I’ll be honest when it comes to MMO’s I’ve been around but I’ve never been able to be a “hard core” player due to family and other responsibilities. That being said I’ve been away from this game for some time and I’d like to get back into doing some WvW. I’d like to be as use full as I can so I have started reading some guids and such. But one thing I’m hung up on is the guides are helpful in saying that you need X gear and X weapon and X amulet etc in order to get your damage or crit to where you need it. But how do I start to figure out exactly how to go about acquiring the gear and trinkets. I do not want to spend real life money on gems so I’d prefer to have to either farm gold, or do dungeons, etc to try and get the pieces. If anyone has any advice for an old lvl 80 war that is trying to improve his play I’d greatly appreciate it!

You can buy the exotic armor and weapons you need with Badges and a little bit of gold – so just go participate in WvW, earn the badges (and gold) then go to the Armor/Weapon Master in your Citadel and buy what you need. The only thing beyond that are the ascended jewelry items, which will cost you Laurels and either gold or Globs of Ecto (which you can get by salvaging rare and exotic items).

If you want ascended armor or weapons, you will need to craft them unless there is another method for getting them that I don’t know.

So, tl;dr, go fight and use the spoils to buy what you need – for the most part.

Thanks for the info. I looked at my wallet last night and think I had 139 badges on me. Not much gold so I’ll just get out there and fight like you said.

Is there much different stat wise in ascended armor compared to exotic? I love the idea of making my own but the reality is I don’t know if I’ll ever get to the point in crafting. Maybe I could try. But may be easier to just go for the exotic stuff.

U can buy zerker gear with karma from temple of grenth in curesed shore as well. You can also gets some rares and run COF dungeon till you got enough tokens.
