This is an advice thread, not a “whine” thread.

Since free tournaments were designed with premade parties of five in mind, there are a couple things you should know after you queue for one as a solo player. Once the game has put you into a party of five players, if one leaves, you will get the “waiting for a full roster” status.

When this happens, check to see if you are the party leader. If you are, you can just click the options symbol above your party roster and choose “submit roster” again. Then, the game will look for another single-queue player to fill your party to five. THE GAME WILL NOT FILL YOUR PARTY TO FIVE UNLESS THE PARTY LEADER CHOOSES “SUBMIT ROSTER” A SECOND TIME. Again, this is not a complaint—the game mode was designed for full parties—it is just something players should know.

If you are not the party leader, wait for a bit to see if your designated leader re-submits your roster. If they don’t, you are probably best off to leave the queue and go back to the tournament master to re-queue.

I’m pointing this out because I’ve seen so many people say that free tournaments are “dead” or it takes half an hour to get one to pop. I’ve never had to wait longer than maybe 6-8 minutes in USA primetime, so perhaps some people are getting stuck with a roster of four people, not knowing the mechanic with which free tournaments were designed.

tl;dr? You can speed up your solo free tournament queue time by knowing the way the system works.

Cool, glad it was helpful. I’m still seeing plenty of posts that say “tourneys never pop” so I’m assuming there are still quite a few people who aren’t aware of this.
