The pet is useless and the Bow is useless in a one on one battle. I feel like i am more of a cleric/supporter than a ranger in the Mists..Other People Character have more immunity against the ranger it is all most impossible to win..I switch character and became a thief and i have not lost a match with a ranger or a so called Mages they are easy to beat.If you like to heal and support and have a weak pet. This class is for you..Other than that dont expect anything else..

You’re just showing you forgot the game mechanics, don’t know how to trait away from zerkbow, and lost to every class in the game, even a mimic ranger. I support bad players’ decision to make thief their main instead of a ranger.

These kind of threads make me want to jump into a pvp match and just record it from start to end…. ain’t nobody got time for that.

Anyone who knows how to play ranger immediately understands this guy has no clue what he’s talking about. He even admits it himself unwillingly by saying he changed to thief lol. But he still thinks he’s an expert on ranger. Another shining example of stupidity.

(1) This feels like a troll-ish thread as I see no information; just opinions stated in a way that seems to be trying to intentionally tick people off.

(2) If you two want to throw down, there is a handy PM function on the forums. Feel free to use it. In fact, please do use it for the talk that is from one of you to the other. Otherwise you’re just posing which doesn’t reflect well on either of you.

(3) If you do fight it out, please record it. Without video, nothing that is said about the fight is going to matter.

(4) I think Thief vs Ranger depends on build. A good Thief should be able to wreck any class’s power build except Meditation Guardian (Thief’s supposed hard-counter). It is well-known that Thieves are currently quite dominant in the zerker meta. A tankier Ranger build however can give Thieves fits. Ultimately though, it does come down to skill.

(5) I’ll admit that I find highly skilled sword-dagger Thieves are king. It has such a high skill ceiling.

I’m fine with this thread. I personally have no problem killing thieves, most of them are terrible players that rely way too heavily on stealth to carry them. But the op is free to believe whatever he wants, hopefully he’ll go to the thief forum and make a thread about how under powered rangers are so we don’t have to listen to thieves crying about sic ’em and rapid fire once a week.

I use a lot of aoe burn and protection and the thief usually disengages and i just leave the area. I use sb and axe/torch and i don’t really have a problem killing.

Can’t stand playing Ranger, in this game, in anything other than solo PVE (with a longbow) and am fairly sure I would find pretty much any other class far easier and more intuitive to play.

Unfortunately, I’m not really interested in any other class, so I’m reluctantly coming to the conclusion that this game is simply not for me, despite the promising solo levelling experience.

I don’t think it really matters that he’s a beginner.

In fact, the fact that he is a beginner makes this subject even more interesting and relevant, IMO.

After all, if he’s a beginner Ranger, he’s also presumably a beginner Thief and yet he is honestly and without prejudice confirming what we virtually all know (and many people have said).

Which is that Ranger, in this game, is not a good class to play, in comparison to most (all?) other classes, in group situations, unless you are very experienced and confident in your abilites.

That in itself is a big issue, because no class should be far more reliant on experience than the others are.

All of them should be as equally easy, or hard, as it is possible to make them.

None of the classes should be reliant on someone being stubborn to the point of insanity and sticking to a far more challenging and difficult class, until they have finally mastered it.

Despite all the advice they receive from other players to just ditch it and while others faceroll over them and/or kick them from groups, repeatedly, until they have.

That is just really bad class design and balance.

Not only that, but I assume it’s also really bad for the game as a whole, because it is a well known fact that newer players often choose a Ranger/Hunter type role, as they like the idea of having a pet.

So, if their first experience of the game (and perhaps, of the genre, in general) is really bad, that will obviously not tend to bode well for the future of the game (and/or genre).

By no means i am no rookie..Must be Kouken is your guild mate..I got a Video coming up soon showing me pawning Rangers on a Lvl 35 Thief with squishy lvl 35 gear compare to their lvl 80.. Since you dont have the gall to challenge me proves even more i am correct…So please go back on the porch Pup, you are not top dog and you dont walk the talk..Keep dreaming my Dear wishful thinking.. Like i said the Only thing Rangers are good for is PVE and support in the mist..That is it!

I think the ranger is a wonderful class for the player who has been playing the game a while and wants to take the time to master the nuances of the class. For people saying a Condi Gen build cant kill in wvw I say horse pucky to you sir or madam!

Now for a new player I would say to stay far away from ranger because its easy to fall into the ranger suck barrel…

Having a tanky pet in PvE can let a person progress through the game without having to learn to notice telegraphs and dodge/block/etc.

Having so many people that panic and don’t know what to do about rapid fire can let a person think that all they need to do is max range and wait for that cooldown.

And so on.

That being said, the same could be said for some other classes as well … for example, Warrior and Guardian can teach some bad habits as well given that they can actually face-tank quite a bit.

As it stands at the moment pets are bugged. They are 100% balls deep all the time. Often getting themselves killed no matter how skilled you were in the past at pet management. This means that builds that depend on a living pet to support or as a damage source are incredibly risky to play. I feel deeply for those who play beastmaster builds.

My only work around for this has been switching to spiders and crawlers as they are ranged pets. In hindsight this is good I never use crawlers for anything prior to this bug and it’s brought me out of my comfort zone of dogs and cats.

None of this however has deterred me from playing ranger in WvW. What can I say…. It feels good to press 2 and trait piercing arrows then pick up bags. Instead of focusing on what you can’t do focus on what you can do. Sword/Dagger is very rewarding to whip out when a melee get’s in your face.

I was attacted to ranger because of the pet mechanic but I ended up liking every weapon ( yes even torch ) so with the current crippling bug to pets consider a build emphasizing solely around your weapons of choice.

My pet is not 100% “balls deep”. I just have to tell him to come back to me more often than I usually do … it’s an irritation, but it will likely pass … though the fix is slower than I’d like.

I agree that Ranger weapons are absolutely awesome. My only complaint there is being able to interrupt my Sword AAs with a dodge roll … I prefer more control over my character (hence why, yes, the pet bug is irritating … less control).

I’ve killed some thiefs in a sec using just LB#5 – Axe#5.
I could say ranger is pretty handy some times.

SotW, Sic Em, RF. Stealth does nothing, CC does nothing. 10-12k hp. Dead Thief. No pet needed.

I wish I knew how to play ranger.

If you do not know how to play ranger, will say that the ranger class is bad and the pet too, and if they continue’ll still have bad thief saying ranger is bad, but I’ll tell you one thing and who writes here is Raplion, I usually kill many thief and rangers so do not come with an excuse that the Ranger class is bad, Anet very balanced classes after the last balance, so that several people are crying because of the rapid fire.

Why cry so much? because ranger rather die easy, had no damage and the pets were buggy at this time, so please stop crying saying that the ranger class is op or ruim.Ranger is good as is.
