Greetings community,

Like many of you are aware the Nerf Wish List has been locked.
Not too sure why either, there was no message left or anything. I personally don’t see any harm from the thread, as it’s kind of a “jester” thread…

Either way, I wish to thank the mod, since it pushed me resurrect it in a more condense, clean, form. Plus it’s kind of fitting since there’s an upcoming HoT release that this thread gets “refreshed”.

I’ve scrapped togather a python script (found here http://pastebin.com/1YBHWL9E, yeah it’s pastebin), which goes over the old thread and parses it in it’s entirety… Essentially since HTML already has a structure, making finding posts easy, top it off with my own enforced structure of what/why/suggestion/thread makes it easier to parse/digest via a script…
Due to the character post limit being ~5000, it’s going to take me 44 posts to fully recreate all the requests from that thread. I will ofc go through those that look funny to make sure they’re correct.

Pheonixs never die, they rise from the ashes time and time again.


Well kitten, some of the requests have slipped through for some odd reason… I will probably manually add them in the end.. if I don’t forget or if I have energy/motivation left.


By motivation, I mean boredrom. As I’m posting the posts…

I realize that a significant amount of requests have been lost…

But, there should be a way to recover them and then fliter them out against the ones I’ve already posted…

Why:
Once a thief looked at me and without attacking me, I received 35k damage. This is with my 30,000 HP and 3,500 toughness.
Why should thieves be able to do so much damage to me without them even attacking????

What: Hide in Shadows
Why:
You get high healing, DOT removal, regeneration, and stealth. It dominates, and condition builds suffer the most. I’m thinking the healing should be lowered slightly (maybe equal to Shelter) and the condition removal should be limited to removing one DOT condition.

What: Condition Damage (Chocking gas and caltrops specifically) and Stealth
Why:
I spammed shortbow poison aoe, caltrops, etc to apply conditions on foes in area and noticed I can pretty much kill both players and monsters without becoming “revealed.” This is getting more and more popular in WvW and it is rather unfair… But this is enough, please make any damage the thieves do in stealth apply revealed. Spamming conditions from stealth should reveal them.

Why:

Why:
a 900 range skill that immobilizes? Really? Too OP. I’ve caught too many people trying to run away. Stealth and shoot – you don’t even need to waste initiative. Thieves already have it too easy. Drop the range from 900 to 5, make them waste all their initiative if they immobilize a target, and give it a 99.99% of failure, that still drains initiative. That’s more fair.
Oh, and if the skill fails, it immobilizes the thief instead, and adds five stacks of bleeding, poison, and torment.

So much mobility with instant cast and curing a condition is just intolerable. I want to be able to land my stuns and that Thieves have NO way of recovering AT ALL! The fact that they actually can get away is just….so daft! Why do Thieves get to cure conditions at all? This should be nerfed into the ground!

Why:
This skill has too much on it, projectile reflect makes them immune against rangers and engineer while totally annihilating them with reflect, and it shouldn’t give stability since thieves can stealth.

Why:
Special skills just for the thieves, with each weapon having its own unique stealth attack? All these special skills should be removed, since there’s no easy way to counter them from the thief stealth.
(the sad part is that I got the inspiration for this nerf from someone who wanted backstab to be half damage, instead of double damage)

What: Initiatives — too much
Why:
Initiatives allows a Thief to spam skills while other professions has to wait for cool downs. Initiatives should be a maximum of 8 initiatives and 9 max when traited. Whenever the Thief use an initiative skill, they get stun for 2s which will effectively stop the spamming and help them to conserve initiatives for other skills. We just care so much for the profession that we don’t want them to be a bad boy that needs spanking.

Because outside of several counters to entering stealth (Ranger’s Sic ‘Em, pulling or knocking a thief out of Shadow Refuge while it’s going on), there is no actual counter to stealth while inside it. Give a counter such as blocking stealth = reveal to fix this.

What: Heartseeker damage bonus
Why:
The bonus should not be compounded with other bonuses like Executioner, Flanking Strike (trait) and Vulnerability. It should be harder to finish off someone desperately fighting for their lives. Besides, blood-soaked daggers becomes dull over time so the heartseeker bonus doesn’t make any sense.

Bleeds and conditions OP! Remove the bleed from #1 .
They need to nerf our Armor from being so Trenchy. Trenchcoats are OP and restrict movement.

What: Being able to see while stealthed.
Why:
Stealth is invisibility, which means the thief’s retinas should not be able to absorb light whilst stealthed. Therefore, thieves should be presented with a blank screen while stealth is active. Mesmers use magic blindfolds and Rangers can, I don’t know, probably smell the landscape really well or something and thus should not be impacted by this change.

Why:
Since we’re free loot bags, this is a merge of all the requests, Not only should the class name change to “Free Loot Bag” and take away our limbs so we can’t run or do anything, instead a total remake should be made (I agree with Burnfall! He’s totally right when he said it.). Our character creation screen should show a 8 slotted bag that we can then customize (pick out ribbons and colors…), and as we level-up/gear-up as bags we progress into a 10 slotted loot bag then into a 15 and so on. Or we start off as “Tiny Loot Bag” and progress into a “Small Loot Bag” and so on.

their direct damage is too high. We should make the auto attack cost one imitative per shot because it does so much damage so quickly. Also the 2 skill should just be removed because thieves shouldn’t be able to root people, or apply vulnerability, especially with the extreme direct damage of pistol AA. While were at it, pistol shouldn’t be available as an off hand. Blind on a THIEF?! Outrageous! Just make pistol unable to even have an off hand weapon because, I mean, that AA is just so O kittening P!

They’re all playing dagger/pistol and all they do through out all fights is push 5 and then spam 2 (smokefield ? heartseak spam). The combo is really a no skill, annoyance to other players and kinda OP towards most light classes (necro DS insta kill, ele insta kill).
Suggestion:
Making heartseeker require like 2 more initiative so that a thief would be unable to spam it like 4 times in a row.Switching dancing dagger (Skill n°4 on dagger) with heartseeker would not only make dancing dagger being used more (due to it being the second skill) but would also fix the perma-stealth issue that’s been bothering a lot of WvW players.

Don’t know about every other non thief out there, but these thieves that can solo a bunch of people and win, due to perma stealth is bull ****, so over fighting them, I just walk away now, as it takes to many resources to down just one of these pugs.
Perma stealth is extremely annoying, and needs to be stopped, there is serious balance issues when 1 toon cant take on 5 and win, class match ups should be even and balance better.

This trait is so OP in wvw. This thief outnumbered 8 guys just by useing this with the Shadow’s Embrace (condi removal in stealth). These thiefs do mass damage and you can t do anything about it. and if you get them low , they will imidiatly get in stealth regain half of their health and you can t do anything about it. Wvw is full of those thiefs and it makes it really umbalanced. I heard a guy saying yeah but if you have skill you can kill those thiefs. The only guys I seen killing those thiefs are other thiefs with the same build. Condi builds and berserker builds are useless against them. So what works? Thiefs with the same build. I hear countless people say that thief is just the best class for pvp/wvw. Where is the fun if you can t just do anything against them and get killed.
I don t call these thiefs skilled , I just call it cheap.

because they cant accidentaly poison themselves when applying a poison in the middle of a fight
how to: Give the thief a chance based on how many apothecary items he does not wear to actualy poison himself by accident when applying a poison to his weapon
the thief should also have a craft in wich he is forced to specialise called alchemy so that he needs to constantly craft himself vials of poison to use them in the first place.

What: Thief’s Shortbows
Why:
Every thief is using them so it must be an OP weapon. For starters, thieves are abusing the ultra-short range to detonate arrows at point blank, and that is unrealistic and unfun. The explosion should damage the thief too to prevent that, and since the projectile is slow, the thief has time to get out of the way so the change is balanced.
Also thieves are spamming evades too much, so, whenever they use SB #3, they must suffer a 20% cumulative chance of the bow’s string snapping, and slashing their eyes, blinding them. Then, the string should fall to their feet, entangling them, and inflicting cripple for 10 seconds.
Choking gas is going to be nerfed already so that’s OK. Finally, I see that you removed the infiltrator’s arrow, but thieves still keep teleporting neverthless, so they must be using a exploit. Fix it please.

It’s a OP ability that’s not widely known. When you backstab the target from the front (in their face), it’s a frontstab… but the name says backstab, you shouldn’t be able to frontstab people. That thread was proof how unreasonable community can be and how off touch are devs with state of thieves in game (they actually implemented some suggested nerfs). I guess someone didn’t want to get reminded that there is huge elephant in the room.

However, everytime I find a thief, no matter what, I just die. And the problem is, I can’t even see him! I just go around, then bam! Dead! I got hit by 18k spikes out of nowhere. Why:
Their ability to stack stealth in excess of 10+ secs duration is a bit overwhelming to counter. There are different builds ranging from tank/condi to pure 10K+ BS burst all of which can maintain perma stealth. If you want perma stealth, I expect your BS to hit like a wet noodle. Basically, I want to reduce the “reward” for low risk skills.
Suggestion:
Leap finisher through smoke field gives 2 secs of stealth instead of 3.
Example BP + 3 HS combos:
3*2=6 secs of stealth
3-4 secs used to execute combo
Net gain of 2-3 stealth after complete combo.
VS.
Original BP + 3 HS combos:
3*3=9 secs of stealth
3-4 secs used to execute combo
Net gain of 5-6 secs of stealth after complete of combo.

Roaming on my mesmer, I stopped to look at the beautiful scenery. Out of nowhere, this mean thief backstabs me. I’d have been prepared if I saw him. Due to their poor childhood, thieves were not able to eat properly and develop strong bodies, thus making it impossible for them to swing a sword so many times with only one arm without getting tired (or even lift the sword in the first place)

Why:
Honestly, X/X/X/30/30 S/D thieves have so many “natural” evades (evades that burn endurance) through Feline Grace, Vigorous Recovery and Bountiful Theft that the fact that you’re able to get might for 15 seconds at base per dodge is absolutely absurd. When you’re getting stacks of might for nearly half a minute from a single dodge, then that’s stepping way out of bounds. 10 stacks of might computes to more than a 16% damage boost in direct damage alone which lasts a period of almost half a minute and doesn’t require a lot of conditions to fulfill outside of dodging frequently, which you should be doing anyways (and this damage buff is to a build that’s pretty good already). Combined with Fluid Strikes, this is an extremely large buff to your overall damage, especially just for being an adept trait, and as a result this single Adept trait contributes to a very easy-to-play thief play style which is becoming increasingly frequent in today’s meta.

Thieves shouldn’t be allowed to move while in combat. It is 100% impossible for anyone to even touch a thief while duelling. They already have stealth so cutting off their ability to move would balance everything.

almost every thief in PvP will choose this as their utility. Since it’s the mainstream choice, it must be OP. Nevermind the fact that Thieves’ Guild and Dancing Dagger are both too long of a cooldown to be reliable in short fights – that’s no excuse to favor an OP skill. Basilisk Venom should have a 30% chance of backfiring and stunning the thief while being applied. Logically, how is a thief supposed to get the venom on their weapon in the middle of dodging, running, being OP while stealthing, etc. and not get some on their own skin?
And while we’re at it, It should also add torment and confusion damage to the thief. It makes sense.

Isn’t it obvious thieves move too much in combat and teleport and evade all over the place. This makes it hard for other classes to 1shot their health. The solution is simple nerf all of thieves teleports increasing the initiative cost. Also add huge aftercasts to every thief skill so they can be sitting ducks for all the passive no skill classes to kill.

I mean everybody cry over thief excess stealth. But I don’t think their strenght is there… The real pain is Thief continuous reset ability. It reflects rapid fire. Rangers have been on the receiving end of unwarranted hate for so long, and the obvious culprit must be thieves, since thieves are dangerously OP. So thieves shouldn’t be able to counter the new buff to rapid fire, and should just accept balance and die a horrible, horrible, death. Because everyone hates thieves.
^I feel like a hunted criminal in WvW nowadays since almost every roaming ranger pops rapid fire the very second they see me.
I miss fighting the graceful sword/x rangers in WvW. Where are they? They were so rare before, but now they’re like extinct…

allow mesmers , thieves to stay in it for as long as they want to . the moment they are attacked or attack they can not re enter stealth for 5 mins . so no in combat stealth , other penalties towards stealth is movement speed reduction by 30 % so that you have to be smart when you do come out of stealth but cant just run up to anybody while in it , you have to decide when to be in stealth smartly for ambushes or getting behind enemy lines .
bonus damages for thief using skills in stealth would be raised 25% in effectiveness ,
as for mesmers their boons or ports duration last longer by 25% so everyone can be effective .
this is mainly towards wvw and pvp . as for pve keep it the way it is .

I’m sick of being hit repeatedly with 7-9k backstabs and being downed before you can even react. It’s rediculous! I’m running full PTV (Soldier) gear on my Ranger, and am still falling victim to backstab spam.
Suggestion:
This ability simply needs a 20sec cooldown or so. This should also be applied to other Thief “stealth burst” skills. Surprise Shot, Tactical Strike, Backstab, Sneak Attack.

From a main thief, when I see SA thieves in PvP it just kittens me off.
1- SA players are useless because they deal low damage and cant cap while in stealth
2- any player that uses the SA trait line becomes bad so its unhealty for the game

Shadow arts makes the thief the most faceroll class in the game. and everytime I see an SA thief I feel like deleting my thief due to how shameful that build is.

Shadow arts needs to be removed. OR. Solution, shadow rejuvanation now only heals for 20 hp per second, so if you wanna heal you would need Healing power gear

Summary of steal when using the current thief build (30 0 10 0 30)
1) 1.244 dmg (usually more)
2) 2 boons stolen (priority on stability)
3) giving these boons to you and nearby allies in a radius of 240
4) grants vigor for 10 seconds
5) grants you and allies in a radius of 360 fury for around 10 sec
6) grants you and allies in a radius of 360 swiftness for around 10 sec (and 1 might stack)
7) heals you for 2.040
8) puts poison on the enemy for 13 seconds
9) dazes the target (which goes through stab because its first priority on boons removed)
10) when using the current backstab build with panic strike it afflicts weakness for 51/4 sec on the enemy
11) recharges all skills of one type (traps, venoms etc)
12) gives you 2 initiative
13) has a 900 range
14) is instacast
15) can even be casted if you cannot even port to the target currently because he is on an obstacle (effects still proc)
16) only has 21 1/2 seconds cooldown
17) ports to the target (instant gapcloser)
18) you get a skill that in most cases counters your enemy for a certain amount of time
Can you not see how this is utterly broken?
To be honest I don’t acually mind having such a thing on thief because thief requires at lot of skill to be played competetively but the problem is that even tho the thief uses a lot of trait points to improve his “steal” ability in order to improve his survivability he still deals a ridiculous amount of dmg by double procs (air-fire, fire-blood)
Suggestion:
1.) Add counterplay to steal (you can only predict it atm)
2.) Remove some effects of steal – or – nerf double procs but make up for the nerfs by buffing other things on classes (not thief) that rely on these procs to have sustained dmg

- Add a real cast time (as OP suggested). 0.25s isn’t a real cast time, it literally just makes the skill not able to be used as a psuedo-stunbreak.
- Remove the healing it provides (at least on downed people). Currently, SR is like a short Elixir R, in addition to the whole stealth thing and being a dark field.
- No longer able to drop at range, simply a player-based skill so that there is risk to dropping this on a team-mate (besides lost CD).

A lot of skills these days are getting telegraphs because of OP problems. Steal does many things when traited: daze, rip and steal boons, stealth, and damage
It seems to be unblockable as well.
No other profession has a skill that can do this much crippling damage to a player. Mesmer has moa which is unblockable but it is also an elite.
At least give steal a tell so people can dodge it , maybe even a slower teleport that shows a trail or how about change the skill so it can only be used in melee( makes perfect sense to add a tiny bit of realism into a fantasy game) . So far its just luck and uncanny anticipation. Anet nerfed point blank shot, so why not this?

So it’s totally unfair when a thief uses SR as a decoy for AoE fields. As in the thief drops down SR but doesn’t enter it – maybe instead they use another stealth skill – leaving the SR field empty and people will AoE the empty field. This is totally not fair, an SR should be changed/nerf.
Suggestion:
Make the center (where the little house icon is) of the SR field be “attached” to the thief, as in it will move the whole field with the thief.

Why:
Something seriously needs to be done with the amount of shortbow 3 spam. I’m usually strongly in defense of thieves, as seen in my posting history, but for reals, after taking a 1.5year break from thief and using other classes, nothing stands out as OP in thief as the godkitten shortbow 3 spam. It’s way too potent for a last ditch method to stay alive. With stealth, there are a huge amount of counters that if well placed, can end a thief. This includes anything from dodging/blinding/interrupting CnD to sic em.
On the contrary shortbow 3 has very few counters. Immobilize has no affect on it at all, you can’t interrupt something you can’t hit(minus a few abilities such as wall), and the cripple it stacks on you allows them to gain a huge amount of distance. Against other thieves, this isn’t an issue, but try playing as a guardian with very little mobility against someone who could simply whip out their shortbow and spam 3 when near death. Pair this with the massive amounts of initiative gain that Anet offers thieves, and what you end up with is pure bullkitten.
Suggestion:
Increase the initiative cost of the ability, and make it so that you can no longer use the ability while immobilized.

This will largely reduce the ammount of invis spamming happening. Currently 3 seconds in game ticks is nothing and you can easily dodge and cloak and dagger you opponent as if no time has passed.
By making it 6 seconds, we wont make invisibility unreliable but rather a more tactical skill than a spammable one.

Increase reveal uptime to 6 seconds.

Currently in world vs world, a thief on food with might stacks can easily crit up to 14- 16k on a target with high toughness. By reducing this by 25% we drop it into the 10- 12k range.
Quite a reasonable nerf that still allows the class to quickly burst down most light armoured enemies.

Thieves have access to what is easily the highest swiftness up time. You’d also be lucky to find a thief that isn’t running acro + trickery for 100% vigor up time.
By reducing the vigor on heal to 4 seconds and bountiful thefts vigour to 6 seconds.
This would mean you still have 50% vigor up time.
Swiftness would also be reduced to that you only gain swiftness on every dodge roll when you have 30 in acro.
Suggestion:
Greatly decrease vigor and swiftness uptime.

Thieves easily have the highest and fastest condition cleansing speed.
With Condition cleanse happening every time you heal as well as every time you become invisible – its hard for us to stack condis on you.
Change this so that you only cleanse 1 condition on heal and 1 when entering invisibility.
To counter these changes i propose these buffs.

Currently however Stealth is too OP for any other builds to really be viable and if you play a thief without Stealth goodluck getting anywhere with it. I mean maybe S/D SB builds but even they rely on SR and CnD
2. Because of fight reset. you can solo a thief and if he is dying or gets bored he can just pop SR or anyone of hundreds of other stealth combos, wait 3s in it and restart with full HP and All CD’s. Meanwhile Wwe are still in combat maybe with some condi’s still on us for the thief to comeback to and toy with at his pleasure
Suggestion:
Rduce # of ways to get into stealth. Currently there are 2 reveal skills, rnager has 1 and Engi has 1 both with longish CD’s 30ish seconds. On any thief build there are as many as I dunno 10 ways of getting into stealth a few of them spammable (yes im looking at you Blackpowder heartseeker). Therefore to balance stealth either we need more reveals or less ways to get into stealth. BTW Revelas are 6s long. I believe that stealth should be something that only becomes super OP when you have to trait heavily into it while sacrificing other things like dmg or surviveabilty. Currently you can trait like 4 deep and have stealth reset fights for you. I dont think this is fair. Now im just waiting for people to tell me to L2P.

theres literally no way to kill these people 1 on 1.
i’ve used stealth trap. they warped out of range
i’ve tried to maximize dmg to them the 3 secounds they visible. they dissapeared in 1 secound(i thought we FIXED the render issue)
seriously….this is getting annoying.
i cant even immobilize them because they lose conditions when stealthed, so just walk out of my vines.
Suggestion:
can we plz remove the horribly long time it takes to put down a stealth trap?
that alone would go a long way to fix this problem…..without kitten ing thief in pve or sPvP

Why:
It is too under powered and weak. It doesn’t last long enough.
Suggestion:
It should last longer so I can get 2 full Point Blank Shot, Rapid Fire, & Long Range Shot rotations in. It’s not fair when I’m on a roll and beaming Thieves from ranges in excess of 1,500+ to have to stop when they use their cowardly 1,200 range escape shadow step.
Not only that but every class should have a mechanic similar to Revealed, but for different trait lines.
For example:
Warriors get “Weakling” on their shouts that makes all Deadly Arts traits into Liberal Arts, meaning all the traits are now random despite what you have selected.
Mesmers get “Dumbfounded” which means all clones and phantasms can body block and Theives can no longer land critical hits.
Elementalists get “Exhaustion” that means all Boons and Vitality is set to base and any endurance starts to drain instead of regenerate. Any dodges used creates a negative regen pool.
Guardians get “Unfavored” which means Magic Find is set to base and 1 T-Shirt of Colin Johanson holding a Guardian icon is sent to your home or place of business.
Necromancers get “Macabre” where all steal and conditions are set to base and any time you hit a Necro you get inflicted with 1s of Fear.
We don’t know everything about Revenants yet so this is just speculation, but I think it should go something like:
Revenants get “Mistified” which means Thieves can no longer slip in and out of phase, disabling any and all Shadow Stepping abilities.

What: Skill cap reduced/nerfed – Playing well should incur a handicap.
Why:
It’s readily apparent that a HUGE population of theives have no idea that they are contributing very little to the team, and in many cases actually think their far tactics or lord rushing (into death) are actually helping the team.
On the flipside, when thieves are actually good. They are too good, and incite confusion among the general playerbase. “How can he dodge that many times?” “Is it really fair that he can bypass the down mechanic by going invisible?”
Short answer is, yes its fair, but the profession, when played well is in need of a nerf. Lets step back for a second and look at a class with an even higher skill ceiling, the Mesmer.
Now a mesmer, when played well, finds itself in weaker position than a well played theif, yet is harder to play to its full potential. Can you respect a mesmer who plays well? I know i sure can. On the other hand, a theif who play’s well almost seems to be abusing several rotations that allow it to be nearly unkillable. It feels cheesy to fight a well played theif, not like the mesmer who just tricked the hell outa me.
So on both end of the spectrum, bad and good theives are toxic to this community, the profession should have never been added to the game, but since it’s here it really needs to be reworked.

Thieves should constantly move in a direction of an edge of a cliff, regardless of where the camera is pointing and which keys they press. When at the edge of the cliff, the thief will proceed to jump off.

An AOE ability to stealth and heal the thief and his allies for many seconds is pretty strong and overkill.
Suggestion:
I suggest making it a bit more challenging by disallowing dodges/evades while in the refuge. No dodging or evading allowed if the thief or his allies are standing in the refuge. This allows enemies to land a successful attempt to draw them out of the refuge.

Why:
instant cast and such a long range with stun break and condi cleanse makes this kind of cheesy.
Suggestion:
I suggest either reducing the range to 600 so that enemies will generally still be able to react, or remove the condi cleanse on return part.

1. Increase the stealth trap duration to at least 1 minute. Make it really worthwhile.
2. Stealth skills need longer cooldowns or a higher cost. Anything so that you can’t spend the entire “fight” stealthed.
3. Re-tool the contest mechanic to take away all joy from a perma-stealth. Pew pewing a door causes all nearby npcs to point and laugh instead.

I will introduce thief profession 2 most problematic traits that are responsible for making this profession not challenging and fun: – Shadow Arts and Trickery.
Shadow Arts is too powerful: it is reason for stealth abuse and give thief profession too much reward for just stealthing instead of taking risk.
Trickery is too powerful: it is reason for the very high damage include stealing for instant kill. It give thief profession too much access to death/instant kill instead of hard work. Also not forget: Boon stripping is very powerful so i adjust it to every 60 seconds.
I will give my suggestion of change to those 2 most problematic traits in thief profession.
Last- I felt the ones that do not require change was challenging and important to make thief more support to their allies. The traits that are no longer- will be replaced with challenge skills that do not give thief too much advantage)
Suggestion:
Adept:
Last Refuge
– Use Blinding Powder when your health reaches a certain threshold.
(Last Refuge- Blinding Powder duration: 1 second)
Master:
Meld with Shadows
- Stealth skills last longer.
(Meld with Shadows- Stealth skills no longer last longer)
Grandmaster:
Hidden Assassin
- Gain might when you gain stealth.
(Hidden Assasin- This trait no longer grant might when you gain stealth)
Adept:
Slowed Pulse
- Grant regeneration if you have two or more stacks of bleeding.
