Can we *please* not call it "Daredevil"?
Daredevil means someone without fear so the name will never work on Thief’s spec because we always die falling from cliffs due to fear.
If ArenaNet keeps the name, then we should be immune from fear — which will never happen because ArenaNet gets a kick seeing us fall from cliffs like lemmings.
you’ll still be feared off cliffs
but instead of screaming to your death
you’ll go head first.
straight into the afterlifeNo, not anymore. Soon we’ll have staff to spin as we fall; allowing us to turn into a helicopter.
Or the staff turns into a glider…
proof, we are now aang from avatar. the show, not the kitten movie.
I know what the new elite spec should be called!!!!
Acrobat!!!I mean, some do use staffs in their performances…
Like those who balance on a wire and plummet to their death…
Ah…. that’s why they’re DareDevils, daring enough to do that.
*Dare Devils.
It’s only one word.

You can always misspell it using “Deer-DeVille”
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

I haven’t had those for a while…

just call it dragon killer lol
They are literally the squishiest class in the game(Excluding eles who can cast regen and protection and stuff). Every second they are out of stealth is a second they are risking death.
THE NAME IS PERFECT
just call it dragon killer lol
You’re not far off — although, rather Dragon Slayer.
There’s actually two ways to slay a dragon: Pierce its heart with a spear, or stab it behind their head with a dagger.

I know it’s probably a joke but not so sure the entire aspect of the name/word has a copyright to it. It’s too generic.
Just another guy thinking “daredevil” would be kind of a silly choice for a name. Gambler or vagabond got much nicer rings to them. If we must make it a marvel knockoff, I prefer Gambit.
Or perhaps we’ll get some sort of shadow magic with it. Maybe a bit of voodoo and soul stealing. Better be good, or the shadowman gonna get you.
Those actually sound worse imo.
Daredevil is an actual word beyond the hero name~ “a reckless person who enjoys doing dangerous things.” Pretty much what we already are since we can instadie at any moment when leaping into the middle of a battle.
Yes, it is a word other than a hero name. Unfortunately it usually goes along with either some sort of stunt man or a really poor attempt at creating a fantasy class for an rpg. There are thieves that use flashiness along side of acrobatics to do their job. However, the limelight sought by the typical self proclaimed “dare devil” is not exactly something that shouts out “thief!” (Or maybe it does… hence the problem.)
Anyhow, the marvel super hero is by far the most flattering comparison. Blind guy fighting in the dark and pretending to be a gargoyle? He’s cool enough to forgive his fashion sense. Now if only he weren’t a “hero.” Might actually be something for a thief to aspire to.
Just call it Acrobat like the old D&D cartoon, or better yet scrap the whole thing and go back to sniper .. Tybalt’s rifle calls to me

Just want check… are you seriously proposing to name an Espec “Acrobat” that doesn’t have to take the “Acrobatics” specialty?
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Lol I was proposing scrap the staff idea and give thief rifle.
I think, the best rename for this class under Anets current designed skills, traits ect. is the SKIRMISHER, its the most fitting universally useable synonym ,for being a reckless Daredevil, somethign who rushes into a fight withiout thinking about the consequences, one who loves to combat in melee combat and furiously hack and slash at every enemy whio gets in front of their staff with their martial artistical moves and initiative moves with that they can perform whole attack combos in a row to set an enemy under pressure, while meanwhile becoming over the time strogner and strogne,r so longer they risk themself getting into danger, being so reckless about what could happen to them…
thats basicalyl thewhole essence of the gamplay design and theme of the thief elite specialization, only that i think ,anet should tone done the perma evading and should give the class a better 50:50 relation of evades and blocks with that you can perform significant damaging counterattacks,m that give you as place a good feeling about risk and reward for playing alot more defensively with the staff and waiting for the opportunity to beat your enemy to a pulp in the right moment, instead of overwhelmign them with fast DPS like a normal thief would do, while using stealth to get their chances for a burst attack… the Elite specialization should burst, without being reliant so much on Stealth, and thats only doable in my opinion through either interrupts or even much bette,r through defensive blocks that lead to impressive counterattacks that let an enemy definetely know, when it is absolutely no good idea to attack the thief elite specialization in the moment, when they try to block your attacks. Combine this with Taunt to make foes force you to attack you, and its a very well tought out and working gameplay, that the thief cureently doesn’t has , but needs definerately, to become for PvP and WvW more competitive in a different way, than only perma evade/stealth all the way, which is somethign, what makes this class already since release extremely predictable
When you search for synonyms for Daredevil, you find words even like “risk-taker”, so I absolutely think, it would be the very best for this clas,s if it receives a unique gameplay mechanic, that involves also Risk and which rewards you for playing very riskfully this class and staying in melee combat, even when it gets all dangerous around you, still defending your ground, because you know, you become more dangerous for the enemy too, so riskier it becomes for you.
Also Skirmisher sounds alot nicer, goes easier from the tongue, and actually sounds also like being a profession, thats unique for a thief as specialization and not like Daredevil/Dragonhunter, like some kind of title, that absolutely everybody could wear, or lets you sound like a weather effect (which is a name abomination even for other languages like German where it needs to get forcefuly renamed to be something, that actually makes sense, but doesn’t mean anymore the same thing, when re translated back to english!!, because our german version of Tempest would be retranslated back be a Storm Messenger/Runner/Harbinger/Herald/Envoy/Summoner – so many synonyms, that you actually don’t know, what would be now the most fitting one here to choose for the retranslation, what could have been solved, if the class would get called instead just universally Summoner or Tamer (who tames Natural Forces in forms of various elemental Tempests like Blizzards, Schiroccos, Monsoons, Taifoons, Infernos ect.)
Honestly the best name for the specialization should be “ROUGE” not Rogue coz ROUGE reminds a lot of us that other game that we play. The name and the datamined staff skills and utilities fit so well coz it looks like a STUNLOCK build is possible…. j/k
With the addition of staves to our weapon set and physical skills to our utilities, not to mention the art that was previewed, I think a fitting name for the elite specialization would simply be “Martial Arts” or “Martial Artist”.
