I’ll admit that the nerfs to ranger’s stability hurts. However, I can count 4 utility skills to break stun, and another 2 stun breakers from druid. This isn’t including the trait to transfer a stun to our pet. Of course now our elite spirit pulses AoE Stability if traited. From an sPvP perspective, very rarely is stability much more powerful then a stun breaker. Sure it mitigates the stun all together, but on demand stun breaks work almost as well.

The other ranger ability that took a huge hit was condi removal.
Signet of Renewal was summarily destroyed. It’s old abilities of removing conditions every 10 seconds and a bunch on activation are now gone.
The CORE ranger has now lost stability and condi clear in one “balance” patch. Please don’t say “Then play druid” or “Soulbeast is coming”. The fact remains that the ranger overall has consistently been nerfed.

Haha, look who’s talking about singing the same song. Dude, you’re a broken record. What about the druid? It’s top tier in two out of three game modes. You will obviously deny that, but that only makes you wrong.

And no, the soulbeast doesn’t look useless. Quite the opposite, apart from a couple of undertuned GM traits and skills.

Yes, less stability suck, but one would think that ranger players have learned to play with little access to stability by now (apparently some people think having two skills that needed to be precast was among the best.. whatever..). I accepted it years ago (same the reason why I never became comfortable with the pulsing stab we had on SotP with a 48 sec. cd). We’re not the only class with little access to stability on our core specializations. We got tons of stunbreaks and evades though.

All that being said, the new active portion of SotW is.. Well, I woudln’t say trash because aoe immobilize can always be handy, but the old version was fun. And better. Not only because of the stability, but because of all the other effects aswell. The damage buff was just as much of a reason for certain roaming builds to take it as the stability.

Dude, it removes 10 conditions. The active portion is buffed in any scenario where you aren’t with a couple of other party members and you’re all drowning in condis.

At that point you should be complaining about something else.

Core Ranger lost:

  • Signet of the Wild stability is gone.
  • Enlargement stability is gone.
  • Signet of Renewal passive condition removal is gone.
  • Empathic Bond condition removal is gone.

Some were replaced with other good things, but it’s clear they want to sell the expansion, which basically gives the Ranger back what it already had.

Is stability required/valued only in WvW and sPvP, vs. having it in PvE? I ask because I don’t think I ever used it in PvE.

Its essential in wvw otherwise you get ganked, locked down, and defeated.
PvP is more about damage mitigation but it certainly does help a lot there, it’s just there’s more fitting better options.

The PoF demo was the first time I played my ranger after the patch and I really noticed the lost of condi removal from the SoR. A few have mentioned that it was useless, but as a solo player it was my main source of condi removal.

In PoF the first time I am was ablaze I ignored it as I usually do, then I notice I am loosing health quickly, then I notice I am STILL ON FIRE! “Oh yeah, they took my condi removal away”, I remind myself as I bravely run away.

I tried a few of the other removal methods, but they feel really cumbersome to me.

Also, the health regeneration that they moved to the SoR seems less effective, at least to me, but that could be because I am STILL ON FIRE!

For the rest of the weekend I played the demo with my reaper. I think my main character has just changed.

I use LB/GS, weapons aren’t the issue. It’s the lack of decent condi removal.

Core ranger keeps getting gutted and you say I should complain about something else? This was actually a huge nerf. The ranger signets were altered to the point that only one is truly useful. Signet of Stone remains the only real useful one. Waiting for ANeT to nerf that one too. Can’t have ranger’s surviving a thief attack now can we?

I think the greater question would be what separates classes these days? I mean any class can be anything vs. those that originally appeared to be support (Druid/Guard(example)) oriented.

These days the game design and/or balance appear to be designed after a game of Pick Up Sticks To me anyway. You know, the more tangled or disarray the sticks are the more challenging the game is perceived to be.

If that is the case they should just follow the versions whereas isolated sticks (laying alone) are removed (e.g. remove traits, classes, etc). Too many classes have abilities that overlap and do it better.

What ever happened to playing a class that did one thing. If you want what the other class has then go create it. What else are we supposed to use all those bloody tombs and character slots for. This isn’t zootopia or utopia
