How To Tank In All Ways?
This game doesn’t have tanks/healers/dpsers. Everyone needs to do enough dmg to kill things, be able to keep themselves alive using various blocks, blinds, and evades, and be able to heal themselves with their #6 healing slot. Going for a pure tank is completely useless and is a hassle to your group, especially as their are no aggro mechanics, so even if you do build extremely tanky, your still not even holding aggro for your group
You misunderstand. I’m not talking about aggro. I’m talking about survivability. The traditional tank is heavy, metal, and unkillable and that’s what I want to be.
GW2 in PvE is like playing Monster Hunter or Dark Souls…sort of. Take only defence which you would absolutely need (full glass cannon gear is best if you can handle it) and put everything else in offensive power.
In sPvP there’s no tanks, but bunkers are a huge thing. Your job as a bunker in sPvP is to either capture a point or delay the enemy from capturing a point until your backup arrives. As for how to do that, someone else would have to answer because I’m not too good at sPvP and miiggght end up misleading you.
I’m not too familiar with how WvW works because I get headaches from playing it.
Ok. But its completely worthless for PVE since you won’t be doing dmg, wont be helping heal or support your allies via boons and such, and you won’t even be able to take the heat off of them because there are no aggro mechanics in this game. So why exactly do you want to do this?
“in the other game I survived almost everything” . Survived against what ? For what purpose????
I don’t see how you can survive something without killing it .
Want to be an invincible tank? Press your dodge key, it’s negates infinitely more damage than any amount of toughness or vitality will.

In Dark Souls, I ran the heaviest, sturdiest armor and shield along with the war pick because it’s a war pick.

I’ve never played dark souls, but thats not how this game works. There is absolutely 0 point in being tanky in gw2. Different games are different :/
In PvE you don’t need more than your base armor. Just be aware of attack animations, strafe, and dodge and you should have no problem. For PvE you want be running full dps (Berserker Armor/Trinkets/Weapons) as soon as possible. You can use a couple “tanky” pieces (Soldiers/Knights) in the beginning to help get the feel for it, but you don’t want to get too comfortable with it. Its only in WvW/PvP where you want to spec into Defense for extra survivability and condition removal (Dogged March+Cleansing Ire).

It really depends. For example, I prefer to use Cleansing Ire+Dog for Mai Trin, because damage doesn’t matter that much during the fight and Cleansing Ire helps a lot in dealing with her condi spam so you can stay in the electric zone more.
