I’m from Blackgate, and the way that smaller guilds are kinda looked down on here, it’s made me want to move. However, all the medium population servers are European, so what do I do? Any recommendations?I’d really love to feel like I and my guild belong in WvW somewhere.

Most servers have their own private forums that are an easy google search away. If you find them, announce your intent in the form of a thread post, you’ll get responses and get a feel for the character of a server, and I encourage you to talk to guild leaders from each of those servers. I’m from Fort Aspenwood, and in general, we really focus on quality over quantity in our WvW players. We recently acquired two dedicated Guilds that field no more than 10~20 a night, and having played with/against them before, we really look forward to their contribution to the server.

We DO NOT have a kind of central command structure, and we believe it works to our advantage because our Guilds are diverse, but also coordinate well together on a map-by-map basis. Right off the bat, I can tell you some of the “small” Guilds we have contribute a huge part of WvW for us, so definitely look into talking to FIST, AoN, Shh, and others.

You might like it on Piken Square if you are playing in the evenings from America after 6 PM EST American time. 6 PM EST is when it’s midnight in Europe.

If you are playing before 6 PM EST, there will unfortunately be long queues. We usually have quite long queues until midnight European time, on normal weekdays. But after midnight, we usually don’t have any queues, except from reset night, where we do have queues on all four maps, since a lot of Europeans stay up to play.

We do have a good amount of players in the night on normal weekdays (in the evenings after 6 PM EST if you are from America), I guess mostly Americans, but also Europeans who can’t sleep, and have off from school or work the next day, and like to stay up in the night, so WvW is not empty at all at that time.

I’m from Europe, but I really like to play in the night if I can get away with it. It’s usually a really nice and fun time to play. We don’t always have a commander in the nights, but we often do, at least in the weekends, and when we don’t have a commander, it works nice anyway.

We are a lot of small guilds playing at that time, and we often make groups where people are from different guilds. And there is a really friendly community at that time. The battles are also really nice, and not as zergy as in the day time. There are still many players on from all the servers, even though it’s in the middle of the night in Europe.

Piken Square is also the roleplaying server in Europe. We actually don’t roleplay that much in WvW, but a lot of the players are roleplayers, so we are friendly to roleplaying in WvW, and often roleplayers can be the key to defend a castle. It’s mostly just that we just say some funny (in character) things once in a while and such.

Apart from WvW, Divinity’s Reach is very much alive, since people roleplay there. It can be really nice to walk around there once in a while, and take a look. That would usually be in the daytime if you are from America though.

We don’t have a lot of cookies, since the evil mean meanies from the other servers probably stole them, :P or someone ate them (tries to hide a bag), but we do have Charribean Rum and a real Pirate Ship in Bay!

Come to NSP, we love all the small guilds we have, and as I’ve said before I’m a former blackgater an couldn’t be happier on NSP, great guilds, great people and great fun! As said we have many small man guilds that run around all the time along with very fun map chats! Plus we could use a few more numbers overall after HOD recieived a TON of transfers recently! It’s unfortunate that this is the attitude on Blackgate. As much work that goes into it, there is little that can be down to change opinions. The T1 zerg situation definitely doesn’t help smaller groups as well.

If you tell me which guilds have been looking down on smaller guilds I will look into it. I’ve been putting a ton of effort into changing this attitude at our meetings, but somehow It’s impossible to stop without knowing the main culprits

Agg and FoE are the two “larger guilds”. I’m not sure which guilds were the smaller guilds.

As a player from a smaller BG guild, I can say that I have not experienced any sort of elitism.

I can state for a fact that small guilds are NOT looked down at on HoD. The reason I can state it as a fact is that the wife and myself are the only two members of our guild on Henge and we are well respected in the Henge WvW community as a guild that can get things done when they need doing. Ask any HoD about the Mystic Blades (MB) banner!

COME TO ANVIL ROCK!!!!!!! we are having fun and you join ALS (one of the biggest guilds in the server) we are a tier 5 server trying to push our way up and we are largely WvW based but do have alot of PvE’ers not sure if it is possible to join though… I think it is full

Come to Isle of Janthir its a very helpful and friendly environment where a lot of small guilds can/and do make a big impact in WvW

Are you sure its a small guild issue and not a small commander issue? There was a point this weekend when we were losing all our stuff to enemy zergs on BGBL while we had 4 commander tags running around splitting our forces. A commander tag isn’t required to flip camps with your guild. That said we love our small guilds! If you want to be a bigger player on a smaller server more power to you tho!

I would like to reply to every post that needs one at once, but I have no idea how all these forum buttons and springs and contraptions do, so it’ll be one at a time, unfortunately.

I appreciate your post, but it was actually someone from [MERC] that said it. Backstory: I logged on to command two mornings ago, around 6am-7am central U.S time. I was told in commander chat that Blackgate needed one, so I headed in there. Everything’s going alright, as best as you can hope for in the morning during the lull between SEA and U.S playing time.

There was a guild running around separate from my group, about five or six of them with said guild, running havoc south while we tried to take back our northern towers and Garrison.

Someone in teamspeak mentioned they should be with our group, since we were already minimally sized as it was. While I agreed with him, I said, “At the very least, it’s nice to have a small group running havoc to give us time to do what we need to do.” To which a different person replied, “Havoc parties are just small guilds pretending they actually do something around here.”

I’ll leave it at that. As for the person elsewhere in the thread who mentioned not needing a commander tag for leading your guild around— I agree completely. I’ve noticed too many strange command chains in BG BL lately especially. It’s called for in SoR BL, due to how hard we’re holding the hills right now, but I haven’t seen any reason for it in BG half the time. When I’m leading my guild around, and other commanders are up and about, I leave my tag off to avoid confusion.

Dude, one guy in TS doesn’t represent the whole server. do what you feels best for your guild, but don’t base it off of a heated comment. Everyone has the potential to be a jerk in the heat of battle. We are all human. I know for a fact our commander is nicer to smaller guilds than he is to our own members

I’ve seen you around a lot and we’ve actually spoke on TS before. However as someone mentioned above, one person doesn’t represent the whole server. The AOI alliance does the same as you and your guild. I’m in ATac myself and we in no way run in huge numbers, you’ve probably seen us before (ATac, OnS, DR, Work, VI and more) as well and they do the same thing. We’re all small guilds that do our own thing until everyone is needed in one place. And we really appreciate what you’ve done for the server.

Admittedly, I jumped the gun with assuming that the attitude was taken by most of the server, and I sincerely apologize for that. I was more trying to give an example of what I heard rather than call out a specific guild for it, which is what it seems I did. It was a first-time run in with talking to people from [MERC] and everyone was friendly, cooperative, and etc besides that, so I was by no means saying [MERC] is a bad guild by extension.

Since posting this thread yesterday, and before replying earlier this morning, I talked over a transfer with my co-leader, and we decided against it for a few reasons, one being the gigantic respect we’ve developed for people in AOI, many of them from various guilds within the alliance. Blackgate has some of the most dedicated players I’ve run into on any online community, and it’s made me appreciate the server a lot more as a whole, due to that dedication. We’ve been working along a lot of those guilds in SoR BL here lately, and it’s been great fun.

MERC is a great guild and there’s lots to learn from them.
