So here is the story. Other day I was in a PvP match. I’m usually very strong against revenants. Less so since the patch made healer Rev more viable (i.e. People started playing more survivable stuff).

Anyways, this revenant destroyed my team. He was at that time ranked 14 on the leaderboard. He was recently ranked as high as 3rd. Now, obviously there is some skill involved here beyond your average player. Rarnarkk as I recall.

My hope is to learn a little about the class from people who run Rev at higher levels. I’ve rarely fought revenants at a high enough level to care to learn how they tick…but this fight convinced me to give it a go.

Many thanks in advance.

Revenants is a very hard class to master.

Many people are using the class wrong, it’s more using the correct skill in good timing then run in and button bash until it’s dead (if you know what I mean).

Rev still could do with some improvements in some areas but it is not useless.

I am loving the class at the moment.

What makes the rev hard to master?

It is energy management? I’m still learning about energy and how it works, exactly.

Conversely, what about rev makes it strong? As in, what advantages does/can revenant have going into certain matchups?

Rev doesn’t have anything unique that the other class can’t offer.

Just more skill is required in some cases.

It is important to be energy efficient and not button bash all available skills, only use skills if nesscory and not waste energy. Examples

Using shiro’s quickness to get to a capture point, you will have a hard time if a someone appears while you have no energy.

I only use Dragon elite only if ethier at team battle, enemy downed or teammate is downed etc, wouldn’t use on one person running towards me/point as they will just probably dodge it which will be a waste and could give me a harder time without energy.

Rar sometimes streams on Twitch, sadly more Warrior than Rev because Warrior is far more idiot-team-proof

If you do not want to spend like 400-600 ranked games learning how to play revenant, do not even try it. It is not like playing other classes, because this class has unique role on battlefield and also totally unique game style to be efficient. And also you do not have any good matchup 1v1, you have to be one step ahead all the time to have chance to kill someone 1v1, because your best defense ability is dodging.

In my opinion, the difficulty in playing Revenant is due to a fundamental difference in resources compared to other classes. Revenant has a resource (energy) which is shared by all skills – offensive and defensive skills, CC and burst, etc.

As cooldowns on most professions have been getting shorter and shorter over time, many classes can favorably adopt a ‘spammy’ playstyle in which skills can be used on cooldown with relatively little consequence. They may be able to ‘spam’ offensive skills while saving defensive skills for an emergency.

While Revenant weapon skills have similar cooldowns and relatively low energy costs, utility skills (with the exception of Glint) cost more energy. Players accustomed to other classes must learn not to ‘spam’ Revenant utility skills, or they will risk running out of energy and becoming vulnerable. A Revenant who uses energy aggressively for offense will have none left for defense.
