Q:
Sigils of Fire and Air on D/D
A:
Both sigils share the same cooldown. You can only proc one of them at a time, so I would suggest getting some other sigil without cooldown on the OH.
Also, Sigil of Fire does more damage than Air both in terms of AoE and single target so go for the fire.
I am anti-censorship, for it doesn’t make sense to pander to a minority.

It’s also like 25x more expensive! Unless this is sPvP.
Him didn’t know this. Why would fire Sig do more damage than air?
The Sigil of Air proc deals 10% more damage than the Sigil of Fire proc (The Sigil of Air has a 1.1 ratio, while the Sigil of Fire has a 1.0 ratio). Whether that is worth giving up the 150 AoE for is up to you (of course, the cost savings may also be taken into account…)

It seems I must stand corrected on one of two fronts.
Either I was getting the wrong information after ANet nerfed air runes (which seemed to have nerfed air sigils)
OR
There wasn’t a nerf at all and I’m just akitten
Either way, at time of posting Sigil of Air seems to do 8.5% more damage (in berserker mists gear on a 25/30/0/0/15 build) than Sigil of Fire

It wasn’t Sigil of Air that got hit with the nerf bat, it was the Air Runes armor set bonus that caused a lightning proc.
As for which is more beneficial to use, I think it depends on weapon choice and spec personally, but as a general rule I find daggers/pistols go better with air and swords/bow go better with fire.
Sigil of Fire is clearly the best damage sigil for the shortbow – the weapon is all about AoE damage, and the AoE proc works perfectly with it. Also, if you use a Sigil of Air it feels like it triggers on a Trick Shot bounce to some trash mob you don’t even care about ALL THE TIME, which leads to much flipping of tables. Keep your tables right side up, use Fire.
It’s a lot more open ended for pistols because you’re going to be pulling them out to pound single targets most of the time – making the AoE damage from Fire moot. There are good arguments for using a Sigil of Blood or Earth here as well. It’s pretty simple in my mind, though – you use an Air Sigil, because eventually you’d find yourself in the Underground Fractal fighting the last boss, and your team will dump a hot load on him, and then you’ll see ‘Lightning Strike – FIFTEEN THOUSAND DAMAGE’ over and over again and be all every time.
Melee weapons are a lot more complicated because they have more frequent bursts of downtime and have much higher auto-attack damage ratios than ranged weapons. All the options make sense here; I use Rage because I want to monster dunk on people in WvW and don’t think any of the other incremental advantages are worth the effort of swapping them out for PvE.
I’m a thief using D/D & P/P. I like fire because u can do a lot of AOE or single target with the pistols. (much better for bosses than a bow for AOE).
