Hi guys I got this game around 4 days ago and I’m loving it

So far I have a level 21 Warrior and to me one of the best features of this game is that classes are based on their weapons for their skills. I say this because I am on my level 21 Warrior currently using a Longbow and dual wielding Axes and it is the best feeling.

I feel like a true adventurer and I’m just as proficient with my bow then I am with my axes and I don’t have to have a silly beast to use ranged weapons!

But this leads me to my question!

I’d like to be a Ranged class that doesn’t use a pet. WoW has ruined it for me and I’m sure Rangers are great fun but I just can’t do it. I would like to be a thief and I know they can use ranged weapons and I was wondering if it’s viable to simply use nothing but ranged weapons on them and not be a liability to myself or people I group with?

Stick to your warrior!

Short bow is very viable on a thief, especially versus multiple foes. If you combine that with a Pistol/Dagger condition damage build, you have some nice synergies with the poison field and cluster bomb bleeds from the short bow. P/P is a bit lackluster because your 3 attack scales better with power, while the auto attack needs condition damage to get in some dps… But if you’re okay with running 1 melee attack (dagger 5), go for P/D and don’t look back

You know I ended up going Ranger. It’s actually a lot more fun than WoW’s Hunter class ever was and the idea of being a Norn Ranger with a Bear Pet and having the Bear Spirit as my patron spirit is really really awesome:)

You will not feel powerful(at all) with a shortbow thief until you are 80 with exotics. Stick with the warrior for what you are describing!

Thief’s ranged weaponry isn’t all that ranged, shortbow performs best in melee range and dual pistols, the only set used at any range, has a very short range.

You can use a shortbow as a thief and it’s a strong weapon choice. As far as using it fully and no melee I’m not too sure. If you want to go pure ranged Dual Pistols will probably be a better choice for the dps. Shortbow is generally more of a utility weapon then a primary weapon

It’s possible to be all ranged but you would lose a lot of survivability without weapon based stealth.

Most that like ranged do a combo of melee + ranged.

I fought a short bow + dagger/dagger thief in spvp earlier this morning. I am Dagger/Dagger + Sword/Dagger.

He was condition damage and I am more berserker. It took me about 2minutes, but I finally killed him in 1v1. He played well.

EDIT: My advice is to stay on the warrior then. They are great at ranged when they get to wvw with rifle and kill shot. The longbow is amazing for aoe damage.
