Recently I found a thread where someone was asking for the highest backstab ever landed. Well, I met a thief while roaming today and we decided to test out damage. So I went and got a level two, stripped her of all her armor, and had him backstab me with a zerker signet build. He was running around 100% critical damage and maybe 10 something stacks of might with 25 stacks of bloodlust when this occured. 3600 attack as well. He used assassin’s signet.
Signet of malice would have boosted that number by quite a bit, as well as more might stacks, seeing as how the max that can be reached is 25. (I asked him to bring some warriors/guardians for might stacking from his guild but it didn’t work out). Additionally, a warrior using frenzy would take 25% more damage, so the number could theoretically be boosted to around the 45k range. Finally, I’ve seen that 122% critical damage is possible and he was not running ascended (or even exotic, I believe) trinkets. So, it’s probably possible to get a backstab near 50k.
With pre patch frenzy and pre patch assassin’s signet you could potentially see a backstab in the range of 70k, but this is again all theorycrafting. And of course, as always, bunnies will take millions of damage from backstabs.
Is this practical? No, I recommend no thief run this build, because it is absolutely awful. Please don’t, and if you find yourself compelled to for some reason and follow through on it, try roaming with it for a bit. You may change your opinion the hard way.
