S/D is more of a pressure weapon than anything else. It does decent damage, but the sheer burst isn’t as high as that of D/D (or I’ve been lying to myself for years).

Big numbers are fun, but then again a 4 signet S/D sounds so stupid I just might give it a try at some point. If something awesome happens, I’ll post it

Well, we’re taking warriors with us. My rifle build actually hits HARDER (on a single hit, anyway) and it has a practically non existant cooldown and 1500 range :P

Of the top of my head, I think my personal record on lvl 80s so far is ~16.5k-ish. However, that’s without blood lust stacks and wearing mostly exotics.

I did a bit of math, and it turns out that 16.5k should go up to 17.7k with blood lust alone

this wont get nerfs. the build has no chance of even stomping in a 4v4 :P not as is anyway.

Stomping is pretty boring, so I usually cut it away. I do often Dagger 5 and stomp though, unless I deem it faster to dps them down. Alternatively I might stomp and dodge the interrupt.

There’s actually a 4th option as well. If I really must end the fight as quickly as possible (2:37, for instance), I save the Signet of Shadows when bursting. When the target goes down I immediately stomp while keeping an eye on their animations.The moment I see their interrupt animation start I pop the signet, and with the interrupt already started there’s no way they can get rid of it before the skill lands.

That way you don’t have to wait for revealed to end while still getting a guaranteed stomp on anyone other than thief, mesmer or ele.

For thieves a teleport of any kind (in my build steal, which is usually on cooldown) should do the trick, and if you can bait the mesmer to stealth right when you start the finishing move it’ll still finish them off, so long as they appear close enough. As such I tend to start and interrupt the finishing move several times against mesmers who just resign to their fate and sit there :P

Not much you can do about elementalists though, unless you have someone cc them during your stomp or something.

no. wont work. only in 1 v1 will that work. even in 2v2 3v3 you will prolly die stomping. there is nothing more squishy than this build. put it this way…. at 100% hp and u have your opponent downed…it would take several seconds for him to down u if u didnt move. no if there were several players….u will def die. the incidental dmg alone is enough.

hence why this build is never ran by anyon.e

I was just saying it was possible to stomp, not that he was doing anything wrong, I watched 10 secs of the movie is just kittened damage and bad/underleveled players dying I dont really care

Well I run S/D 0/10/0/30/30 with an aim to stack might and I can larcenous strike for about 5-6k with 20ish stacks of might. I only have about 70% crit damage as well so who knows you could get a 10k larcenous with full zerker, traits and bloodlust set up.

..Which is 2/3 of my backstab or 1/2 of my rifle shot. In other words, a lot smaller.

Then again, it’s spammable, so there’s definitely some potential there. We’ll see how it works when I have time to give it a try.

You get a near instantaneous slice(auto attack) after the larc hits, so it could easily add another 4k

Glad to be a source of inspiration

Doing tPvP with a build like this can be a bit tricky as the victims are more likely to know what they’re doing and your damage will be lower than in WvW, but if you can pull it off you might at least catch them off guard.

I’ve only played a handfull of games with a similar build in tPvP, but here’s what I’d do:
- Swap heal for Hide in Shadows. Signet of Malice is probably too risky.
- Swap one of the signets for a stunbreaker. I’d presonally trade Signet of Agility for Shadowstep, as you need the damage from Assassin’s Signet and the instant blind from Signet of Shadows is too useful for quick finishing.
- I’d also seriously consider taking Hidden Killer for the guaranteed backstab crit. Which do you need more, more damage or more reliable burst?

That’s about all I can think of right now. Play safe and keep your distance; only go within dagger range when you know you can get the kill. Good luck!

p/d dual skill spam while hugging a wall with the back into the face of someone in melee has similar effect.
For the most exquisite feeling you can also try d/p shadowshot spam under quickness. It has a bonus of being unblockable and unreflectable

Sorry to necro this thread. Attached is what i think the highest backstab i ever received including a screen of my stats at that point. The screen is ~3 months old, but at least it’s something ^^

/edit: It was a single thief, no buffs from other players. I can’t rule out borderlands bloodlust, though.

//edit: This post is just for showing the damage, i wouldn’t ask for nerfs on thief, you guys have it hard enough already.

9k CnK, 19k Backstab on 2k+ armor? Holy cruddery.

I ran the 4 sig build a few nights ago for the lulz and the highest BS i got was 16k on a mesmer.

On non uplvled, the highest I got was 16k as well.

But I don’t have the guard buffs + 250 power charge, and other crap.

If only I had more ascended thingyes…

Bloodlust stacks alone should take my damage up to ~18k though, so it wouldn’t take THAT much to get to those numbers. Can’t have someone go critting higher than me :P

I can tell you as a full ascended geared thief with 25 stacks of bloodlust and Guard leech, the numbers you are hitting with 4 signets popped are the same numbers im hitting, the difference is I dont need to pop signets to do it, its just my standard dmg, so yeah gear up and buff up.

lol.. that dramatic Kill Shot at the end. XD Gotta direct some hate away from Thief in the end a bit, eh?
