As you all know, our beloved pet dies in a nano second even thinking about AoE; why most pet-loving rangers keep the pet on “easy!” (passive mode) in dungeons and fractals.

So the only viable use of the pet on passive mode is its F2 skills. What I REALLY KITTEN hate is that every time you want to use F2, the clueless pet runs to the target and attacks!

Could someone PLEASE make the pet stand at its place and cast F2 without running around? That’s not too much asking, is it?

Why would I want the pet’s “mighty roar” so far away from my self (and rest of the group) that nobody gets the boon?

Why does my pet run away from ME when I desperately need the “regeneration”?

If you read the skill description it says that your pet will use the active target? Drop target and try casting, no?
(not sure, to be honest, never actually use a pet skill by purpose without a target)

There still lies in a few issues I have noticed and would really want fixed. First, when no target is selected (unsure if pet is on passive or not), hitting F2 can still cause the pet to go after some random nearby target before casting and sometimes forget to cast and just begin auto attacking anyway. Second, sometimes you hit F2 and the pet cancels itself by moving. So, you have to keep hitting it at intervals so that you don’t accidentally cancel it when it is actually working but make sure it does go off because if you cancel it by hitting F2 twice quickly, you put the F2 on a 3-5s cooldown.

These two things are the biggest issue I currently have with pets. Sure, some PvE damage mitigation should be added, but I would like to see properly functioning pets first.

Edit: A common use for no target F2 casting would be moas in combat and canines when fleeing. Casting the wolf fear without a target usually causes it to stop and fear any approaching enemies the other direction, which is great for escaping.

Do you have autoattack on? Maybe that is why the pet is running to a random mob to execute F2?

The pet has to run to your target to execute the command because most of the pet abilities are cast directly on the target itself, so you can’t do away with that mechanism. All they really need to do is make the abilities instacast (or instacast at target), I wouldn’t mind my moa running off if he buffed me first and then ran into the fray.

In the options there is an option (on by default) to select a target on attack if no target is selected. That is why your pet is attacking a target on F2 even if you have none selected.

It doesn’t matter anyway, just hit F3 after your pet has used his skill. The pets waste a lot of time in useless animation frames anyway, as soon as I get the buff I hit F1 or F3 depending on what I want the pet to do and cancel the rest of the wasted skill animation.

Using utility pets and giving them their own targets is really the way to go. Turrets and such are perfect, or have them kill summoned mobs while you focus on the boss.

I really don’t like that the pet runs away to the target just to cast F2 when it is on “passive mode”. If the pet was on “attack mode” then it is ok the pet first runs to the target.

In pve it doesn’t matter. But in dungeons / fractals I want to get my buffs where I (and rest of the group) stand. When my pet runs away he will get killed (AoE) and I / we don’t get the buff. So pressing F3 after pets casts F2 means he is likely dead! Waste of time and pet!

There should be a new F-button: “stay and don’t you dare move!”
