I couldn’t get this build to work for me when I tried it. It didn’t feel like I was doing enough damage and as soon as people realized I didn’t have a stun breaker, they started going after me pretty aggressively.

Even though Proxy seemed pretty kitteny, I kinda agree with him.
It could be a fun spec, you seem to be enjoying it wonderfully which is, well, wonderful.
If its working for you and your group and that’s all that really matters to you, no need to read on.

Anyone else concerned with trying it out…
When it comes down to the ability of the spec…
I run a LOT heavier condition setup with the same amulet and have to juggle conditions well to get threw most cleansing or down enemies before they down me…
That and carrion alone does not let a spec pull even decent physical dmg, the spec has no cleansing, at all, it has no anti CC, at all, it has no protection/high-toughness or other forms dmg mitigation short of the 1s after dodge-roll, barkskin and one extra dodge roll on heal skill and on one of the weapon swaps. It kinda gets me that the spec isn’t even pet dps focused to make up for the lack of it otherwise. Hyenas have half the power of other pets so don’t really end up netting notably more dmg than any wolf. They trade a time-able aoe fear for a random knockdown and wee bit more dmg. Fair enough to say few people run them :/
It doesn’t seem competitive, it is possibly entertaining and fun to mess around with with a group, but for people wanting to be an asset to the team while pugging or want to be carried by a bit more than what skill can wring out of this… ehhh.

Longbow gives that one CC, which is wonderful, don’t get me wrong. A pretty much instant ranged knockback can be beautiful at times. But at the cost of the majority of a spec…
Running power/crit longbow or even just tossing it for a cluster bomb spamming thief or mesmer and just running into a fight for a shatter seems to be a few more times effective at the same skill level.

And fire spirit?? that’s like beta talk all over again. Each person(??) can only proc it once every 10s… without that it would be considerable, it would be a considerable little glass dmg engine you could tuck away in corners against pugs and volley out a few dozen procs against a grouped up enemy team. But the fact it has that crippling internal CD… the fact it only buffs in a 600 radius… the fact it only has 6~k life and negligable toughness… the fact the active ability is bad… kills the thing.
At best longbow seems to be (I haven’t played it all that much) nifty with a high power/crit heavy pet dps build, but just because bird/feline pets can carry the meh that longbow is in some pug matches :/

@Gareth tbh, I think why my build does well and I have fun with it is because of the synergy it has from my friends builds, because I’ve been playing it in hotjoins (I HATE hotjoins…) because my friends have been MIA lately and it’s, -ok- there.

It -works- there but it’s certainly not as good as when I’m playing with my friends, granted, it may just be that we have communication and I’m not just being forced into Zerg vs Zerg warfare, idk.

I spent the last hour, and a half killing this build 20 out of 20 times, with six different toons.

Quit theorycrafting, and saying something works, without providing proof it does. This build is HORRIBLE, and if you are killing people with it, they are new to the game, or new to the class they are playing. There is no way a practiced player will lose to this.

Just for fun, I logged back in, and ran another test. Applying weakness to this build, with an uptime of 50% or more with weakness, as long as you have 2400 or better armor, this build can not kill you, even if you do nothing but weaken the person with this build and use your “6” heal every time it is up.

The two Rangers I had running this build, after being stun’d and dying against my Thief, Mesmer, and Warrior in four seconds asked; “Why would anyone do this to themselves”.

The reason I say this is it -could- be the case I’m just playing with bad players (seeing as how the MMR is all screwed up placing solo joins vs premades), and it’d certainly lead to more accurate results seeing as how I actually -use- the build.

I know if I were to use a trap build right now (only using one in beta) I’d be thinking the same thing as them because I’d completely suck at it and have no idea what I should be doing really.

The players (that are kitten good at PvP) I normally test my builds against are all on strike due to the quickness nerf, I know 2 of then are coming back when boon hate is introduced though, but who knows when that’ll be!

Not everything will work for everyone. It is just how it is. Let them live in their fantasy world where everything is equal.

Which is why i would like to test it agianst JK myself instead of him using random rangers who don’t use the build.

I am not spending any extra time on this build. I spent too much already.

I told you, if you want to duel me, we need to place something on the table to make it worth my while. I play with, and against some extremely good players, and the server I am on is known for its large sPvP/tPvP population.

Make it worth my while, and I will be happy to kill your build.

So your saying… you had enough time to spend over half an hour getting together a number of duels, fight and then post/rage about them. Then go back and test more, claim it is impossible to lose to, while of course destroying any positive feel of the thread. After all that… you then claim to be too busy for the guys nice response for a few minutes of dueling for the hell of it anyways, just so you can see where he is coming from and why he thinks what he does….

No you do not, it’s what me and my friends normally do for our duels, which tend to break out into wars when they end up getting filled with people…

Yeah that’s a bit annoying part about the SPvP servers, random pugs being thrown into low pop servers seems to be a bit more common now than it used to be (I played much more 5~ months ago), where if you were over rank 30 you pretty much were thrown exclusively in 4 or less man servers that dueled.

Anyways, it still works just fine, if in between a third~ and fourth duel you have to occasionally swap servers.

I’ll tell you what Durzlla. What three classes do you think are the weakest in sPvP? List the three, and I’ll chooose one. If I win with a class you should beat, considering I won’t know the optimal sPvP build for it, since I’m a WvW player, you’ll agree the build isn’t what you make it out to be? No bets, nothing, just a friendly duel so you can show me the build works?

Huh, fairly tough to pick those, warrior would totally be one of the weakest in tPvP especially post nerf, and then i’d have to say thief, and either engi or necro.

Granted seeing as how thief is only bad in tPvP because of the whole point capping thing i’d probably say it’d be Warrior, Engi, Necro.

I’ll choose the Necro. I’ve never played the Engineer, so you would get a better fight out of a training dummy. I might spend a week with the Warrior, and come up with a build. I’m curious why they’re so underpowered in sPvP, when you can rock with them in WvW.

And warriors are so underpowered in sPvP because of how easily they can be shut down and how easily their burst can be dodged, because unlike rangers, ALL their damage tends to rely on a short area of opportunity that most players can dodge a key aspect of. In WvW you can catch more people by surprise and you can also super buff yourself with foods and oils to an ungodly level (like every prof other than ranger, and other pet builds due to their pets not getting any stats).
