Why can't rangers use pistols and rifles?
If I had a rifle I would shoot my pet…

Rangers are a nature class, and gun clash with that.
Now, as much as I want rifles on my Ranger, that is something we must acknowledge.
Instead, I’d like to see Rangers get Hammers, so that we can bunny thump some dragons.

I think if we ever got a new weapon, it would be staff or MH dagger. Those two are really all that fit in with the “druid” lore atm.
It is not what you do, but how and why you do it that counts.

What about some sort of high primitive tech, weapon with a blunt edge for smashing objects, such as Clubs (Maces)?

Maces could work, I could see that being a heavy CC weapon, one that could dominate a lot of 1v1’s.

But Hammers fit with Guild Wars lore. It even acknowledged by the devs themselves!

Not to mention, a famous Ranger character in GW1 also uses a hammer during the Norn Fighting Tournament:

Considering there was an entire cross-campaign side-quest involving Zho after fighting her in the Norn Fighting Tournament, I’d think Hammers and bunny thumpers are pretty well established for Rangers in GW lore.
Seriously, ANET needs to consider giving us back Bunny Thumpers. They were a really well loved part of Rangers in GW1.

Fair point, but I think the ranger needs a support weapon. At the moment we can support our team quite easily, but really only through utilities. It’d be nice if say staff had some group boons, maybe a water field, and definitely some immob. That way we could get some utility, without having to use our utilities, giving us much more freedom.

You forgot Nente in AC Story Mode.

So called “master ranger” uses a hammer in melee.
GG Anet. Let’s give Hammers to Rangers!
+1 To staff Mh, Would finally give a full support option when running spirits and “Nature” magic on the staff.
Why not use a hammer with “nature” magic associated with it? Imagine being able to conjure vines when swamming the ground.
Rangers are able to use Rifles! See ::::::
(okay, I know its just a Frost Gun, but I think I answered the question!)
I dunno about this whole rifles and druidic/nature stuff. I mean, there’s little about class lore in the game, apart from few lines on character creation screen. In fact, I play my ranger as an “adventurer” who have found cub when he was exploring caves, rather than “forest sentinel”.
Fact is, variety = good.
I want a third mainhand option. Mace would be okay.
Staff would be great yes. But ranger is no caster class.
And staffs are more aoe weapons and anet is against an aoe able ranger. What would be nice would be staffs as close combat weapon for us a la bojutsu or chains as 1H or 2H weapons
Third weapon is my idea!
I keep reaching around for my hidden weapon but I can’t get anet to let me do it yet.
Yet.

Variety is always good, and every class uses every weapon differently anyways, so you know that the Ranger’s style of rifle is going to be unique compared to the other professions. Though seriously, we need another melee weapon(mace/Hammer/etc.) or at the very least a support weapon(staff?) before we get another ranged weapon.
No, no guns/rifles… Rangers are not Soldiers….
I’d much rather have a staff!!!

I don’t really get that. Why guns are only dedicated for soldiers? Hunters use guns too. Besides, ranger can | use greatsword/sword, and those are obviously military weapons.
And I don’t really know why people think that bow is “natural” weapon. Natural weapon is a club or staff. Bows are artificial, just less advanced than a gun.

The reason a bow is “natural” is because you can easily make ammunition for it in nature, and it’s pretty simple to make a makeshift bow using only items you find in the wild (compared to a real bow it won’t stand a chance granted, but it’s useful nonetheless).
Also, spears would also be considered natural weapons.

For real! ALL THREE ‘adventurer’ professions running around in the same medium armor and dual-wielding pistols would seem totally creative and inspired from a development point-of-view. O.o In terms of skills, what would dual pistols or rifles add that short bow or longbow can’t/don’t do already?
