Thief Patch Notes - 14th December 2012
The increase of Fleet Shadow from 33% to 50% is quite an interesting choice though, it’s like they’re trying to say “Yeah Thieves can get away easily in Stealth, that’s the point! In fact, you don’t like it? Good, we’ll make them even better at it!”
And that’s when I quit a game.

If you can’t understand that Thieves are supposed to be mobile and agile and that this buff was obviously to balance with the increase in other classes speed then good riddance.
all is vain

I checked your posts. You are a PvE Freak. If you got bored,or you failed to compete at the gear-fest,don’t try to find an excuse at something else, like the thief.

Lost hope in arenanet. I stopped playing this a while ago due to poor design decisions, and these patches are just making it more clear that this game isn’t going to get better over time… Off to play a different, more enjoyable game.
are people crying cuz thieves didnt get nerfed, or because thieves didnt get buffed? =S
I’m pretty fine with the updates. Nothing too major or game changing, but they did buff up other classes with more mobility and various other things. They buffed up pistols a bit since it was weak in direct damage.
Anet didn’t nerf thieves blindly, and that kept my faith and MANY skilled players’ faith in their ability to balance.
Very disappointing changes, P/P will be just as boring and tedious as before, and only marginally more DPS. Thief in PvE continues to be shortbow and repeatedly pressing “2” button.
Switch to another weapon? I don’t keep to one weapon either because the attack style gets repeative and people can predict you more easily. Mix it in with weapon swap (that’s why thieves and some classes have it and some don’t). That’s same with all classes I’ve played though. I swap out weapons because of cooldowns or situation. In thief’s case, it is more situational since there’s no CD.
- Thief
- Thieves are the masters of mobility, stealth and high single target damage. They can be very fragile if you counter their stealth with area of effects or large stacks of conditions, but they trade this fragility in order to have some of the highest burst damage in the game. They are able to help allies through traps, venoms and the mobility to flank most encounters.
Trait IV – Shadow’s Embrace: Remove one condition every 3 seconds while in stealth – Trollolool
Lol, seriously? Most stealth abilities barely last more than 3 seconds, so that’s one condition we get to remove, if we specifically trait to do so! ONE condition. Unless we use Shadow Refuge, in which case we have to stand in the circle to get the full effect giving enemies a big red target showing exactly where we are to AoE us.
Well, do you think other classes are getting rid of conditions that easy? (Except necros).

OK, every sbow or lbow user now are firing t 30% faster, NOW I WANT IT TOO, dont know y a warrior should fire the lonbow faster than the sbow thief -.-’’

Not firing faster, arrows just travel faster.

Is that a joke?
Eles and Guardians get rid of conditions fast, thieves get rid of conditions at a constant rate better then Necros, we have “burst” cleanse or transfer on prohibitive cooldowns.

I was expecting more land based skill buffs, but hey, I’m not complaining. Has anyone tried the 10% bonus pistol damage trait yet? Does it help out or does it fall flat?
LoL at the thieves are good at running away people. Seriously? People will complain about anything. Also, if you want to see running away skills look at the D/D ele now. At least thieves have the grace to stealth to escape, you have to watch a D/D ele slowly move further and further away from you all the while refilling their health bar. That is funny in my opinion.
I think the fleet shadow got changed because it was redundant before. In the same traitline you could get 2 seconds of swiftness on evade… and stealthing usually involved rolling behind the character or rolling away and running…so now there is a reason to take fleet shadow. If you read their thoughts behind balancing they said that the thief is supposed to have the highest mobility and single target burst. As for the pistols, this is probably just the first increment as they said that they don’t like to make huge sweeping changes that they have to fix later, so maybe there will be a buff to damage or greater chance for bouncing in the next patch.
Ricochet is just lol now instead of a face palm, so that’s an improvement I guess.
VERY interesting choice in the stealth escape, perhaps to make up for some of the extra speed buffs tossed out to all the other classes.
If you don’t run Signet of Shadows, you’re a clown.

Signet of shadows isnt a mandatory utility. After we wont be able to swap our utilitys i imagine most thieves will run. Shadow refuge, Shadowstep, Assasins signet(thats my bet on this one).
Up till now when i was in premade team, i got my swiftness up from teammates who have access to it not wasting utility slot.
Anyways im happy with thief changes, nuthing major but nuthing bad too.
I tested Fleed shadow myself, btw. It is particulary buged or on intention caped at 33% when out of combat. In combat it adds 50% movespeed yet out of combat its same old 33% that swiftness was giving.
I think ANet doesn’t want to buff Ricochet too much because in situations with 2 targets, it’s a huge DPS boost.
Think about it : it’s 20% chance to fire a bullet that hits two targets. So it’s 20% more damage. And contrary to the usual +xx% damage, it works for conditions too. And it also gives 20% more “hits” so 20% more proc on hits etc…
All that in a much easier package than piercing bullets which require targets to be aligned in front of you.

Extremely disappointing patch in terms of xPvP and WvW imo. Whatever, let ANet dig their own grave.
This guy never looked at any other class except his own. Menders purity and there is a food that will remove condi on heal. There is a guardian trait that turns condi in to boons so yea. You should go look at the other forums for the professions.

I see most of the complaining based around WvW in 1v1. Classes are balanced around sPvP for 1v1; not WvW.
WvW by it’s nature will NEVER be balanced, if you aren’t really good at your class, or a thief, don’t try to solo unless you don’t mind dying.
Honestly, in WvW i still say: Descent of Shadows > Fleet Shadow. But i will give it a try and see how much of an effect it has.

It’s always people who don’t know kitten about how Thief works the first ones to complain.
We’re talking about traits, however. Setting up one means you’ll have to relinquish another possibly useful one.
Oh and remember, if you lose in WvW or PvP it’s always the Thief’s fault, right? :P
Anyways, this is the first time in months we see something slightly close to a buff, as it’s always been nerf after nerf for Thieves. About time, I’d say.

Actually Shadow’s Embrace removes a condition as soon as you enter stealth. So you would remove 2 condition with a CnD, not to mention you can CnD again another 2 times (with near full initiative) if you don’t apply revealed on yourself. That’s 6 condition removals just from CnD.
And you only need stand in the Shadow Refuge for 4 seconds, to get the extra 10 seconds of stealth. That’s 5 conditions in in total (14 seconds).
If you have any more questions about the thief class, don’t hesitate to ask.
if we specifically trait to do so!
Lol, seriously; if? ^nuff said imo.

Oh the mythical thief that has every trait and utility and that has enemies dumb enough not to aoe or pull/push the thief from the huge kittening house with an arrow pointing downwards saying ‘hi aoe here plz’

It’s a 10 point trait :\ ……. and arguably the best one we have and Shadow Refuge is one of the most used thief utilities. I’m sorry but, your argument is invalid.
Edit: I get it now! You guys run one of those GC-BV-Backstab builds that die to 4 seconds of AoE, or 3 stacks of bleeding. Smh, I should guessed!
And I’ve only heard of those mythical Pull/Push abilities that every Class and Build has, off-cooldown, just waiting for a Thief to Shadow Refuge.

Who are you talking to? My OP was a quote from the Patch notes thread.
Disappointing patch for thief overall.
P/P is still underwhelming because of the lack of changes to the actual 1-3/5 skills.
Being forced to trait certain traits to make P/P somewhat viable is a joke. Traits are supposed to add an enhanced backbone to a viable weapon set. P/P isn’t viable to begin with…and being forced to trait certain traits to attempt to make it viable only leaves you with a limited number of traits to try out different things. 6 initiative for skill 5 is still too much (should easily be lowered to 5).
Yep PP still kitten, SB remains better for direct damage. Ah well back to Hawken
So it seems no matter what the bad players that inhabit this game will continue to complain about thieves…..even AFTER Anet tells em to kitten off.
I love it tho all teh qq. LOL
Bad players play thieves.
Funny you should mention…….I would seriously like to see you try to play my S/D tank build with any success……not all people play thieves for an easy way out as we also have the single highest skillcap builds available. Noticeably less popular (for that very reason I’m sure), but they are there.
