GW1: The Ranger had full control about all pet abilities.
GW2: The Ranger controls only 1 pet Ability.
GW1: Pets attacked as soon as they were in attack range.
GW2: Pet (often/always) don’t attempt to follow their target. Abilities get cast though there is no target within range.
GW1: Many builds had to work without a speedbuff.
GW2: Each character has access to one or several speedbuffs which can be used at low/no cost (2nd hand set)
=> Pets have a harder time reaching their target.
=> A smaller timeframe to actually land an attack.
==> Attacks often miss
->
GW1: Pets used to make a small leap towards their target when attacking.
GW2: Pets stop their movement, stand still and cast their attack animation

GW1: No hight (target on a bride could be attacked from beneath)
GW2: Hight. No jump option for pets.
=> X >3/4 of all pets can be kited by jump up and down stairs, forcing the pet to run the full way.
GW1: Pets had strong damage reduction. (1Call of Protection. 2Otyugh’s cry 3Symbiotic Bond) UPTIME >Cooldown (1,3); UPTIME =5/6 Cooldown(2).
GW2: Damage reduction can’t be kept active. regeneration is weak. (1Signet of Stone. 2.Signet of the Wild) UPTIME = 1/20 Cooldown; UPTIME=When unused. Heal/sec < 1/1000th max Hp
=> Pets have only weak defense.
GW1: No dodge, stationary casting. Easy targets.
GW2: Constantly moving targets. Dodge roll. No option of counterplay for pets.
<=>
GW1: Strong pet defense (scroll 1up). In general no dodg(eroll)ing mechanism.
GW2: No option do dodge incoming damage.
Note: GW2 dungeons and PvP have dodging deeply inbound into their mechanism. The damage of several sources is balanced by the fact it can be dodged.
PvP: 100 Blades etc. ;WvW: Canons etc. ;Dungeons: Mr. A, Lupicus, etc.
GW1: Pets could be revived quite fast.
GW2: Pets can be swapped once, but reviving is impossible.
GW1: Pet heals were extremely strong.
GW2: Pet and players heal are all either AoE, or combined. Hence low pet heal amounts.
Bug?-Section:
GW1: Pets reacted instantly when you called them back. When you told them not to fight, they didn’t fight.
GW2: Pets react like a seven year old frustrated boy. The only thing which is reliable is the fact that the control is not reliable at all. Pets attack when you tell them not to, etc.
Conclusion:
*Rangers have less control (3/4 pet skills; bad pet unresponsive)
*Pets have less survivability
-Pet lack access to a core mechanis (dodge)
-Pet heal bound to Ranger heal (=>weak), or is weak by nature (Signet)
-Weak protection options (skills, 1/20 uptime)
*Even skilled (30%) pets have a difficult time reaching their target:
-More mobile enemies due to traits and easy haste access.
-Jumping
*Pets stop to attack moving targets. Extremely high miss rate.
Ok, I lied.
It wasn’t small at all.
Comment:
Sure this isn’t GW1 anymore, but I am certain that pointing out the differences between GW1 and GW2 helps to see at what point transfering the Ranger failed.*
Sincerely,
Sdric
