Camera Tool exploit
I believe this is still fair. Defenders should always have an advantage. If they can be AoE’ed and destroyed so easily, then defenders will have a much much harder time holding their own stuff. I main my mesmer so I can pretty much never hit anything on the walls after the line of sight nerf to the phantasms. I still think its fair for the defender.
Not exploit… you have the camera of your character, not in siege weapon, you can place it wherever you want, if you can’t touch me, i can’t touch the door…

To clarify I am talking about the downloadable addon that people are using to zoom out a large distance from their character and hit any palce at any angle with arrow carts.
Hi everyone,
Offski, could you provide some info about the mentioned addon? Like name and function so we can forward the issue to the team and see if they can deal with it.
Also, as stated always, whenever you feel someone is making use of bots or hacks, please report them so we can identify them and investigate.
Thanks in advance

Are you not still limited by the range of the arrow cart?
Well the mesmer portal has infinite vertical height range so maybe it’s sort of like that?

Still the main thing is it’s not a camera option in game, but a different way to bypass game mechanics. Things like that shouldn’t be allowed.

The “fix” for this should be to allow full camera control as an organic option, just like the “fix” for the combat mode add-on is to implement a locked crosshair option.
Not even sure if its an add on.
1-2 weeks back I took an arrow gun and all of a sudden I had a HUGE camera range without downloading anything or changing anything in options.
Thought it was a buff Anet implanted. But when I relogged and tried again it was gone.

This.
The ability to hit something with a siege weapon should be determined by that weapon’s reach and projectile trajectory, not by awkward camera positioning.
And any falling projectiles should have infinite range downwards (it doesn’t make any sense for arrows / meteors / whatever to not hit enemies near the wall of your keep just because the caster is on top of a high wall – if the enemies are under the arrows, the arrows should keep falling until they hit something, obviously while losing horizontal speed, so they don’t have infinite reach).
After participating in the Mad King event my camera angle would often be locked in “wide” mode, so that I could zoom out nearly twice as far as normal. It only reset when I completely closed the game and logged back in. I imagine this 3rd-party tool is essentially allowing for the same type of thing, which is very advantageous in WvW – not just for arrow carts.

This would explain how someone was able to use their arrow cart from inside the South East tower in the middle of the tunnel. We had built catapults in an area that was known to be unreachable by siege and somehow a defender was able to target their arrow cart dead center on all that siege and players inside the tunnel. We couldn’t move anywhere in that tunnel without being hit.

There is also a hack out there that auto targets the largest grouping of enemies and isn’t affected whatsoever by line of sight, and is reported to even have a longer range. I’ve mailed the link to Anet, I won’t be stupid enough to post the link here though like the guy earlier in this topic.

Thks for pointing that out Dank, was a bit daft, but I genuinely thought the majority knew about this tool as it is obvious alot guilds use it. I was also a bit astonished that Anet did not know about it as it has been around for months.
Arrow carts placed in courtyards can legitimately target rams and such by aiming the at the gate and you’ll hit anything on the other side of it as well, just like catapults can. If that’s what the OP is talking about.

The mod is called GW2 Camera Tool it was created by the same person (-M-) who made gZoom (fly, teleport, no-clip, etc (and the features of the GW2 Camera Tool)) the camera tool was made to allow non-exploiters to increase their FoV. gZoom needs to be addressed more than the Camera Tool.
Features:
Increase FoV
1st person mode
Increased Zoom out distance
The problem being discussed is that (especially in regards to arrow carts as there is no LoS issue) with the mod you can zoom out more and as such aim better. You are still restricted by range etc.
I would actually like Anet to add more camera options in (and fix the camera collision detection), but whatever I also wanted an option for a CM like feature.
My engineer just got hit by a ground targeted lava font elementalist skill from 200-300 safely behind the gate when i was being ressed. Please find a way to ban this camera tool.
HoT = WvW players forced to PVE
For some people who aren’t understanding how a camera tool would affect arrow carts:
In order to protect carts from people attacking the walls, they’re usually built on the far inside portion of the wall. In order to fire an arrow cart, you must both be in range of the target and able to place your targeting cursor on the spot you want to hit. But when you’re on the inside of the wall, oftentimes you’re blocked by the wall itself or other terrain. For example, in Wildcreek, arrow carts placed towards the east or west walls have an extremely difficult time targeting directly in front of the gate because the camera’s zoom does not go out sufficiently far to see the ground in the area. It’s well within your range, but you can’t target the terrain because the walls block your view of the ground.
This doesn’t only affect siege either. Because of the arc on Cluster Bomb (Thief shortbow skill), if you can get your camera to cooperate enough, you can fire into towers or other “inaccessible” places. For example, by standing on the slight hill to the east of Ogrewatch, a thief (or presumably an ele or other non-LoS targeting skill user) can fire into Ogrewatch because they can target the top of the wall instead of the outside.

Lava Font is a skill that requires line of sight, so either there was an Ele on the wall that hit you or you were near the gate so the AoE would still affect you. Nothing to do with the camera exploit.
Same thing happened to me during Mad king event. I did the dungeon and then I went to WvW and I had great camera distance from my character. I was so happy Anet made that change when I asked other people they told be they don’t have any difference in their camera distance. When I relog it was gone to normal distance. I think camera should have better distance our skills already have a range limit so what’s the point of having so short cam distance. On the other hand anybodu using 3rd party program to abuse this should be banned.

I think it’s fair. Defending team should have some advantage over the attacking team. If anything they need to give more things to the defending side to make WvW more interesting.
Some skills STILL don’t need line of sight to cast, so more camera zoom would break the game more than it is already broken.
Darxio – Thief Commander
To be completely honest I have used GW Camera Tool months ago. Simply because of the fact that I hate how little we can zoom out our cameras. I never thought of using it as an exploit for non LoS skills but that makes sense. I have deleted it from my PC after ANet decided to attempt to address FoV, although they still didn’t allow an ample amount of zooming, I have since gotten used to it and, especially now that I can see how it can negatively impact the game, will begin reporting players who are OBVIOUSLY exploiting in this fashion.
I think that perhaps removing the non-LoS capabilities of skills might be a viable fix, maybe then ANet will allow us to zoom out farther to keep people from using this mod.
Like I said, I am formally coming forward to state that I have (months ago when I was still getting used to GW2) used this tool. Yet I haven’t used it in a long time. If it helps the developers to figure out a way to stop it, GW Camera tool attaches itself to the running process of GW2 locally. Perhaps adding some form of anti-cheat protection might resolve this issue. I wish everyone luck and happy reporting.
P.S. I am going to look and see if I can find the website that these two mod/exploits are hosted and email them to the devs for further scrutiny.
P.P.S. I sincerely hope that my honesty doesn’t bite me in the kitten as I have ceased to use this forever ago.

How is it fair? They are using camera exploits just because they are defending doesn’t mean crap. How would you like it if i as an attacker flew inside your keep and killed your siege?
You know rather than using an anti-cheat protection, maybe setup some form of process checking that if anything attaches itself to the process it force closes the game.
I really don’t have any idea on how to better identify the exploiters. Open to suggestions here :-/
Hi!
Please send all information you have about this to exploits@arena.net so that we can investigate it.
Thanks for your help.
