Spvp destiny. An important message
I’ll save you all the anticipation, here is your post:
“Hello all, sorry for the lack of responses here, but the team has been away for the Holidays. We are back now and although we can’t tell you exactly what is happening, just know that we hear you all and we are currently pushing for a big PvP patch in the future that will bring big changes that I think you will all be VERY excited about.”
Then, February will hit and here will be the PvP changes:
- Changed Ranger underwater downed skill 2 from 2 second CD to 3 second CD
- Changed Warrior underwater Speargun skill 3 to be more in line with other classes 3 skill for underwater
- Added a new animation to the Tiger Finisher
- Updated /rank to be more visible in crowded areas
- Removed the .25 CD on mesmer shatters and now added Mind Wrack to cause Burning as well.

You forgot about the most important part:
“The big update incoming soon”
I’m not calling you a liar, but are you able to provide evidence to verify such a statement?
I’m not calling you a liar, but are you able to provide evidence to verify such a statement?
just wait few hours and you will see
The problem is not as much at the top, as it is at the bottom. sPvP aren’t losing players because the top players are leaving, as much it’s losing players because there aren’t any new players coming into it.
For the love of everything that is good; remove 8v8 from sPvP, and make a proper match up system for casual 5v5. There is nothing structured about 8v8. It’s a zerg fest, and for no good reason. All it does is give new players a false impression of what sPvP is like. Then, make ladder, matchmaking, and spectator mode. And then work on making sPvP, not only interesting to play, but also interesting to watch. Make people love sPvP, even if they don’t like playing it. Celebrate the top tPvP players and promote them, so new sPvP players have someone they can look up to, and aspire to become as good as.
You should work for Anet in the PVP development team. Once they form one.
Thats true, and as every other aspect of this game, spvp need something to motivate ppl to win, if you wanna see more ppl playing it a good reason is needed.
You might say fun is enough a good reason, yeh i would agree, but its a good reason for first day, for the first week… but not much longer.
In spvp i think layering is the key. As many other stated if new ppl gets to fight against experienced players they’ll get killed so easily that they will just give up quickly.
So i agree on removing hot join 8v8 as it is now, and implement a layered system:
0 – custom arenas to let ppl train there.
1 – free torunaments: no fee, matchmaking system, little reward at the end
2 – paid tournament: 3 ticket per player, some gems for winners as it is now
3 – weekly torunament: 20 tickets to get in, more gems won.
4 – monthly torunament: 60 tickets to get in, lot more gems won.
5 – champion of the year: 150 tickets to get in, uber prize and players names written on the stone
add some new game modes other than point cap and we’ll see way more ppl playing.

ahahahaha amazing
Because Jonathan knows more about what we are doing with PvP, and because we don’t say we are doing X until we are 100% doing it or else we get a lot of you said X, I wants it NOW!!!
So in short, we wants to know:
1) When do u going to start ladder games.
2) When do u going to remove tournaments and start normal daily AT’s.
3) When can we see new maps.
4) When are u going to put observ.
5) When are u going to inform all pple in the same moment about PvP changes, dont split pple like in gw1, “top” teams have forum and know ~half year faster what going to be changes and other pple know it in the day of update or from friends from tk.
6) When are u going to respect pple who paid for this game, u demand respect but dont respect each others.I think its enough for begin, do it what i wrote and then except respect from pple, who bought this game for PvP not PvE or WvWvW.
You bought the PvP box set? With extra emphasis on the PvP? …. C’mon now, don’t be silly. Whatever your personal reason is for buying the game, it didn’t have to cost you any more or any less than anyone else and you didn’t end up with any more or any less of a game regardless how much of it you desire to play.
JP has it right, and your numbered list is a prime example. Too many people crying, “You said [X] and I want my [X] NOWW!!!!ONEONEONE” This is why we don’t get info until nearly the last minute. It is about building community respect. They don’t want to continue to “fail” in our eyes by promising the world and delivering nothing (which is why I wonder how politicians still get elected with that strategy).
Any person who has worked a day in their life understands that these guys don’t just sit down at their desk each morning, wave the “Magic Wand of Change” over the keys, and then get up to have a coffee. All changes that go through the game span multiple levels of the company in an effort to create the best situation for the players. They take this stuff so seriously that they have “Balance Meetings” … its their JOB. They make money when they do it right, so they want to get it right the first time.
I’d rather be missing a feature for a relatively short period of time instead of having something that is so broken that every single patch changes something about it to the point where you just give up that it’s ever going to work properly and you lose all faith in Anet’s ability to do anything in proper form.

I agree, they’re cutting things close here…but as I’ve said in other posts, their main issue was the release date being so close to the NA holiday season with big plans in mind.
They still have many features outside of PvP to implement and it looks like WvW will be the first go-round in Feb.
Redscope, i think you are going off topic.. I understand ur point of view, but u seems not to be a old gw1 player..
Gw1 players are the most experienced pvp people of the world ( iam talking about spvp right now), and i understand ur point of view but, please let ex gw1 players saying what this game needs essentially. For example, is fundamental have a ladder, and the best way to use it is a single 5v5 matchmaking match.
So let’s wait Jonathan Sharp reply, that’s what i asked for by doing this topic.
Why is everyone expecting a big announcement today? People write about it but I cant find it being officially stated anywhere? Please link the info.
Anyway, it will be a break patch because they wont be able to make enough updates in time. It’s still an unfriendly game for a casual to play. All my friends bought the game and all left and we just made a team. I find it hard that anything in this game will bring my friends back so what will I do on my own? Then we need possibility to progress on your own like the big pvp games out there, and that don’t seem to happen soon and is what will make the pvp in this game appealing to a larger crowd.
But well, lets hear what the man has to say… but I seriously think that as a solo player or with just one bro around to play with… continuing the break from the game for longer time is what’s happening. Hopefully give us reason to come back, if we cant solo compete… at least add more map options for hotjoin… wont appeal to a larger crowd but will make the game a bit more amusing for the casuals that do choose to play this game.
I’ll save you all the anticipation, here is your post:

*Overhaul of Keg Brawl Map with addition of 3 new modes of play for Keg Brawl

Cloak and Dagger now grants 5 stacks of might, 10 second duration…
Followed by the “yeah this build is wicked strong” comment
Also, one more suggestion, although a bit off topic I guess. It would be great if you could recreate district system, at least in the way that teams from Europe can always come to NA, and vice versa. That would enrich current competitive scene at least for a short period of time, and it would be interesting to see teams that are currently bashing each other actually prove their words in the arena.

Hahahaha, I can’t stop laughing! You are a king!
this thread is just a giant whine, bordering on insulting now. youre not saying anything new or constructive. obviously, we will shift away from tournaments. custom arenas will allow for custom matchups, and that in itself will bring a lot of people back. rankings, even more.
and spvp isnt really any worse off than a few months ago. tpvp is, likely due to a crappy meta, but there are still two dozen spvp games at any given time. there isnt really a deadline till doom, as many of you are suggesting. you may want to leave personally, but you’ll be back for sure.
Its refreshing to hear ppl looking for honest feedback. and information.
Its annoying to read trolls who contribute nothing.
I hope he responds to the geniune good faith constructive feedback and ignores some of you -_-.

No its not a giant whine. U are the only one over 6k visitors, who thinks im whining.
Let’s go back in topic. JS we are still waiting for you
All they’re adding are some balance changes and 2 new maps (one of which is moba style). Not sure what exactly they’ll do with those maps.

two dozen? golly jeez. thats a whole 384 players worldwide pvping assuming all full 16 man games. what a thriving population, pvp sounds full of life, im sold.
point is, it’s not dead or different from a few months ago.
point is, it’s not dead or different from a few months ago.
384 during primetime for an entire region is shut down worthy if pve population wasnt there to carry it.
point is, it’s not dead or different from a few months ago.
Well, one big difference is number of players and dedicated teams, so it does make things worse now than back then.
well as i said, no1 wants to play tourneys because the meta sucks. spvp is doing just fine. mind you, it’s not growing, but it will with Feb’s patch.
And meta sucks because it’s limited by game type. Why would anyone use anything other than extreme builds, which work the best for this game type?
As I’ve already said in topic about GW1 HA, the reason you see so many small groups in WvWvW is because they are looking for something that would let them use whatever build they want, be it burst, bunker, something balanced, or whatever. You can see people coming up with all sorts of crazy, innovative builds, that actually work in that kind of environment, which is just fighting to death(talking about small groups here only), but they are not working in tPvP because of it’s limiting game mode, which basically supports only bunkers and tanks.
There are very few viable balanced builds in tPvP, if any, so whole PvP thing just becomes repetitive and boring to hell, without any need for customization and experimenting. If you would add some secondary objectives to arenas resembling WvWvW, I guarantee that it’d attract so many players to this game, whether those are new, old ones that left, or those enjoying in their PvE and WvWvW experience.
Again, this is not whining, I’m just basically suggesting what I think would be the road to success.

I could understand that post 2-3 months ago or in the beta weekend, but not now. From my old “true” HSR ALL PPLE left, from sec team all pple left, now 2 pple think about quit this game, because its borring.
Do you think that all pple are patient like u? Atm after ban my guard cause of expliot i cant find any polish guard, great idiea lets wait another half year, srs. Afer this half year ull play this game alone, or wait, ull quit faster… Anet doesnt buy present for pple who talk nice about them.
JS told that he can take more pple for pvp updates if he ask, so its a time for this, or pple will remmember him as guy who destroyed PvP.
I bought mostly gw2 cause of great pvp in gw1. Probably with other name this game i never gonna buy it like 60% other pple. ITS GUILD WARS 2 continuation!!!! NOT new game…
Dota => Dota 2
SC => SC2
or(u can always destory the game)
Settlers 4 => Settlers 5
Far Cry => Far Cry 2
Srs, Its not time for talk gj anet when pple quit! Latter ull cry im fight only vs the same oponent…
(edited by S H A K U R AS.9536)
Still No response from ANET I see. How disappointing…but I figured they wouldn’t since they are not serious about this game anymore.
Give 1 more day.. I hope in tuesday
Quit flamewar, and reread this!

Hey guys,
Just to help provide some clarity on this, we’ll be releasing within the next couple of weeks a high level summary of our big plans for the first half of 2013 to help provide more transparency into our plans with the game going forward. This will include providing more details about our goals for the game, information about the stories and features that you’ll see in the Jan/Feb/March releases.
To set expectations accordingly, the January release will be a relatively small release that sets the table for the stories and features we plan to roll out with the Feb/March releases and beyond. Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible which is absolutely a good thing , ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided. In saying this will be an expansions worth of stuff in these releases, we’re talking about the number of new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013, which usually you’d only find in an expansion for a traditional MMORPG.
More details and specifics to come in the next couple of week Than just wait for it from now on, but I hope that helps provide some more insight into what to expect at a very high level.
So I suggest we wait for information and than see what the updates bring until march.
If “WE” are not satisfied then we leave for example GW1 or wait for TITAN.
I agree so much with the facts of this post. I hope this continues to get bumped.
Also hope that spvp will someday reach the caliber of what GW1 pvp was like. Right now it feels like an enormous downgrade.
Maybe I just loved the “build wars” part of it all that will likely never happen in this game because it has less flexibility. Maybe part of it is that…

Well, even though we choose many less skills individually, the trait system in GW2 actually gives a lot of possibilities for different builds. The problem is the current game mode is holding it back.
I would LOVE to be useful as a Guardian as specs other than bunker, but after the first month of the game they honestly fell off. Guardian spike specs, for example, are kitten fun, but they don’t have the mobility to be a roamer so they are fairly useless. And have fun trying to get a competitive team to let you come with that spec…. Same with Guardian sig specs and spirit weapons. They would all be sooo useful, if it wasn’t for the game mode… But those spec’s just don’t contribute to defending or capping control points.
I’m a “build junkie” and that’s how I felt with so many builds for every class. They are just overshadowed by the ones that do best in this game mode. It’s a shame…. People don’t even realize the potential of the trait system. And most people never will unless we get more mode variety
And once again I COMPLETELY agree with the above sentiments that GW2 PvP needs to be more like GW1. Why not stick to a successful formula and then try adding all these new features on top of it? Instead of trying a new experimental formula that hasnt been working good so far?
Imagine if the Coke and pepsi companies removed both of their flagship formulas and forced one of their random new formulas as their only option? The stocks would dive bomb…
Sure that’s not a perfect comparison and we can all go back to GW1 if we wanted, but the game is dated now and after many of the improvements of the combat system I can’t go back.
I just wish for GW2 PvP to be “Guild Wars PvP” again. The best MMO PvP in the business… From the small arenas to HoH to GvG, it had something for all players, and this gathered a huge PvP population. I don’t see why they would not want to re-create the same success here?
Game just needs a TDM mode that is 2v2 or 3v3. You can solo/ duo que agai st others that do the same, or team que into other teams. Balance will sort itself out, re assess it in 3 months.
if they dont wanna split up the player base, just take out conquest. or give us the option to use the maps for DM, i.e. disable control points and countdown. very, very simple to do.
rtnieuwboer.6071: getting error when trying to quote you, but can you tell source to that statement? Cant find it in any place a player should be able to find it.
Even if it was true, it smells more like pve to me… making the world worth visiting and stuff… we know the story. And yesterdays big announcement overall seems to be some hoax made up gossip… stop doing that players, why not add source before claiming stuff like that?
Also I think many people already left, there are more games than GW1 and waiting for titan… also titan might be world of diablo and dont know if that makes me overwhelmly excited :P Planetside2 is my pvp game atm, really enjoyable. But being a purple vanu is as close to a pink asura you can get so I want my cute fix and I like gw2 combat and mesmers (could use more spec options to them though) and I hope something will be happening. So far the players spread rumours that the devs one day will talk to us and very little is out officially in what to expect… so seems like continuing taking a break, read patch ones they hit and take it from there.
I also think many people writing in this forum isnt playing anymore, but owning the game means they can write in here so it’s not a “dont quit, wait a little”, more like “wait, perhaps there will be reasons for you to come back”
I really think GW2 will never be e-sport (or not in near future). I look at classes balance, i read what “casuals” (no offence) write in topics (especially about thieves) and what devs do with it. If they will not change direction from “satisfy casuals expectations”, game will become more “easy to learn” than “hard to master”. More faceroll, less improvisation – it is not what i want to see in competitive game.
Also, they make more arenas with randoms, it is not a challenge for serious players. Or they just want to test ours patience, how long we can endure theirs… emm… not smart moves.
I bet this thread gets locked before it gets answered.
I wanna new spvp maps and new modes – CTF, escort dolyak, deathmatch, king of the hill (one resource point), zombiepanic, etc. =)
Stopped playing myself for close to a week now and don’t really feel any desire to come back.
I still check the forums though to see if there is any news (did the same with d3 even after i quit long ago). Probably stop checking these forums regularly as well since there’s basically no responses or news.
I would also like a lane mode like in lol where u got some progression within the match. I also think the matches don’t last long enough, i would like to have atleast 1 mode where it’s only 1 match not 3 and the match lasts for approx 20 minutes.
My net is down so I also haven’t played in a week and a bit. I really miss playing, but when I stopped free tournaments had a hour long que after 10pm and not much better before 10pm. I’m worried that when I get back a free tourney won’t pop at all.
Don’t worry. It’s not that hard to get into a free tourney. In fact, I was able to play multiple tourneys on monday afternoon with a max waiting queue of three mins. In Eu though I have no idea of how the situation is in the us. Been having a lot of lag though lately and I know I am not the only one. Anet should fix that asap.
In addition, i would like to say that if paid tourny in europe pop at 8pm til 23/24 pm, people who play during the day are disadvantaged. Is a bad thing that you can play competitive only for 4 hours during the evening only..
One more addition, i can play 2 hours in the evening, but my queue is very long and in the end i could play only 2 paid instead of 3 ( 1 tourn=40 mins, 40×3=120mins= 2 hours) that’s something deeply wrong!!!!!
JS listen to my starting post.
lol @ spvp. “esport”. money maker? heh. what happened to all the hype about anet being a community building company? that more than anything else, they wanted to make a game for people to have fun playing instead of spending time getting ready to have fun? the gw1 vets here are correct. this game mode is a kitten shame, and jon sharp should be demoted to refilling the water cooler. what a kittenup.
They “respect” u like they did it before. But tell sth bad about them, and they will ban u.

Same for me. Haven’t played since Xmas and not missing it. Not even a bit.
When I think I almost bought a new PC for that crap. But the worst is that I’m still secretly hoping it gets fixed one day. But they seem sooooooooooooooo far from that point.

Continue to bump this thread, maybe something will happen
I would love to hear something too, but d*mn if you all don’t sound like a lynch mob already…
Reading these posts, I wouldn’t want to respond. Quit being little girls.
And who in their right mind actually thought GW1 kept its player base 6 months down the line? Are you kidding me? That game was the biggest ghost town I’d ever seen.
To Anet: Honestly if you want to give these kids what they want, the horizontal gear progression is the wrong way to go. By all means, keep SPVP the same for ppl like me who enjoy pvp and hot joining, with access to the best gear in the game. But for PVE and W3, you need to provide a lasting “end game” gear grind to these ppl. Its want they want, what they need to feel like their video game life means something.
Nope, not at all. GW1 kept its player base for much longer that mere 6 months. Nobody’s asking for gear and whatnot, because that’s not what makes an e-sport they were advertising this game would be, but current PvP lacks in several fields, and if you don’t see it, you are either blind, or a fan boy, or even both. One of the proofs would be empty mists. Another one is that there is basically no community support left, almost nobody is streaming, making videos and guides, there are no podcasts, and this game had it all during beta weekends and first few weeks since its release.
Most of the people are giving suggestions of how to improve current situation, aside from a few latest posts, which should get deleted anyway, because they have nothing to do with discussion being held here.
I also like to be up to date with what’s coming but it’s also understandable that you can’t leak out possibly false information just like what happened at Diablo 3. They promised pvp and stuff what everybody was looking forward to and now a year later they just simply cancelled it and got thousands of angry people knocking at their door.
and please bring back random arena’s by the way :p
