trying to jump in cramp spaces.
Why the heck argue against adding features to a class ? I could understand if it was removing a said feature, but adding ? Sometimes I think people just argue, for the argument, it’s sad really.

Same reason we argue with rifles. It goes against what the class is clearly supposed to be. We are a druid pet class with some martial weapons training. We are not supposed to be without our pets ever.

Again, it aint about removing a feature, it’s about adding it.
And on the; It goes against what the class is clearly supposed to be ?
I know the class is defined as a pet class, that’s why I play it – I like having a pet as a tool. But sometimes it’s just plain in the way – So why not add a feature, where I can put it away, untill I want it out again ? Seriously, how can that be a issue ?
I aint asking, nor do I think most are, about a buff when it aint out – That’s just plain dumb, since again, its a pet class. And it would kitten me, if I chose to not have it out in combat (Though it does’nt hit anything anyways in PvP, since people are moving all the time, and seldom stand still long enough for it to get through the hit animation. But for PvE It’s a bloody great tool)
I have’nt read the thread about the discussion on rifles, and tbh this thread aint about that, so i’ll politely jump over it – Yet go look for that thread, and have a read.
(Btw, appologies about any gramatical errors – It aint me native tongue)

Once people see that they can change the class by asking eliminating the mechanic, I have a feeling things would only snowball from there. Soon, people WILL start asking for the buff. Then they’ll start being more aggressive about having a marksman mechanic.

You keep talking about taking away stuff, or as you put it, eliminating a mechanic.
Again, it’s not about removing feature/mechanics or what ever you want to call it.
It’s about adding to the class. Adding a fix, to something that is a problem.
And yes, it is a problem when one gets annoyed about something, thats supposed to be a addition, but becomes a hinderance.
Such examples can be, again, and I do apologize about repeating myself – when you move from point A to B, or do a jump puzzle.
The camera plain and simply gets in the way, and the pet does pull a lot of agro (Many times such said agro, is other people running by with a train – why does it want to attack my pet when its on passive, and ive not attacked any of them ? )
And I do find it quite paranoid, to think that because some people want a solution to some problems, or throw some ideas up in the air – Then it must create a snowball-effect, wich will stear the class away from what YOU seem to think the class should be.
I do think that Anet can think for them selfs, and know what they want with the class. But this is a forum about rangers, and what people feel needs a second look upon. And since this thread has been made, then perhaps some people would like them to consider, the posibility of a more permanent stow?
There have been lot’s of ideas been thrown up in the air. Some might be valid, or not in your oppinion – But that’s what a forum is about. Making ideas come to life, and perhaps alter things to the better, or not. Depending on the point of view, then again – All is in the eye of the beholder.

I’m pretty sure a lot of what ANet has put out there about rangers supports MY idea of what their intention of the ranger is.
And I personally don’t find this a fix. I find it to be an extrememly lazy alternative to admitting you rolled the wrong class or actually having pets brought up to speed.
Plus, we do have stow option for pets for when we do puzzles or are just traveling and don’t want to pick up aggro. Or anything. It just brings them back out when you take damage.

Well, I’m gonna try and break it down as good as I can.
I’m pretty sure a lot of what ANet has put out there about rangers supports MY idea of what their intention of the ranger is.
That is your oppinion, and that is how you choose to see it. It’s a free world, so if thats how it is, thats how it is… But the diffinition of their Ranger, where for quite some time, a person with the most focus upon ranged combat (it has been changed since) A class that, out of their diffinition, where the best ranged class there was (exceeding in ranged combat, I do belive the words was)
I personaly dont think that, that fits the picture before me.
I think we (Ranger players) can all agree, that the Ranger is great. Then again, some might think that it is not, more power to them! But I do personaly think, that the warrior does more ranged damage in pvp. But i’m going off topic, so i’ll cut it short here.
Then we have; And I personally don’t find this a fix. I find it to be an extrememly lazy alternative to admitting you rolled the wrong class or actually having pets brought up to speed.
If YOU dont see it as a fix, but a lazy mans alternative. Then that’s what you think, I cant, nor why should I pull an idea down your head – Then again neither should you mate.
And how can you be so arogant, to put out such a statement, that I’ve choosen a wrong class, just because I find, that there are a couple bumps on the road ahead of me ? and what does the second part mean ? or actually having pets brought up to speed ?
Yeah, I find, that pets are having a few hickups – Are you saying, that I should ignore that ?
(And on a complete sidenote – I’ve got multiple classes 50+ I could just play a different character, but choose to play Ranger most, since I like the class. That be, that it’s a pet class)
Plus, we do have stow option for pets for when we do puzzles or are just traveling and don’t want to pick up aggro. Or anything. It just brings them back out when you take damage
Again, and this is the third time i’m repeating myself – Hope it’s the last.
Pet’s pop out of stow, when you take a point of damage – That happens all the time, if one falls a tad.
And why should’nt I have the option of putting away my pet, when traveling ? Most of the times I cant, cause A. I’m playing, then some random player pulls a train past me, wich gets me killed, since they attack my pet. Wich many times are on passive (I want to choose what it hits, not vice versa)
or B. I’m running with it on passive, use a skill or something in the likes – and pull every mob around me.
Again, and again… It’s about adding features, not taking away.
I do think that we’ve used enough bit’s on this conversation, and it’s pretty clear that you have a oppinion, and does’nt really want to take any ideas into consideration. It’s sad that on a forum, where ideas are supposed to come alive – One can choose to quelch
Said short; You’ve got your ideas set in granite, nothing can alter your oppinion. So why play the vocal ping pong about it really ? Why even be on a forum of ideas, if one does not want to make room for those ideas?
It’s a ponder really.
EDIT;
I wans’nt really clear, and that might be because I cant really define what I mean in English, about the part about putting away my pet when traveling from a to b. I admit, that it might sound strange, and give little meaning.
But what I tried to get out, was that it’s not allways good to have a pet out, and I personaly simply want them to look at, and reconize, that sometimes it does more bad, than good. Be it camera angle, or blocking whole screen – Pulling agro at bad times, while traveling. Popping out, and ninja pull x amount of mobs, just because I fell x mm to far (i’ve run over what I define as hills, but the game see as mountains)
If they feel that the pets are as they (Anet) say it should be, then thats how the cookie crumbles – And I have to accept that. But untill then, I think that it’s only fair to raise awareness upon what one think is broken.

There is a stow button, and in many ways the current system works.
So if they just added an checkbox in the options menu “manually stow and call pets” then everyone wins. No drama, no fuss.
I would support a perma-stow option if only to make jumping puzzles less annoying. Having them pop back out when you take damage from a fall gets really old really fast. And/or some sort of perma (stealth when not in combat feature) so that they don’t decide to run in front of me or path through a mob and draw aggro I was trying to avoid…
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.

I agree with this 100%.
My concern echos others here. Sure there are times that I tell my pet to take a hike (jumping puzzles, waypoint runs, etc) and yeah when I get hit and he pops back out it can be a little annoying. My concern is that if this mechanic is changed to manual or perma stow, how long before those SAME people that are asking for it are back here saying “I started stowing my pet because it is useless to me, but now I am losing damage / buffs because I do not want to run with a pet, and we should get buffed to compensate for not using a pet!” I am not saying everyone would, but if you think some people would not, you are deluding yourself. Do not take this as an attack, it’s a simple statement of fact that it WILL happen.
As to having the option? I personally could see myself using it on rare occasions sure, but not enough to warrant the trouble it would lead to later…not when other classes in the game deliver almost the exact same style of play minus the pets. If no other class had access to bows, or if no other class had medium ranged combat, then MAYBE I could see it.
If you are saying you want to play a ranger because you love the class…that class comes with a pet. It really is that simple. Pets need some love and no mistake, but it IS what makes a ranger a ranger IN THIS GAME, so either find ways to work with it, or move on to another class.

No need for this option. If the pet is getting in the way, switch to a small pet like a raven then put it in non-aggressive mode.
A Ranger is a Pet class, I think the only one that has a permanent non-timed summon in the game. Switch to another class if you don’t like pets.
I love my pets. That’s why I chose to play as a ranger. I actually have 30 points in Beast Master. I’m no glass canon who’s trying to get rid of my pet and ask for extra buffs in return.
Yet the fact remains that there’s a stow pet button already. It just doesn’t work the way many of us expected. In real life, if I put my dog in a kennel, the pooch ain’t getting out until I let him. I just expect the same option in the game, that’s all. Nothing more, nothing less. Its not about not having a pet, or any of that bullkitten. I just want a stowed pet to stay stowed until I say otherwise. I mean, arguing against that would be like if we put our pets in passive mode, but the pet would automatically switch to aggressive mode if we took a single point of damage. That wouldn’t make sense would it? Neither does having a stow pet option that doesn’t stay stowed. If I put my pet on passive, it will sit there idle and watch me die if I don’t tell it otherwise. I’d like the same control over the stow pet button.
If you don’t see the need, that’s fine. We don’t have to agree. Some of us consider the stow pet button to be bugged as it is now, and are asking for a fix. That’s all…
Thanks.
PS. To those who would want an option to make a pet-less ranger, that I strongly disagree with. Pick a different class if you don’t want a pet. All I want is the ability to stow my pet and have it stay there, complete with the accompanying loss of stats in the meantime.
