Guild Wars 2

I’m coming back into GW2, I have warrior and Ranger on lvl 80, I wonder if Ranger has become any better in WvWvW over the past couple years and with the new expansion.

I also don’t do buff builds on my warrior, I’m a pure killing machine on all my characters.

Both can be highly mobile damage platforms, and you can make a go of roaming using either the new elite or old vanilla specs. Really depends on the style of play you prefer, from what I can see.

I see more competent high damage warrior roamers out there than ranger, but I dueled a skilled vanilla ranger roamer just last night, so it’s possible. Most rangers just go lazy tank druid though.

I’m not sure about blob fighting though. My guess is lb ranger has more to offer there.

I’m biased, because I’ve far more PvP time clocked on my warrior than on my ranger, but for roaming at least warrior seems more dangerous and harder to take down. When on my warrior there isn’t a single individual class I’m afraid to engage, while my ranger has more mixed luck- funnily enough, warriors being probably the hardest thing to fight on him. That said, Ranger is no slouch either.

Can’t speak for blob fighting, because I tend to avoid it for the most part.

rangers are pretty much unwanted class in wvw blobbing right now, warriors however are always welcome.

Again, I’ve never done it, but wouldn’t a pew pew ranger be valuable in the mid-line of a zerg? In fact, wouldn’t a sub-squad of them be amazing for picking off an enemy’s driver and back line?

No, right now wvw blob meta is melee trains, even eles are forced into playing melee weapons right now, nobody wants staff ele in a semi competitive wvw squad.

Melee trains would destroys rangers in few seconds.

right now is boon share meta with aoe condi bomb ranged.

only reason people still think its melee meta is because most guilds are still upgrading to boon share meta with lots of condition pressure

Most? Try all druids go full tank and let the broken HoT pets do all the damage. Basically they are your condi mesmers roamers, don’t bother fighting them all they do is let the NPC kill you while outsustaining you by stealthing for days. They’re no different than trolls, ignore em they do nothing try to kill em well die to the NPC not the player itself.

Rangers are not wanted in organized groups in wvw, anything a ranger can do a Rev, ele, warrior can do better. As a matter of fact warriors are also not wanted that being said. Rangers can bring some useful things to the table but if u have a choice between taking rev, ele, warrior over ranger you don’t pick ranger its that simple.

warriors have better AOE cleave and AOE CC than rangers and can actually push with the front line, and REV, and ele have better range and range AOE and support than ranger.

So ranger is literally a terrible pick.

Not even for grace of the land? Burst heal plus grace would make me think Druid can be useful.

I take issue at being called clueless. I specifically mentioned that I tend towards roaming rather than fighting in either blobs or large guild groups, and so my advice was based on my limited WvW experience of roaming on either class. Nor did the OP specify that the question was about fighting in an organized groups. “WvW” is a broad game mode, covering a wide variety of circumstances: solo roaming, small groups of skirmishers, large blob rushes, organized guilds, and so on. Prevas’ comments contributed to the thread by including information about an area that hadn’t yet been touched on, which I personally appreciate. You did the same by comparing the classes’ strengths, albeit with a contempt and arrogance that your point would have been better made without.

Its a trash noob class its simple. And it will never be a great class as long as their pet is counted as half or more than half of their damage. If pets are too strong they get nerfed into the ground and they are already mostly useless due to bad pathing and easy to avoid attacks. That makes the character themself weaker than every other class. Rangers are 2 things. Either easy to kill or can’t kill anyone one by themselfs and only run. That means all you can do is Pew pew from saftey and hope somone does’t gap close you and wreck you. Or run some condis and hope whoever you are fighting isn’t a noob and runs no cleanses.

You’re making a critical mistake in reasoning here though. Your argument makes sense if we’re talking about an spvp team or a dungeon run, but we’re talking about roaming and blobs in wvw and we’re talking about the (potential) ranger’s perspective.

What is better for a particular role will have no bearing on whether or not he’s able to do either thing because he’ll always be able to roam and he’ll always be able to fight in a large group. The only question is whether he’ll have more fun playing warrior or ranger.

The OP asked which of the two classes he should use in wvw. The correct answer is whichever he enjoys most because both will do fine in wvw.
