I’m still new to the game but as I’m progressing I’m wondering if thieves are a solid choice for dungeons, fractals, and things of that sort. I just want to know if I’ll be needing to level another character better suited to PvE.

If u play full zerker, u are a damage dealer for bringing your foe down quickly. If u go in a party, u play a role of DPS and still can negate powerful attack from a champion by applying blind. Also, u can be a salvation when ur party is about to be destroy by using shadow refugee. (have to foretold ur member first before using the skill)

Most importantly, I can solo a champion for fun if u sacrifice power for trickery trait and others.

This is my PVE trait. I use this and can solo a champion since I have endurance refill/blind/evasion (3).

Thief – top tier DPS class, useful utilities (Shadow refuge, shortbow blasts, lot of AOE stealth possibilities).

That pretty much sums it up and answers your question.

Short answer: Yes

They are. Thieves are suited for dungeons with a lot of trash skipping. Engis and thieves both provide stealth, but thieves have more single target dps, longer stealth, easier access to blinds and interrupt.

Use 6/6/0/0/2 for bosses you can backstab, and 6/5/0/0/3 everywhere else except niche encounters you’ll learn after gaining experience. Weapons are dagger/dagger for single target, sword/pistol for cleave and difficult bosses, dagger/pistol for some encounters where you need both the single target damage and the pistol offhand utilities, and shortbow as an utility weapon. Sword dagger have some situational use.
Gear is full berserker. For your utilities, you can take either personal dps utilties like signet of agility, haste and signet of the assassin (agility is the most important one, you should take it pretty much all the time), group stealth/ projectile defense like smokescreen and shadow refuge when pistol 5+ blast isn’t enough, and shadow trap/ shadowstep/ sig. of the infiltrator (iirc) for mobility/ stunbreaks.

If you’re on EU and need help to get into dungeons, pm me.

If you’re new to the game then don’t worry too much. By the time you get into dungeons there will be another balance patch and the top classes will have changed. At the moment thief is a middle ranked class and can do all the content.

Thieves are initially hard to play in dungeons though, quite different from how beginners learn to play in the open world. For speed running, thieves have high dps and are popular but you won’t be speed running on day one.

I play mostly in dungeons with thief and engineer and I have to say that in terms of group,
Thief: +single target dps -support buff (I use the pvp built 6/0/2/0/6 to give buffs)
Engineer: +aoe dmg + support buff (using several blash finisher with flame bomb to give 16 stacks of might to the group lasting 34 seconds each and spamming more using 4/6/0/2/2 and strength runes) Also I can blast 9 seconds of stealth with smoke bomb

But even with all this usefullness I get kicked out time to time for being a thief and even sometimes when I use my engineer and they insult me asking “do you have a war or guard?”

Thought normally if you have a zerker set + scholar runes you are ok for any group

Thief is in all Dungeons a must have. Doesn’t matter if you need blinds, stealth or just loads of DPS. DPSwise thief dishes out the most and is ranked #1 compared to other classes. Given the right group set up it’s a wonderful class to play Just don’t run something else than zerker in dungeons please… If you have trouble and you don’t have enough dodges: run the 5,6,0,3,0 build first. Then slowly adjust to the 6,6,0,0,2. Also remember: your Dagger AA regenerates endurance. Lots of ppl don’t know that

That build is totally awful for PvE. But don’t mind the hates kicking you for not being heavy, they are most likely bad players/mean players.
