Great! Thanks for the update, Roy.
Your team has nailed it yet again.
Roy for president! I hope guardian sword will see similiar love tho. One question..Do you have any plans to change the animatins on sword auto? You know..the first hit at least as starting with stab feels out of place.

No plans right now.

Not yet!
Ah well.. Putting stab on last hit would be enough, but i dont mind stealing mes sword animations. Either way ty for answer!

Will the ranged damage still be there, even if it’ll no longer count as a “projectile”, or will it be completely removed?

I liked this yo-yo animation
If this part changes and the whole projectile gets removed (including the red animation particle) can we at least get this animation swapped out for something that makes a little more sense, instead of bonking your enemy on the head.
Excellent change, thanks for listening to the feedback. Any thoughts on sword 2? It’s received a lot of discussion as well.
I’ve gotten lots of feedback, increasingly so with time, about this part of the sword auto-attack chain. I’ll be changing this skill so that it will no longer use a projectile attack and instead it will become a normal melee attack which applies vulnerability.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!
GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
Please keep it cool I personally like it the way it is. Gives that extra reach from foes who try to hual a… when they know they are about to lose. Maybe something like gs #1 on mesmer

Thank you so much Roy this was driving me more crazy then trying to throw my torch on guardian in SW.
Things were tried, they don’t always pan out, and you were willing to make a necessary change to keep things functional instead of leaving them broken. Thanks Roy!

Aww, I know it had it’s problems, but I did enjoy the skill. It was nice as a double hit. Would its removal now be consider a nerfing despite the Vulnerability application?
Also, please add my request in with the others that are asking for an animation change to the initial stab in the chain (skill 1). Thanks!
So much love being thrown your way right now, Roy. Thanks for listening.
Guardian sword, tho. Pretty please?
it will become a normal melee attack which applies vulnerability.
2 stacks of Vulnerability I hope!

Yup 2 stacks for 6 seconds.

Aa another person mentioned I didn’t think about.
Did the blade actually do damage on the way back? So does this mean we will have a dps loss?

Throw in removes one boon for good measure

It did, I’m sure that Roy will adjust damage so it’ll be the exact same dps.
Perfect this was one of main worries about sword, now I have nothing holding my back from using it! Thanks!
(crossing fingers that Vengeful Hammers will get a fix with them getting destroyed with walls/ground etc, then my revenant life will be complete!)

Yup 2 stacks for 6 seconds.
Any possibility of self-booning instead?
The vulnerability ecology is badly over-saturated already. Plenty of existing professions with vulnerability that don’t need the new kid crowding the already very limited 25 stack limit.
…and the boon striping/stealing/corrupting classes can always stand to have more opportunities to show off their mechanics.
Especially in raids. Hint-Hint.
Hint.
No seriously, more boons on raid bosses.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

So… about the animation. Is it the same or has it been changed to the standard “swing-swing-thrust” animation chain? I ask because I really prefer that series of animations to the “swing-thrust-downward swing” animation that was present in the BWEs.

The attack, while working, was amazing and used to hit many targets. I hope it doesn’t end up to be a nerf
To clarify, is the animation and functionality going to stay the same but will it simply be unreflectable? Or is the entire attack changing to a melee attack?

It’s going to be a melee attack with no projectile.
But there will be no changes to animation… Yet.
@Roy
How about changing Brutal Blade to 360 attack? Keep maximum nr of targets as it is as well as dmg and vuln but make it 360. Small flavourful change keeping all stats the same just sometimes striking on sides/behind with preference for front.

It’s also a nerf, yes.
But with this nerf, it creates new opportunities to buff the weapon elsewhere. Especially, to buff Precision Strike.
@Roy, add Rift Slash’s delayed damage to precision strike as well. Now that you took away some ranged power from the weapon for the sake of a QoL change, you may as well as add it to sword #2, so that revenants can still aoe bomb during farms. Precision Strike chill is cool in some scenarios (especially in pvp), but generally underwhelming and forgottable elsewhere. By adding a delayed damage to precision strike’kittens, much like what rift slash already offers, you’re adding some uniqueness back to the weapon, some aoe/ ranged power back to the weapon AND making the second skill more relevant across all areas in the game. Besides, it would make the weapon more cohesive by having two delayed rift bombs instead of just one. That’s my suggestion.
I’m really quite fond of the stab animation being the first sword auto – it feels different and unique to the Revenant – I wouldn’t want it changed myself.

Yeah plus the name “Preparation Thrust” lets me make some innuendos in chat ;D
it will become a normal melee attack which applies vulnerability.

Yup 2 stacks for 6 seconds.
Will the damage of this single strike be increased to make up for the loss of damage from the returning projectile?
Or a neat way to keep the functionality would be to reduce the damage of the projectiles on Precision Strike but have them instead pierce and return, to maintain the damage if both hits connect?

One more nail in my gaurds coffin……
If it’s no longer a projectile how can it possible justify a 450 range?
Surely it’s down to 130 now…?

depends on the angle, it may be a linear attack like a shorter range version of a mesmer’s Spatial Surge (as opposed to a cleaving slash)

As a side discussion I have to say this is what surprised me most about HOT. I expected them to be giving a few specializations (at least 3) boon strip capabilities with HOT and make boon strip a far more common thing for people to help address Elementalists (and other boon heavy professions) in PvP and add a new layer of difficulty for PvE as well by giving boons to mobs.

It wont have 450 range anymore? Now it will be single 130 range melee atk like others. Thats how it should be since beginning.

i would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE if we had on the sword 1 the same effect as the ranger has on the sword, wen the 2nd hit on the auto attack they leap abit and its a gap closer i think it could be perfect

Please, for the love of god, no.
I don’t think anyone is even remotely as excited or involved with the class as I am, but I would instantly give up on the entire class if we get some variation of the horrible Ranger sword autoattacks.

I agree with you please no, the only thing from the ranger base class if anything would be an evade on attack. That is all!
just give it a normal attack, that’s all what’s needed.
I welcome the change, but I’m curious to how this will affect survivability through life steal through the devastation tree. The return dagger was a guaranteed proc of the grandmaster from the front.
Did people really have an issue with this? I actually really liked it, as it really threw people off. Slow build up in a way, but as a result of the ‘return’ you could deal some pretty decent spike damage, especially if you had Impossible Odds up. Plus as another mentioned, a guaranteed proc of the GM health return trait. I’m actually sad to see it go.
Yeah this impacts the benefit of the GM trait a little. Also, with the attack hitting twice, didn’t that mean the 2nd AA actually ended up applying 4 stacks of vulnerability? 2 out and 2 back?
Please, if nothing else, make it look cool.
actually this is a little concerning cause that was one of the main ways to use the life siphon GM trait and that means we would be losing out on DPS with the loss of 2 stacks of vuln. Since without herald we have no might, would be a huge blow. As is we dont compare damage to a reaper in what we bring but thats different ( reaper does alot of damage -
)
You can trigger life siphon trait just by flanking.
Playing Smite since mid s2, f broken gw2.
Right but if you were having trouble flanking this was at least a little source of it, sometimes flanking isnt possible. Mostly im just curious about the loss of 2 vulnerability stack.
