Ok so I’m sure there has to be something I’m overlooking here, please know I’ve only been a 80 ranger for a few weeks and have only been reading the forums for that time. It’s my 4th Character.

The basic idea is this: Pet “Classes”
Different pets would be given different classes which would affect how they take damage and some of their basic mechanics. Such as a bear pet would be a tank class, and would work like the current system works. But a cat pet would be a damage dealer class, and would only take damage when the ranger takes damage (or something to this affect), however it can not take hate from any mobs. This could go further to include boon pets, and maybe for those pets specifically the f1-f4 skills could be changed so you can manage the boons.

Feel Free to shoot this down, someone has already thought of this probably… but hey I have only been reading the forums for a few weeks and off and on at that.

if you look closely at their stats, the pet types already fall under these distinctions. most pet types are built towards a specific build type, with the exceptions being not very good in the first place. Bears, for instance, have massive health and armor pools, and the ability to ignore damage for a short period, as well as cure conditions on itself. A cat, on the other hand is as you said a damage dealer. Birds such as the raven are the only pets in the game that got amped up during the last ‘balance’ patch because nobody was using them, but they’re our highest damage pets; they’re just fragile.

I was day dreaming just this afternoon what if they give pets passives?.

-Bird pets could go something like “Flight: This pet ignores terrain elevation”(Going up and down cliffs, walls, etc)

-Cats may have “Lethal Paws: Critical damage increased 20%”

-Canines “On the hunt: Basic attacks cripple when enemy’s health is below 33%”

-Bears “Defender: Every damage that exceeds X% of ranger’s hp in one hit is transferred to pet”

-Spiders "Venomous Nature: Basic attacks have X% to cause poison

Would be nice to have them all activate if you go 30 in bm or make them permanent maybe.
