…or is it the new patch?

recently i rearranged my traits and left none in beastmastery. One day after, the patch happened and I didn’t get a chance to try the new setup until today. Now, I noticed that my pet no longer holds aggro on regular mobs. Even worse, I noticed that as soon as I hit F1 and my pet gets near the target, the mob comes right at me even if I’m not attacking him at all. I generally use a bear and I didn’t use to have this problem before. Usually, he lost aggro halfway through the fight… not in the first second.

Obviously, this is very annoying. Now I have to do a ballet dance with every mob I encounter, and this means 0 damage from my pet since everything is on the move.
What am I doing wrong? What changed the aggro? I’m using a LB/SB as a setup.

Lots of things effect weather you or the pet gets aggro.
But straight to your question the more points in BM the stronger your pet and that can effect aggro. Also other traits like 30% bigger crits could have an effect. DPS is not the sole sorce of aggro in this game, but it is one of the sources. Others things such as first hit, closest physically etc all play a part as well as the mob type.

I have 30 points in Beastmastery. My pets still don’t always tank. I think a key is Risen have never allowed the pet to tank against them, and at level 80, that’s all I fight anymore.

That said, even with 30 in BM, against anything else besides Risen mobs, a key to having the pet tank is to make sure the pet attacks first. Also make sure the pet is doing damage.
