Pets and Dodging!
They want to change the trait where the ranger and his pet get protection on dodge in a way that the protection is applied after the dodge which is a good thing for the ranger. But with our pet proably getting the protection after the dodging they will have to implement something like what you proposed. If the pets gets the protection only after the ranger dodge is completed it will die even faster than now. As it is now you can dodge to give your pet at least protection to survive some burst skills.
I think invulnerability for the same amout of time as the ranger dodges would be perfectly fine. That would reward good play and in my opinion it wouldn’t make pets overpowered, especially since the ranger sacrifices a dodge for his pet.
Nobody choses to target the pet as it is in PVP/WvW, it would actually have zero impact to grant 2sec of invulnerability to the pet on the start of the ranger roll, and it would make wonders to the overall gameplay-
After reading all these posts about how pets are being one shotted by the new Tequatl, it just made me think about how awesome it would be if pets gained a second of invulnerability when we dodged.
Funny, it made me think how awesome it would be to have a perma-stow option.
Anet could easily boost Companion’s Defense without making us overpowered in anyway, but could possibly help make a big difference for pet survivability.
Current Companion’s Defense:
You and your pet gain 2 seconds of protection when you dodge roll.
Suggestion:
You gain 2 seconds of protection when you dodge roll. Your pet gain 2 seconds of aegis. When aegis ends, your pet gains 2 seconds of protection.
Also, like Arpheus said, the trait really needs an overhaul anyway, so that the protection is applied AFTER the dodge, since we don’t need protection during a dodgeroll anyway. Like it is now, we only really get 1.25 seconds of protection ourselves.
