really bad engineer

I have one issue with ranger. No, I don’t care about their low dps, they make up for that in other ways. No, I don’t care about sword “root” because if you understand the weapon and turn off autoattack it actually has huge potential. No, I don’t care about spirits being kitten, make up for it by not using spirits. But I am on the edge of changing class from my favourite class because of one simple issue: Pet skills on F2’s unresponsiveness. It’s infuriating. If I press the F2 skill while in combat, I would like the pet to stop what it is doing and howl. I don’t want them to leap first. I don’t want them to walk around in circles first. I want the dog, to howl. It’s that simple. And it’s often very important that in that moment the pet howls, as I’m often taking advantage of that howl to say, push people off a point or interrupt someone stomping a friend. Yet I’m reliant on pure luck that the pet won’t flip their kitten and harass a nearby butterfly instead of using the pet skill that I’m really banking on them running.
So I ask you, is there ANYTHING I can do to increase the chance that the Wolf will, when commanded, use it’s howl skill on the F2 button? Is there any way to make it interrupt the current attack (most commonly the pounce attack) in order to command a howl? I’ve tried everything. Mashing the button doesn’t work because it interrupts the last attempt. Pressing attack and using it seems to make them go to the enemy before using it. Pressing return to me before using it seems to not do anything either. Swapping into the wolf and using the pet skill seems to give a 50/50 chance of the pet giving a kitten that I’ve just told it to howl. Worst part is that F1 and F3 skills work whenever I need them to.
I’m ripping my hair out here guys. It’s extremely kittening frustrating.

The issue is that one cannot cast during many pets abilities due to them being channeled. There’s no way to cancel the pet animation. So we’re stuck with this, for now. In fact, part of this is intentional. They want to give the other team a chance to interrupt your pet’s attacks, basically. But not being able to cancel like you normally can migh be the deeper part of the problem. I know this has been discussed before but I’d like to hear some thoughts from newer players.
Take a look at the list of Ranger skills info we’ve compiled … need to get that stickied or the list it’s on stickied.
If you look there, you’ll see one of my entries that is a temporary solution to this problem with F2.
If you press F3 → F2 quickly, it will cancel your pets current action with F3 (very responsive) and then put F2 on the front of that pet’s now empty queue of actions.
