Yeah I can imagine lol, but you run a condi build much like mine, have you given up on the power ranger + high toughness build? I am in a mission to discover if the good old trusty trapper or condi/BM build is truly the best choices for us in WvW, after running it for months and tweaking it here and there, you can only guess… when is this going to get outdated? Don’t even make me talk about spirits.

I actually run quite a silly little build with my goal being of buffin them birds to 25 might as an apothecary BM .
axe+torch , sword+horn , 4 altruism runes , 2 water runes , 0 0 30 30 10 traits with standard in wilderness and full spirit traits in NM and mighty swap in BM . Sigils of battle . HSpring , stone spirit , SotW and Spirit elite . 3rd utility is usually poison trap(for warrior hammehroids) or sick em (for thieves and mesmers).
It works quite well and is very good for small groups too .
Choko. If you run 0/10/0/30/30 things get more interesting with birds.
slap on the trait that gives 30% more crit damage to pets, 25 might, birds, fully charged Masters Bond, RAO. Zephyrs Speed along with Quickening Zephyr…. 9 seconds of crazy bird.
Just pray that there aint no AOE’s around your pet

I use a condi based ranger and I am pretty successful with it, but the more balance update the game ends, the more outdated it feels. Even for trapper builds, I wonder what rangers roaming with high toughness + power builds have to say.
I normally run a BM condition too and usually have don’t have too much problems, As for power, I started experimenting with a chill/immob build with PTV armor and mixed trinkets of knights/soldiers with Opal jewels. I like it a lot and have since used it for roaming. My initial problem was i’m just so used to getting that passive regen from BM/condition that it makes the build seem weak, but on the contrary, it’s quite effective against most classes. Most notably, the amount of evades is still there with right weapon sets, TU is still 895/sec and most 1v1s usually end bad for most people since they don’t quite understand how chill works.
I did notice that using LB against a thief works better than SB for some reason, maybe it’s the amount of burst from LB#2, not sure, but whatever it is, most thieves don’t like it. Of course you have the exceptional zerker thieves that can 2 shot you for 80% of your health on 3k armor and be in trouble real quick, but hardly anyone runs a full zerker solo roaming thief now-a-days unless they purposely sit and wait for you at your spawn to catch an unsuspecting LB ranger

I find that Retaliation is only a problem if you’re not paying attention. Barrage can be self interrupted by moving so retaliation does little if any damage to a ranger who is aware of retaliation. Zergs bust through other zergs all the time, stealth and re-position. Doesn’t take long to figure out that playing backliner depends on positioning. Even without Barrage, piercing arrows will be nice damage from range.
Besides mesmer and P/D thief, I’m not sure there are many classes that outdo a solo roaming ranger. Yeah, we’ve been nerfed to hell, but despite that, rangers are still kicking and screaming.

I feel like rangers haven’t been balanced enough to keep up with the rest of the games power creep being experienced by other classes, and that we’re all starting to get a little jaded with how slowly balance updates roll out, and how little they affect the described issue.
Still love my BM build myself though haha.

i roam with full zerker equipment + 4x kavalier tinkets and there is nothing that can stop me while roaming. i have 3 sources of healing ( sigil, reg and omnom ghost ) + perma protection, fury, might, swiftness, regeneration, vigour and 35sec of stability. chill on weapon switch. evade on weapon skills. the survivability is great in small scare havoc group roaming and hits up to 6k with maul are possible.

“Well, recently I’ve been wondering what is the best number of each class to run when running 20-25 man skill groups.
I think it mainly depends on your goal, but say it was busting big blobs, what would be a good ratio of classes to run to both stay alive and do a lot of damage. I usually run about 5-6 warriors, 4-5 guardians, 1-2 eles, 2 engineers, 1 necro, 2-3 mesmers and one ranger/thief.
Anyway, just thought i’d get some other peoples opinions on it. If you’re experienced with havoc groups, post your thoughts!

A group of Rangers can’t be stopped – problem is, we don’t group together and use our skills effectively in a zerg or havoc group.
Many will run from a group of three or more Rangers – problem is most commanders don’t use us well.
One thing. Check your commanders the next time you are in WvW… more and more of THEM are Rangers.
Id like to see a zerg of rangers.

I just want to see more rangers, period… At Desolation, in WvW, its about 6 players that run ranger and are NOT running some cheesy PvE rallybot build

I see them all the time on BG when not playing during NA primetime.
They are almost all pugs running around with longbows so I can’t say they aren’t rally bait bear/bow’s but they are there. I even see a few in the backbone primetime guilds but they tend to play a bit smarter.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I run a 15/0/30/0/25 build, full apothecary with hybrid apothecary accessories for extra vitality. I like to use SB/GS or sword-dagger/axe-torch or sword-torch/SB… depending on the situation, so pretty much a very beefy BM build with high condition damage and strong focus on pet might for that sweet pet damage. I like to force my enemies to feel the burn of my fire-damage rotations, just to keep people on the edge. I like sigils of battle and of the undead. Always keep a fire trap on me, SoTW, a stun breaker and elites I swap on the go.
I have been meaning to look into spirits, but I will experiment with all the builds you guys gave me, thanks for that. Regarding ranger pugs in WvW, if you see one just teach them how you do it, you will find more often than not that they need help with their builds.
