Why aren’t rangers able to wield rifles? Isn’t it logical for an ranger that roams the forest and hunts down deers for food, being able to use an rifle? Im satisfied with the current weapon selections, but isnt it just obvious that rangers could use the rifle if warriors can too, engineers of course. but why not rangers? I ask you, arenanet to get working on this if you may?:)

Because fantasy game rangers are not the same as Walker, Texas Ranger.

fantasy game rangers are inspired on Tolkien rangers
remeber aragorn? he was one same as Faramir and more (Aragorn was a ranger of the north and Faramir was a Ranger of Ithilien – merging those two and naming it “rangers” was insiration to D&D rangers and from there to all the rest fantasy games )

“-Shield is meant to be broken!”
“-and on this occasion I keep mine plate armors”

I’m all about keeping things lore based so I’m fine with rangers not having rifles. However, if we want to keep things lore based with pets as well, should the pets not be running a kitten a lot faster than they do?

I mean, some of these felines run almost quadruple what humans do. Wolves about triple, and some birds.. well, a lot more than quadruple the speed of humans. Point being, if were going to talk lore why not have pets speed reflect it?

If a pet is chasing down a target, why shouldn’t it at least run double the speed of what your character does? Or if we want to ignore lore.. then just give Rangers the rifle

it’d be neat to see rangers as being the only class to use a staff as a melee weapon

The idea of this just got me excited in multiple ways.

I’d say no to rifle UNLESS, it works more like an idea me and a friend came up with where you shoot magical seeds at the target.

IE: Entangling Shot: Fire a seed at the target that grows into roots that bind the enemy to the floor.

Brambles: Fire several seeds to an area causing the area to rapidly be covered with rambles causing bleeding and cripple to all enemies in the area.

Into the Forest: grow dense plant life in the area granting stealth, protection, an swiftness to all allies in field, your pets next attack causes vulnerability, bleeding, and weakness, leaving the field causes pets attack to only cause bleeding and removes stealth, protection, and swiftness.

Overgrowth Barrage: Pelt your enemy with a series of shots causing a different effect for each shot that hits 1-4 cause regen to allies and bleeding to the enemy 4-6 cause poison to enemies and swiftness to allies 7-8 cause 10 vuln (per shot) and vigor to allies

Seeding Shot: fires a seed at the target that deals damage and causes cripple, poison, or bleeding.

They sing dark, delicious notes about power and family.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna

Since we have ranged axes, why not melee rifles? Really though, I’d love to have melee staff as an option.

I could see rangers using rifles if, as Dojo said on the previous page, they worked differently from warrior and engineer rifles, and were significantly different from our existing ranged weapons.

Perhaps if the rifle were re-imagined as a high powered dart gun, quiet and relatively slow, with more control than our other ranged weapons. Rangers already have access to bleed, chill, cripple, poison, and vulnerability with our ranged weapons, and burning with offhand torch. We have basically no access to blind, confusion, immobilization, or weakness – some of which might be a good niche for a dart gun. Especially if it had good synergy with conditions, perhaps even boon conversion or conditional effects, like short term stealth upon hitting a blinded target.

Probably won’t happen, but interesting to think about!
