Impressively PoF has managed to deliver a revenant spec I like even less than Herald.

Thematically it’s great. The bow stuff looks ok. What’s the problem then?

One.

That’s how many abilities Renegade get which use energy and doesn’t have a cooldown.

So disappointing. This was supposed to be – and sold to us as – the profession you’ll love if you prefer energy to cooldowns. Ironically the good news for me in PoF is in the elementalist elite spec with its drastically reduced attunement cooldowns.

Please, ANet, if you’re serious about this profession, stop doing this.

I hate when people direct people away from a class because they dislike a way it’s being balanced… but…

You should probably go play thief… because it’s exactly what you want from the sounds of it. None of their weapon skills have cooldowns, just resource costs. You’re out of luck when it comes to utilities though… oddly enough, revenant still has the market cornered on CD-less utility skills, like Impossible Odds, Hammers, Demon Form, and the new Kalla elite.

I don’t recall revenant ever being sold on the idea of being only limited by energy though… If anything, it was sold on a throw-back mechanic from GW1, right down to the name of the resource and its pips. From the very start it’s skills had CDs, save for a few upkeep skills (and shiro skills) that were limited by energy upkeep costs, so CDs weren’t necessary for them.

Also, the change to elementalist elements is a double edged sword for them. On one hand, they can get to the previous element faster… on the other, it’s a 3 second CD that affects all of their elements at once, no matter what element they’re switching from, not to mention, it takes 2 switches to fully change to a pure element or completely move off of a particular element.

People need to stop preaching doom and gloom before we even beta test. There is a high chance some energy costs will be reduced, skills may be reworked. Maybe kalla GM trait will help with energy recovery somehow…

From what WP was saying in his Q&A, it sounds like the streamers weren’t really sure what the context of their footage would be, and they kind of expected that all the information would be out through other channels anyway.

Uhhh no that’s the Thief.

Revenant was always sold as the throwback profession for GW1 players that preferred skills with energy AND cooldowns like GW1.

The irony of revenant lies in the fact that your utility skills are all bound and you cannot mix them around, you can’t even move them on your bar without also moving the other legend’s skills for some reason.

It’s funny because the profession made for GW1 players allows you the least choice of skill swapping which was exactly what made GW1 great to begin with. Epic Fail.

I just hate that the one biggest hole in Rev is a lack of ways to deal with conditions, and everyone was really hoping renegade would bring something to that front.

But unstead of any sort of cleanse, we get a healing aura that reduces condition damage by 33% in a small area that any condi player can just easily bomb. Which is a laughable answer. Flat damage reduction does not work vs condis, as it’s not indefinite, so while it might reduce damage for those 5 seconds, at the end of it, you now have even MORE condis on you to deal with. Compare that to a cleanse on the same cooldown, which would effectively give you loads more damage reduction since using it resets all the stacks to zero.

It seems like the balance team STILL wants revs to just absorb conditions and tank them indefinitely, which was an original beta concept for Mallyx. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work on so many levels. Especially now with Renegade replacing Glint you won’t even have Glint’s boon spam to cover your resistance to hope that boon corrupt’s RNG saves you.

Balance has absolutely to do with this. I don’t like any of GW2s profs enough to PvP so balance is the least of my worries.

The issue is core design.

Both of revenant’s elite specs fundamentally undermine one of the main reasons to play the prof.

Uhhh no that’s Thief plus Revenant.

Thief is a single profession in one armour class with a specific theme. It’s not to everyone’s tastes, eg. mine.

Revenant’s theme on the other hand, is more to my tastes. Though in other games I’m much more incline to play ranged casters so it’s better but not a perfect match.
