Closing in on 80 - Next Steps?
The first thing is that you get clear how you want to play your warrior.
It does not matter to much what is best. You must be able to play it and learn how to move and use the gap closers. I would suggest a power based build to start with.
You donĀ“t need ascended.
What i did is buy soldier jewelery from the karma mercants at the temple.
Then put on a knight armor (shop) and take berzerker weapons. I got my first with WvW badges. (Just put cheap runes in like blood and acuracy) In the armor you can also put a cheap one like lyssa.
The go to the build editor and make you build. this equipement should be good to use in PvE and WvW. Shure you can go more offensive but this comes with time.
Pick laurel from the daily login at the end of a month. This is for ascended trinkets and slowly substitute your soldiers.
The weapon you use is personal style. A shield in one set is no mistake :-). Warhorn is to forget.
An my first crafter was a jeweler. I did put the gems into the trinkets. Use power + precision + X

Warriors aren’t the best , but there’s enough negativity already so please don’t say that
This applies for all professions, but especially more for warrior and thieves imo, get familiar with all the other professions, or at least have a small idea on their builds and skills so you can learn to out play them, it’s going to really help for spvp and wvw
Wolfric gave you some solid advice there. Definitely don’t spend any time trying to get ascended armour or weapons until you’ve figured out how you like to play your warrior.
Unless you dislike greatsword for some reason, that’s probably going to be one of your weapons. Works well against pve critters who’ll just eat 100 blades, and it’s good in wvw for mobility and respectable damage.
Casual pve is forgiving of just about any build, and you’ll find it easier to skip defensive stats like toughness and vitality there. In wvw, it’ll be a process of matching your skill and style against other players to figure out how much toughness/vitality you should run. Pvp is a good place to experiment in order to figure out what works for you before you buy any gear.
I think gs/a+m will still work in pve, but I’m not all that up-to-date on pve stuff. It’s not a good build for pvp or wvw though… lacks defense, so you’ll spend most of your time dead. The best condi build in pvp/wvw for warriors is the berserker m+sh/s+t. I think the preferred condi build for pve is lb/s+t, but I might be wrong about that.
Good luck!

Thank you for the psoitive and helpful responses!
I definitely understand the negative viewpoints but I am so far away in skill level and free time that my shortcomings will greatly overshadow class mechanics issues.
