I am still able to see my pet when I stealth from laying the traps. Is my pet stealthed at the same time that I am?

If the pet is not stealthed as he runs right beside me, then doesn’t this kind of defeat the purpose of the stealth in WVW? Doesn’t the enemy just need to watch for where my pet is to know where I am?

But I may be missing something. Please advise. Thanks.

Your pet never stealths when you do unless it’s an AoE stealth like shadow refuge. Also don’t use minipets in WvW, as they also never stealth. Don’t spread that around though, I’m enjoying killing all these stealthed thieves with their minis permanently out.

The pet thing isn’t too bad because presumably it’s chasing your target and not at your side anyway.

Well, if I am go all out condition, with 2/6/6/0/0, then the pet dies pretty fast, and starts limping back to me

I’d recommend using a tankier pet then, a dead pet always does less damage than a live pet, even if it’s a bear.

Don’t forget to swap pets too. Preferably before they die.

A good idea is to send the pet out to go F1 a target when you stealth, so it doesn’t follow you through stealth. If you don’t want to send your pet into the fray, you can F1 → F3 → F1 → F3 repeatedly to hold your pet from actually going into the combat, but not being beside you.

If there is nothing else to target and you are using a pet that has a wind up animation on their F2 like a canine, instead of the pet being forced to follow you, you can do the same trick with F2 → F3 → F2 and constantly cause the pet to root itself and start the animation then cancel it so it doesn’t get used and go on cooldown.

While doing this, you can stealth and wander around and not be shown off by your pets location. A lot of times, this will even juke people out because they are very used to players letting their pets show off their location, so they will stick around your pet instead of you and you can gain some distance/close some distance (depends on where your effective range needs to be) and get the drop on them (or the escape if needed).

I hope that helps. It isn’t exactly an easy trick to get down though. Start by getting used to your pet being on passive instead of guard and then get used to manually controlling it. Once you do and you start to practice tricks like this, they become second nature.

Really makes me miss the GW(1) command system allowing me to set a spot for my pet.

Since the lack of smart pets is such a huge issue with GW2, I see nothing wrong with an added ability to set a spot for our pets to treat as “home,” basically a virtual player. Instead of running back to my side when using F3 or when not in combat, we set a flag that the pet retreats to instead.

Then we can get rid of that stupid Guard skill in favor of something that should be baseline.
