is it just me, or free server transfer is REALLY killing wvw and makes it unstable, for an example when server #1 losing to server #4, almost EVERYONE switches to server #4, which makes server #1 has NO CHANCE to win

I chose Henge of Denravi as my server and I never changed. Server used to destroy in WvW then everyone left for who knows what other server.
Rinse and repeat with what ever the new server of the day is.

BRB server transfer dude, now im happy, i won and killed a lot of enemies this week with this new server, a new week came, oh dam we are losing this time ? Server transfers should require a fee and only be allowed once every 30 days. How Anet could possibly think that free transfers once every 24 hrs is even remotely close to a good idea in a game with server vs server PvP is beyond me…..
you also have people from number 4 server who is killing 5 and 6 going to tier 3 just to kitten around.

This dead horse is stinking up the joint and should be removed. I have not been around the last week, but it seems like the jury is still out on this… Which is pretty sad.
too bad Anet are moving to fix things with the speed of garden slug, and not just in regards to this problem, yes problem, skillpoints, events you name it, we all know about it…
I refuse to give up hope just yet tho, for once I would like to be pleasantly surprised when I log into the game i fell in love with in early beta.
What is Anet´s stance regarding the reason for free transfers 2 months into the game? surely it can not still be “population balance” which clearly is out the window when zerg guilds can move around freely between servers…or is it to cover the fact that the total population would be revealed easier? now it´s just different servers each week with the same problem we are talking about, right?
Course free transfers is killing WvW, I cant believe Anet are still letting it happen….Its getting Disgraceful now
Anet should take a look at some FPS games like Battlefield and Unreal Tournament and structure WvsW and server balance like those games but on a larger scale.

Thanks for the link, but we know they are looking into it. They told us they were over a month ago, yet here we are. My server is finally by the stars being perfectly aligned having a decent match-up, but it really is just by chance with the constant population shifts.

I really can’t understand what you mean with this post. Can you type it a little more clearly? I am being serious, because I too find the “We’ll -TALK- about more in the coming months” frightening and funny all in one.

This is a forum to discuss WvW and right now it has a HUGE problem. Don’t reply and bump these threads if you are tired of them, because people are not going to stop talking about it untill it is dealt with. We still don’t even know what they are going to do and when. So stop pretending this issue is fixed.
Edit; for the last bit, no, I did not know that, but that is not the players problem. They should have had some forethought and realized make something competitive people will exploit it anyway they can. Switching to the “winning” server is as simple as exploits can get.

Transfers away from ‘my’ server has hit it hard as well; don’t know what the solution is but if transfers were closed or only ‘top to bottom’ type – it might help.
But to be honest, I think the damage is done now and well – WvW orientated people should be allowed to transfer away from non-WvW orientated servers as I see it. Should just not have been free (but paid) transfers to begin with I think – but well, hindsight is 20/20.
It wasn’t a bump since the thread was active, and now we are having a conversation. There is information out there and now people know the jist of it. There could be more information, and there could be a timeline, but you can’t complain that there has been no response.
Thanks for the info, but a huge damage has been already done to my server and i dont think it can be “UNDONE” unless we work extremely hard for 1 month at least, if a new week started and ANET didn’t fix it by that time then we are doomed so they must hear our voice
I just want to point something out that some people seem to be completely unaware of.
Server transfers are not meant to be free, they are only free for the time being while they get Server Guesting to work properly (aka being able to group with someone from another server and do a dungeon with them and whatnot). Once they do they will make server transfers require gems or a straight payment.

I disagree. Graveyard map capping has much bigger impact on WvW.
Server transferring just needs a once-a-months cooldown. It isn’t transfers that are bad, it is how FREQUENTLY you could transfer.
I feel like there’s almost no reason to try to build up a server community and establish your server in WvW until all the rampant bandwagonning transferring has stopped.
I’ve never seen a system designed to so effectively kill any sense of server identity, community, or cohesion.
You have huge numbers of NA players just transferring around to whichever server has a good off peak player presence.
Transfers away from ‘my’ server has hit it hard as well; don’t know what the solution is but if transfers were closed or only ‘top to bottom’ type – it might help.
Well here’s what transfers from top to bottom can do:
Week of Oct 6-13:
Sanctum of Rall – 210,125
Yak’s Bend – 206,780
Northern Shiver – 206,044
Week of Oct 13-20
Sanctum of Rall – 475,702
Yak’s Bend – 101,471
Gate of Madness – 58,919
That’s what happens when you get a massive influx on a lower server (Sanctum of Rall) from a higher server (I believe it was Henge, but I am not entirely sure – but they transferred TO SoR on the Saturday of last week’s matchup).
The thing is, those SoR players (that have recently just transferred there) could end up on ANY server in 10 minutes if they decided to, and whichever matchup they landed on would suddenly be imbalanced.
Transferring servers should put some sort of cooldown on your ability to queue for WvW. I have no idea what would be appropriate, but what would happen if a big organized group (couple hundred strong) just decided to transfer every single day and take part in 7 different machups every week?
There’s nothing stopping 3 or 4 guilds getting together and deciding to be on Kaineng on Saturday, Borliss Pass on Sunday, Sorrow’s Furnace on Monday, Northern Shiverpeaks on Tuesday, Dragonbrand on Wednesday and Crystal Desert on Thursday, and then on Friday organizing the next week’s rotation.
Been on IoJ since BWE2 and it got more and more people as weeks went by making this server a total mess with queues.
Also it didn’t make tings better at all. WvW has always been and will probably always be a zergy mess no matter how many people are in.
Basically we suffer longer queues without gaining a more fun gaming experience.
Free transfers are simply not working at all. It’s not evening things out it’s populating top servers and making the rest a bunch of deserts.
I support the close of free server transfers.
I support the transfer of free servers to LOWER POP SERVERS. Not low to high. I hate to use the example, but WoW transferred high to low for free. Wanted to move to a higher pop server, pay money.
I’m honestly baffled as to why ANet are refusing to fix this, any good they’re causing by allowing people to play with their friends in PvE is far, far outweighed by the harm they’re causing to WvW, the community is almost universally opposed to free transfers, it’s wreaking chaos on server balance and the ranking system and ruining matches, but ANet just sit there with their fingers in their ears. What the hell?
i need 3 months more to decide on which server i want to play…perhaps in 3 months nobody will play WvW so its wayne on which server you play…

I do not see how this is any fun for anyone. Camping the spawn points uses about 1% of the intended gameplay in the World vs. World maps.
If you are the leader of a major guild and you are contributing to this level of gamesmanship then you should be ashamed of yourself. How are you having fun?
Competing against an adversary that is closer to your skill level is much more gratifying when you succeed. We as a community have the ability to fix this without the Developers stepping in. Guild Leaders could take it upon themselves to move their guilds to even out servers.
I agree Developers opened this can of worms, but, we as a community are the ones that screwed it up. However, I am afraid that if nothing gets done then then Guild Wars 2 days are numbered and they will join the ranks of all the other failed MMORGs of late.

what you mean killling… its already dead on 2 out of 3 servers, look at the scores. for my server i can say we never have a queue, theres absolutely nobody playing at night and at primetime we still have borderlands that are completely unpopulated. that is after we had 2-3 hours queues in the first weeks on every map. that is after a huge amount of people have transfered to top tier servers (where they probably have like 3-4 hours queues now). that is despite huge community efforts to get people to WvW. i fail to see any sesnse in this, but im pretty close to just throwing the towel and finding a new game.

Can’t they just suspend guild influence gains for a week after a server transfer? Make all blueprints disappear on server transfers. Remove the WvW buffs from players for a week after a server transfer.
I like free transfers. The PvE side of the game would suffer too much without them. Playing with friends would suffer too much without them. Let’s face it, the majority of players don’t care that much about WvW. Server transfers are often done for reasons that have nothing to do with WvW, players select servers for reasons that have nothing to do with WvW. Just because WvW has a problem with server transfers doesn’t mean the rest of the community has to have a less than optimal experience to fix the problems of WvW.
IF something isn’t done soon a lot of their current clientele, won’t be.
At this point, blocking server transfers would do more harm than good. The existing imbalance would become permanent. Even after the fact, as soon as one server establishes dominance, people might find it worthwhile to pay a one-time fee to transfer to it, and stay there.
For this system to even work, you first have to ensure that people have a good enough reason to stay where they are, and to stay spread out as evenly as possible. Or at least to the degree that it would not be worth it to pay for even a single transfer.
As long as the system promotes the creation of a single super-server, locking transfers accomplishes nothing except to lock which server that is.
Problem isn’t free transfert, problem is leecher … 70/80% of player atm are leecher :/
AS was the french serv with the lowest population, we win vs AR and now vs VS… our waiting time to go in wvw up 30 minutes to 2/3h in 3 week …. Now we are full of useless leecher..
So what next ? our alliance leave AS, go to as low pop serv? win some match up, leecher inc , and we need to switch again ?
On VS tagged [FR] serv you can find some english guild.. here only because VS is 1..
signed. Free WvW transfers are killing the experience for many. As it stands, if we get matched up against the super server of the week (whichever server gets all the transfers) again, I’ll just stay away from WvW which is by far my favorite part of this game.
The day you lock down free server transfers is the same day that all servers WvW stats should be reset. Due to the free transfers we have servers with really high scores that just don’t have any WvW guilds left on them, and then we have some low score servers that just got the transfer from siteX so that they can stomp the next match. Very lame. Please fix.
I don’t understand why ANet don’t simply put a waiting period on WvW for server transfers. For example, just make WvW inaccessible for 72 hours after a player transfers to a higher-ranked server…

Back in the day { other games } you can farm for months to get a set of gear . this game is way to easy and not rewarding .
how to fix end game !!!!! its easy make a enchanting system in the game to enchant your weapons . every enchant is 2 points on weapon strength after +3 enchanting you can break your weapon with a fail rate of 40% and a max enchanting of 12
same for gear craft a new set above exotic is a craft rate of 60% . fail your craft you can go back to farming again !!!
also like to see a hero class system in this game where you can say i am the best of the best that month in your class on your server { with a nice icon above me }
ANet, any word on an ETA for ending free world transfers?
If you simply listen to chat in WvW or read some of the many forums posts on this matter, it is clear that we want this shut down. I know that it has been stated that you are working on it, but honestly, no transfers would be better than free transfers IMHO. You are allowing large 500+ man guilds to transfer to another server to avoid getting stomped in their next match, meaning the server they just left is going to get stomped even worse once they’re gone. An ETA would be nice.
