@Jcbroe The issue here is that they seem currently set in stone on the ranger being primarily a single target (ranged) focused profession with limit AoE supplements through stitutional weapon skill/utiltiy. So some of the limitation that are keeping the profession from top tier are there by design.
I totally agree and understand the design philosophy on it. But the issue is that, okay, if we are supposed to suffer in that regard, where then do we excel where other classes don’t perform so well?
We don’t give boons as well as other classes, we don’t punish people for having boons as well other classes, we don’t bring AoE stealths or cleanse or heals, and we don’t control as well as other classes.
So has all of the limited or lacking functionality just somehow been rolled into enough damage boosts to compensate? I mean, I’m honestly not sure, so don’t read this as sarcasm lol. Maybe I’m underestimating the value of like, a Quickdraw empowered Longbow’s ability to Rapid Fire a target down, or double Mauling somebody, but I’ve looked over and understand the other classes buffs as well and as far as I can tell, the current meta Apex predators will continue to be so without any competition from Ranger builds.
I do so some great potential with a sustain-y based power survival build however. Something like 6/0/6/6/0, though the more damaging option would be 6/6/6/0/0. If damage bonuses stack and certain ones are universal, you can, under certain circumstances, have somewhere around a 40% damage boost going before even factoring in Spotter, so I mean, it’s one of those things where I need to physically experience it playing out, but that right now, I can only comment on the options I’ve seen, which so far don’t improve the position of our builds in the competitive environment much, and thieves particularly are getting some more crazy things they can do than currently.
I almost forgot the mention the issue of the ranger is kind of stuck design wise as the illegitimate love-child of warrior and thief that they left in the wood and who’s only friends are the pet and those weird elemental tree ghosts.
The ranger overlaps too much with archetypes of thief and warrior and so it kind of feels like the ranger can’t have nice things as because of the existence of warrior, thief, and the pet.
IB and EB could be combined so that; Your pet draws one condition from you every 5s. When your pet gains a condition, it heals for X in an area around it. 1s ICD on the heal.
Nope. I’m against that idea.
EB is still a useful trait even if you’re not a condi ranger.
I know you really love it, a lot of rangers do, but I think its pretty clear anet doesn’t want us to have both. so are you saying you are in favor of its current placement?

With the change in quickness being a boon and subject to boon removal they may want to look at the penalties associated with quickening zephyr and similar skills.
So ultimately, it really won’t be that any ranger builds are bad. As a matter of fact, every build to some degree gets pretty significantly improved. But the improvements all occur in areas that weren’t previously holding us out of PvP meta. Our power builds lack the ability, as far as we’ve seen, to bring as much utility (outside of self utility) as other classes power builds. No real lockdown abilities (comparatively), limited AoE, lack of boon removal, lack of specific boon application, lack of team wide cleansing/functionality/etc (there might be some niche role with fury that has become available, but that isn’t really a unique function either). These are all things that matter significantly at a top tier level.
we still have yet to see what druid line offers in regards to these shortcomings.
and to go back Revisit my idea of adding condi cleans or condi-boon convert on Invigorating bond, we have ourselves a nice support build, similar to shoutbow:
OH Warhorn for Call of the Wild

Windborne Notes (regen added to call of wild, reduce CD to 24 seconds on WH)
Beastmasters Bond (call of wild on pet swap)
Resounding Timbre (SHouts applies regen and swift)
Beastly Warden (Pet F2 taunts foes in area)
Invigoarating Bond (Pet f2s heal, and convert conditions to boons)
pretty much perma might, fury, swiftness, regen, and a hard cc for team with a single (maybe double) condi-boon convert every 20 seconds
EDIT: not to mention each Call of the Wild is a Blast finisher

Rangers are getting access to more blast finishers, and more might stacking.
I would say it is incorrect that we can’t provide boons as well as other classes. Seems to me that with the new traits a celestial ranger can operate in a similar way to ele.
