What a day it is to main a thief
Sir Vincent, I really hope you are wrong but with the track record this far it’s going to most likely happen, and more so now I can see them reading your comment and think that it is a brilliant idea.
Quietly waiting for all the mesmer mains to start going thief.
done..pretty satisfied even befire patch

Think of the money they make off weapons and armor…

Same but for pvp I’m not conflicted, I main Mesmer for pve Chronotank and Pvp on Thief, if I could I would raid with my thief if people would allow me lol. But yeah it sucks since launch I have seen both of mains receive nothing but Nerfs the majority of the time.

Yea, I’m in a similar situation.
Semi-tangential rant: It’s really frustrating just how often you have to swap professions to stay relevant in content. Not only do classes go from zero to hero due to balance changes, but different content types favor some classes so much or so little that it’s really rough if you want to main one class and stick with it.
I think Guardians are the only profession to stay relatively strong in all content for most of the game, but even they got wiped out of favor for raids.
One thing I find astounding though, with the whole Mesmer community calling out us as hard counters and doing things better than they can, is they have a lot more group utility in all game modes but they try to play Mesmer as though it is a thief, yes it has the capability but is not where it is focused in that play style as Thief is. Hell I would love to have some group utility for the thief that is actually viable. But it will never happen.

Not me. My Mesmer is strictly boon work. Boon allies, condi foes. standard chaos/staff build. I use it for silverwastes.

I am not sure how many will take that passive Invuln buff. While I myself not over fond of such passives, I will likely stick to pain response on my s/d thief. Something that kicks in once every 40 seconds will likely not save me in any case and I would hate to die to burning and poison because I got 10 stacks of each on me and rather then pain response kicking In I evade the next few attacks
I am looking forward more to the new upper hand and any other changes that might happen in that line.

That passive is trash compared to Revenant’s UA of 2s evade on a 12s cooldown. If I want more evade, I’d rather take Vigorous, Trickster and Withdraw. Thief didn’t need passive evasion, I would assume that by now every Thief knows how to evade attacks. What the Thief need are Protection and Stability or even Resistance.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
Jana: I use Sigil of Fire all the time and haven’t noticed it being broken. What was wrong with it? I know that there was the 50% damage problem with some Ele skills when using it, but haven’t come across anything else.
It didn’t proc, I think – I just noticed that it was dirt cheap on the TP and someone told me it was broken – and I haven’t seen it proccing in a long time, I think but I didn’t really think about it = watching my damage log.
Just a JFYI: It felt that SoF worked as should but I didn’t want to reply until I’d made sure. Spent a lot of yesterday testing something* and checking my combat log; and SoF is fine atm.
*My eternal nemesis: Why does my damage output drop when I switch to Scholar Runes? I like figuring things out for myself but I might have to drop a thread about this one at some point….
Yeah, checked it myself – I sometimes do damage with it but I don’t see it proc anymore.
I use SoF on sb in pvp, procs fine for me~
[Teef] guild :>
I am sure i remember a few times cheked my log. “the sigil dmg actually crited” and i dont know how that happened..

It depends on your build. Typically, on a staff build with DD/Acro/Trickery, you’ll get a lot more value from the invuln.
The trait will be good, for sure. And I hate it. I thought Anet was finally going away from all these cheap invulns with the nerfs to Precog Well and the changes to Vamp runes before that, and now this? I remember a time when if a player didn’t have good enough reflexes, a mesmer/thief burst could down him in seconds. Now the game is playing for you on many builds.

For evades on staff when needed i tend to use number three. A DD/Trickery/Acro staff build is Ini rich and can easily afford to do this. On said build I would still favor PR so there not as much an onus to take Escapists absolution. Staff mastery will generate a whole lot of extra endurance to fuel the evade on debilitating which would be available at any time and not stuck in cooldown.
Now it can be argued the cleanse on PR an auto proc as well and that would be accurate but it on a much lower cooldown and adds help to where a Staff builds (sans escapists) needs it more and that condition cleanse.
To the new passive, I am sure there will be many that will take it and in particular those not as good at evading but while it will add some element of survival to the build I do not think it will be as much as some suggest. 40 seconds is a long time in game terms. The reasons such traits work with other professions is they have other skills/traits that can complement such a passive trigger and cascade one into the other more easily.
I am not overly opposed to one or two survival passives that trigger on their own . I feel the real issues occur when one can take 3 , 4 or more of these at at once. one good thing about the new evasive trait is where it placed. You can take either the PR or the new trait but not both. This helps with the issue of the game playing for you.

Maybe SoF doesn’t play nice with daggers then (?), since it procs for me with everything from thrown boulders to harpoon guns – but I don’t use daggers with my main. Dunno, I’ll look into it when I eventually get round to levelling one of my dagger alts, and file a bug report if there’s a problem… FWIW….
I use incinerator mainhand – on my one thief, the others don’t have the skin – I saw it proc with another dagger but yesterday also with incinerator – guess I just wasn’t paying enough attention; or the fights against stealthed thieves have been a while that’s when the proc was most important/visible.
