Hi Rangers, I recently encountered this ranger who went invis 3 times in a row on me in a very short duration and opened the gap on me many times even without seeming to have swapped his longbow for his alternate movement weapons.

Are there more than one ways for a ranger to go invis? how did this ranger go invis on me 3 times in a row in like 12 seconds?

Also he seemed to be able to weapon swap very quickly?

Can someone look at his skills and figure out his build? also what pet is he using? one seems like a spider but the other one I can’t tell what it is.

He might have traited for Hide in Plain Sight and caught a CC between the Hunter’s Shots. Was more entertained by the fight. Good job, btw.

Edit: His pets were Black Widow Spider and a Siamoth. Can’t tell too much from his build. I didn’t see him lose conditions when he used LR, so he didn’t take SotF.

He use the Siamoth : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forage_%28siamoth%29. So, Hunter’s Shot, Throw Feathers or Blind Tuft, Hunter’s Shot again.

The gap is cuz he use Sword/dagger and Lightning Reflexes. His build is pprobably closed to the meta power LB one, but without greatsword and Troll Unguent instead of Healing spring. He have no cleans, maybe EB.

Nothing Special on weapon swap CD.

Also is signet of the hunt a weak signet?

The ranger in the video was using it.
I have seen strong streamers using it too.

Is is a weak signet compared to the other utilities?

Personally I thought the signet of hunt suited this ranger’s build and playstyle. he was essentially a shoot and kite. and the signet of hunt movement speed would have helped him greatly in his kiting while in combat.

What are you ranger’s thoughts on the signet of hunt?

It’s invaluable if your build doesn’t have much swiftness up-time. Positioning is too important when properly playing LB and that speed boost has saved me more times than I can count versus classes with poor mobility.

That was a fun fight to watch. I think he would have won if instead of a Siamoth he had been using another CC pet.

And if he didnt missed his 2 knockbacks.

that ranger would of won , if he used his siamoth correctly apart from using it to forage he immobilsed you many times and never took advantage of it by stealthing close swapping pets triggering the pigs charge to KB instead of wasting a pbs.

pig charge + signet of the hunt and a pig thats stacked up easly crits 6k-8k on its own.

the spider was a waste he had enough KB’s and entangle / huntershot + the saimoth to keep gap would of been better off with a Snow owl to slow your skills recharges while giving himself swiftness , he could of used Signet of the hunt off every time its off cooldown.

his good certainly knows how to kite well using the stealth>leap back but he has a lot of timing issues to ween through , if that ranger keeps it up you’ll want to avoid him.

Dont even try to land a pig knockback… it is so bad atm… Anet might want to apply the #5 GS warrior skill pathing to it. But if you do land it, it is quite a fight changer haha.

it takes practice , its my personal Wvw and Pvp build ps its pathing is like Rush it charges up and redirects its charge as long as you immob your target in its front 90 degree arch if the target is too far out it won;t lock on so you need to be realy close or about 300 yards before you pet swap and immob 1second after the pet swap by then the pigs ready to charge its all about timing.

its a hard move to learn but its worth it in the end pigs not worth taking if you won’t or dont want to learn how to pig charge.

He should have won. IMO, LB ranger hard counters necro. I cannot remember a time I’ve ever lost to a necro 1v1, or even come close to losing. It’s just a horrible, horrible matchup for necro.

Roaming necros are completely suicidal since all they’re going to run into are classes they can’t beat or can’t catch, one or the other. Or both.

The siamoth has a 66% of giving you an invisibility item when using the F2

What are you ranger’s thoughts on the signet of hunt?

I use it for the passive. Never activate it. I’m sure there are moments where it would be better to activate it, like just before landing Maul, but I never do it. I don’t want to be slowed down for 30 seconds afterwards.

It increases the range of Swoop as well.

I don’t like the stats on the 25% movement speed runes, so I’ve given up the utility slot for it instead. I don’t think Rangers have any other options short of Nature’s Voice and wasting the utility slot on Guard. I rather have 25% constantly without being stuck casting a skill for 1 second every 10 seconds and wasting a Grandmaster trait on top of it.

I guess it’s an ease-of-mind sort of thing. The more straightforward and reliable, the better.

hmmm good points. it is highly possible he is using warrior runes! that is so rare and so odd. no wonder he seemed to be weapon swapping so quickly!
