There is an lack of an ability to be swift outside of combat.

No other class has this flaw. Even an engineer or Ele can create constant persistent swiftness when trait-ed right.

Inspiring Reinforcement plus Phase Smash or Drop The Hammer equals Area Swiftness.
I’ve managed to stack up to a minute and thirty seconds of swiftness chaining those skills.

Have you tried to use lighting field from Inspiring Enforcement ? You need to use Legendary Dwarf Stance and blast it with Echoing_Eruption .

I tried it out of combat and it worked. That way you will at least have 10 s with swiftness. That is if you would use mace+axe for weapon. Tanerus suggestion use two handed Hammer which have two ways to for blasting fields.

I agree with OP. Having to use a combination makes you waste a lot of time for just 5 seconds of swiftness. Plus you are forced to use dwarf (well, not a problem now, but it could be later).

The main problem however is that is very easy to hit monsters while doing that, since all of them are large aoes, slowing you down more, even if you have swiftness on.

not at all…. you don’t even need to slow down…. as someone said before use Jalis #7, and blast it with Mace 3 as you are running through.

Its actually really nice since you can have permanent area of effect swiftness…. not to mention it looks really cool when you do it.

Great for WvW…. better than staff 3 on guardian that’s for sure.

Just make sure that you have the camera angled straight ahead and are not looking down at the ground as this effects how far leap/movement skills (like heart seeker) make the player travel.

Thank you, you just validated my argument. It’s not intuitive.

this is just how movement skills work…. the blast still works just fine if you have the camera at a goofy angle, you just slow down a tiny bit.

Thieves using heartseeker in black powder for example intentionally angle the camera downwards to not go very far.

I’m saying to make sure you aren’t doing this.

If you dont know this by know you are wet behind the ears.

I think that the Make a Road + Blast the Road combo is great and is all the swiftness this class needs!

I would be surprised if the DPS trait line doesn’t include something for high swiftness or even perma 25%… or maybe one of the utilities.

if there isn’t some sort of way to intuitively get swiftness outside of mace-dwarf combo rev will be severely pidgin-holed in the pvp game mode. this seems obvious to me as a pve player.

Not necessarily, if it’s done right. But in this case, yes, absolutely. Blasting Inspiring Reinforcement with either Phase Smash or Drop The Hammer is clunky as all get-out because those skills have 1.25 and 1.75 second cast times. So you put down the road, then stand still and wait for the cast to go off. Very nice, especially when you want to do this while on the move. Mace #3 Echoing Eruption isn’t quite as bad with its 0.75 second cast time, but it’s still clunky.

And this all ignores the fact that you outrun Inspiring Reinforcement when casting it on the move, anyway, and what use is perma-swiftness if you have to stop and wait in order to keep it up? Swiftness is about moving quickly. Standing around and waiting is kinda, sorta the opposite of that…

Let’s not forget it’s area swiftness for the entire group. Making it “too good” means that no one in the pack that travels with you has to bring their own swiftness.

I personally had no problem stacking up to a minute of swiftness in 10 seconds. It feels VERY similar to guardian staff #3 which gives a short burst of swiftness per pulse and you have to stand in it for a bit to get the full duration. It’s actually a bit more efficient than guardian staff for stacking aoe swiftness at the moment.

Staff 3 on guardian is mainly for stacking swiftness whilst stationary, and it stack huge amounts in an instant cast aoe.

The guardian utility swiftness actually comes from ‘Retreat’ and gives every1 20 secs swiftness and aegis.
Revenant utility swiftness comes from comboing ‘road’ with a weapon ability to get the aoe swiftness out, and when it’s out it only lasts 5 secs

Then guardians have enough self swiftness to stack to 59 secs easily, plus greatsword dash and sword teleport if a mob, critter or enemy are in the distance. Revenants meanwhile have a self crippling jump, and a pretend jump that roots you in place, or a pretend dash where you glide forward with a staff that is actually a support-only weapon.

Guardian beats Revenant hands down

What did you do to stack swiftness on Revenant? I can’t get above 15 secs because the road timer disappears by the time I have used 2 hammers which require me to be stationary and wait for the road cast time. If I use mace instead, the ability is off cooldown only 1 sec before my swiftness ends, so provided I am vigilant I can just about stack swiftness for 1 more second every 5 seconds, i.e. 59 seconds of swiftness would take me 4 minutes to stack.

Boon duration rune (any works, but I personally use rune of the pack since it also gives fury + might) then use Inspiring Reinfircement + hammer #3 on top of your self and start running while hammer #5 casts. Your “downtime” is only the very brief “cast” of hammer #3 at your feet (it goes way faster since it doesn’t have to travel) and you can cast Inspiring Reinforcement + Hammer #5 while moving. Hammer #5 + IR gives you swiftness even if you outrun it .

See screenshot for ~ 1 minute of swiftness.

Edit: Meant hammer #3, not 2.

Are you forgetting that you are forced to have a staff equipped for this? lol

Staff guardian is pretty much just a loot stick when it comes to its grade in the dps department.
btw… retreat is a 40sec cooldown. (unless traited then its 32 seconds)
Retreat is a great skill…. and I always have it on my guardian

and… have fun standing still to stack quickness.
(blasting the road can be done while standing still also)

Also the “5 seconds” of swiftness with the road mace combo is actually 10… and its 100% maintainable and the field grants 5 seconds of stability.

Assuming for a second you are the only one applying swiftness.
(and you have Pure of Voice and honorable staff traited)
With staff 3 + retreat you barely wrap the swiftness.
(unless ofc you have a platinum and gold doubloons in your staff for increased boon duration)

Bottom line is…. even if you do manage to wrap your swiftness on guard…. swiftness is swiftness…. and 100% uptime + 50% stability uptime > loot stick zerging.

Arguably you can say that the symbol guardians drop can apply more swiftness to more people….. but retreat doesn’t do that, it has the same limitation the revenant does with swiftness application…. and the only the guardian + a small handful of others will have wrapped swiftness. Which is the same with revenant…. 100% swiftness for a handful of players.

Also frigid blitz is a shadowstep…. so idk what you are on about with the other comparisons.

this class will be unplayable in wvw or pvp if we don’t get speed. Hammer drop is way to slow had a ranger run in and out of it twice before it landed and missed him and he was worrying about a thief chasing him. Having all direction orientated attacks is not going to work especially when fighting the coward class… that hammer circling swirl should knock them out of the way or come up faster so you have a chance. Some of the area effects should radiate out making it a little harder to dodge them. Staff was fun but did no damage and the circle healing things took way to long to drop to be of any use at all… and that being our only speed boon is rather sad. I can see dying over and over again to thieves maybe make them drop first swat and then get bigger as you do the second and third hit or a stun first hit. Having only one weapon that does range and not able to swap out to long range is rather silly. Maybe demon could change the weapons to range??? I really want to like this class range hammer was a great idea… just needs more work please.

Found mostly that I was cannon fodder for most classes.
