A new problem. Player tag clutter.
Yes, first and foremost a HUGE thanks for the culling fix, WvW is now so much better!
But I agree, a new problem appears to be screen clutter. Basically, this stems from the long incognito player names, and the titles.
For the latter, the solution is simple. Simply remove titles from the screens, or give an option that allows us to uncheck it.
For the former…regarding long incognito player names [Crystal Desert Invader, ect), the solution would be either to allow an abbreviation option that players can check off—-if they so desire:
Crystal Desert Invader [GUIL] —-> CD Invader [GUIL]
This example here, by simply abbreviating the Crystal Desert to CD, essentially cuts the clutter for this particular name in half. Now multiple this across a zerg, where there are 40 players, and our screens would become so much more easier on the eyes!

Definitely agree with abbreviating all server names in the titles.
Need an option to disable pet nameplates.
i think a nice simple
SOR [guil]
also maybe just color the tag the same as there server color
i.e blue is blue
or just red, green, blue Invader that blob of text is annoying
please remove text from pets also, few rangers and Necro by self generate a lot
ah but what about mesmer clones ?
There should perhaps be a way to set the opacity of the names/titles that appear as well.
Fort Aspenwood
how about this. no names, no titles, just blue/green/red health bar according to what server players belong?
This isn’t new, the clutter in WvW even with culling was messy.
One big BIG thing they should be doing is scaling the tag based upon distance. Right now it doesn’t matter if a player is 10m or 100m away the text is the same size… scaling the text size down based upon range would get rid of so much of that clutter straight away, as well as giving you the immediate visual information in team fights of the ranges of what is around you.
Secondly. This game shows the tags of pets/neutrals. Got to go.
Then a variety of customization would be nice for disabling titles/guildnames etc.
This visual noise makes the game unplayable. It was bad before with the whole server name above enemy heads.
If I was going to redesign the tags I would color the tags based on the server color rather than hostility, shorten the server name to say |BG| for Blackgate, and then put the player’s rank in the middle.
So it would just say |BG|Recruit[TAG] in a color based on the server’s color.
Obviously you would have to get rid of green and red as server colors, and replace it with bright orange and maybe magenta or fuchsia
Most servers already have abbreviations on the forums which would help. Also dropping the Invader part would be nice as well so we basically see something like
JQ [GLD]
You can’t drop invader, that’s the whole point of the rank system.

Both of these, so much. Scaling tags would help so much and getting rid of pet tag clutter too.
I personally want just a Red/Blue/Green (depending on thier color code) arrow pointing at their heads.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

Except the red and green in this game look identical to anyone red\green colorblind (most common at 8% of men) like myself. How about Red\Blue\Yellow….
- Blackgate
Red/Blue/Green Invader should work fine, but I agree, something needs to be done. The visual noise is very irritating

Again, I think that just like people can display their Titles, WvW Ranks should be the same.
I too think the abbreviated server name and guild tag is all that is needed, and all player need to know. If they want to know their WvW Rank each player should have an option to turn that on or off, and same with Titles.
Keep the info short, sweet and to the point, as all servers run in zergs ther ereally is no point giving full into on every single player, that’s why we now have this tagging clutter.

WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.
Just use binds for targeting (next / closest / previous). At least this cluster now shows you how many enemies you have to fight, as opposed to seeing five names over three toons in front of an invisible zerg of forty.
remove the name tags and just have color (red/blue/green) arrow icon point at their head
I also think be able to see name tag far away is another problem. Now it’s too easy to detect players. Name tag should only appear when distance is close enough. (not too close though)
Just have titles appear (under names) on whoever you have selected at the time. That way you can only ever see one title on the screen no matter how many players are around.
In fact this would even help with identifying your target in a crowd a little more.

This is the title solution, I can’t appreciate the titles of 40 people charging anyway.
The best solution i’ve found is to AOE into them until they thin out and it looks much less cluttered.
Bump because something needs to be done about this ASAP
Weird when tags are a higher priority than the toons themselves. Oft I see just tags running around till the toons eventually appear. But I guess it’s for practical purposes. Nonetheless, yes I agree with the OP. The tags are way too long.

tags like chat, should remain in one’s server sight.
Always Loyal
Agreed! In my opinion, the best solution would be to only display the title of your target. Further abbreviations of server names would also be welcome, as well as scaling of name size based upon distance.
Last night was absolute mayhem when everyone logged into WvW to try out the changes…you couldn’t see a thing with the text from large zergs obscuring everything.
You’re already able to turn off tags for friendly and/or enemy players; though that leaves “Team Colours” the only way to determine which server, and is only effective at much closer distance.

That is part of the “no culling” design. The tag never culls, but the character model can still not be loaded yet.
Anyway… I’d say shorten the name to just server. Dont need defender or invader, it doesnt matter. If we’re on our own borderland we bloody well know they’re all invaders. This name should also be about 2 points smaller than the guild tag, and fade with distance. It should just barely be visible at max range. Titles only display on targetted characters. For friendlies, a similar thing is done but of course the name is kept.

Geez that screenshot speaks volumes. Please do something about this.

That screenshot is nothing. Watch this video posted by XxX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPhilVadk5M set to 720p or 1080p then skip to 6:06 into the video, unless you want to watch the entire thing.
Now that’s an infestation! And this is T4, the pest controllers must be rolling in it in T1.

IMO it’s always been too easy to detect players (when they were not culled) because of the nameplate. It’s silly that you can’t hide behind an object unless it’s 10-15 feet wide because of your nameplate sticking out. IMO if the player’s body can’t be seen due to an obstruction, the nameplate shouldn’t be visible either.
Option to remove pet nameplates is an excellent idea.
I’d also like titles to show up on hover (like the map completion star), that way people can still show them off, but they’re not cluttering.
name tags are horizontal, toons are vertically oriented.
Which guy was unidentifiable on the first ss?
perhaps if you wanted less clutter, take the XXX server invader red banner off
make the title line less opaque, but that will make fighting some classes (pets, clones) harder…
it’s fine the way it is. you don’t need to click when zerging. If the engagement was smaller, they wouldn’t be in the way.

I want this so badly.
Oh come on.. Name clutter is there to actually show you how many people there are.
I dont really care about it, imo it would be worse just seeing abbreviations.
I like the suggestion proposed by Xonal though, would be a neat feature
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
I proposed a change to this in the suggestion thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/newtopic
put circles above players heads, not long names and titles.
youtube
I would be happy with just having enemies have their guild tag above their head in the color of their server. That would be the best.
Agreed!
First add an option to turn the titles of players on/off. I’m talking about the “Master Crafter” and such titles. Then abbreviate the server name. That should do wonders for the clutter.
Update today and still no fix!
U jelly of my combat healer title.

Will this ever happen?
Its been 1 year. What do you think?
No!!! Quit digging up old posts and go play the game in all its Glory…
Glory was removed from the game before the big feature patch
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.
Tags maybe need some changes (i’m ok with them actually)
But do not
=totally remove tags. Rank, guild etc provides fast info about enemie. IF we could make rank shorter (maybe some symbols for each category – bronze 1 star, silver 2 stars as army got etc), server name as abreviation is good idea (IN OPTIONS).
