Hi everyone!

First off, good luck to everyone on the new matches, and congratulations to Kaineng on their first win!

Some have asked for an update regarding WvW, and what work is being done on it. As previously mentioned, our biggest goal currently is to find resolutions to the culling issues people are having and ensuring that everyone that wants to play WvW can play WvW, without having to wait in queue for a substantial amount of time. We have remained cautiously silent on what work is being done, as we do not want to say we are doing something, and for whatever reason have to cancel those plans.

Without saying too much, I can say we are making progress on culling. As some of you may have seen Habib has been working nonstop to ensure you have a great epic experience in WvW, while also giving you details on how some of the ‘behind the scenes’ systems work.

We are also looking at ways to better support players that are getting shut down on maps. Again this is something very new, so we are not able to say anything on how this will work. However, the goal is to make players able to leave the spawn areas with ease, as well as provide assistance on capturing objectives when you are being completely shut down on a map.

These are just a few things that we are actively pursuing. We are constantly reviewing the state of WvW. If you see a lack of developer presence on the forums, it is simply due to us working on making WvW an even better experience then it is now.

It is almost 3am now, and our server was matched against Desolation again.
We already know the winner, because they have the Ruin zerg every night.

30 minutes after a match started, and our people are already leaving WvW because there is no need to fight an already lost match…

Not sure what you have fixed, but we still crash walking out the front of the spawn point on enemy Borderlands.

The number of people getting loading screens then crashing when passing through mesmer portals or porting back to spawn was amazing.

That was in the 5 minutes I was in the Borderland before I magically crashed and sent back to queue.

I do have a number of WvW concerns, but very happy to hear some form of update, even if it couldn’t be more detailed on whats happening and how soon it will be implemented.
I would like to add a +1 on what Perdan mentioned. Haven’t seen many if any posts on this, but its a basic issue, that needs to be resolved.

Well i’m happy to see you are working on it. It is important for us to see developers listening to the community.

But during the time you’re working on it; the WvW is going worse and worse, if you are not quick enough to bring even temporary solutions: soon there will be nobody wanting to join it.
30 minutes after the match started between Ereddon Terrace, Henge of Denravi and Blackgate, everything is blackgate on all maps… this situation is almost everywhere and the endgame content is a lot affected.

I really love this game but for a minimum of 1 week I am gonna play another game because I’m bored of this situation.

free transfers are not the problem anymore. Now the only thing canceling free tranfers would do is to freeze the situation.

It’s not as easy as it sounds: developers have to find solutions to give the possibility to people to reverse any situation in order to dispatch guilds and people.

It’s hard to find out without disbalancing again the WvW.

‘players on shut down maps…’

So, there’s a new loading screen when leaving the spawn area in WvW and you get teleported from the top of the steps at the exit to 30 ft past the defenders at the bottom of the steps.

I don’t see the difference if this is intended. You’ve simply moved ppl from point a (inside and safe) to point b (outside and not safe) via a loading screen where they can be hit pretty much right away with no idea if anyone is out there camping the spawn or not. It’s actually worse, i.e.: less safe.

Is this the new implementation meant to help players leave the spawn area safely? Hopefully not, and it’s a bug.

1) I can’t run back into the spawn area. You’ve effectively cut off anyone in combat from getting back in, since now you need to map to go back up the stairs at the front of the spawn area.

2) Several ppl tonite have so far have been stuck at the loading screen and are forced to restart client, and then re-queue for wvw yada yada yada. Not very nice.

In effect, it’s a (imo) terrible solution…and hopefully this was not what you had in mind and it’s a bug. I agree, player camping at spawn in is cheap, and it sucks when you are the one being camped. It’s also something that happens in pvp unfortunately. I’d rather you just left it alone. Players always have the option to go somewhere else instead of being camped, or you know, can take one of the side exits instead of running out the front door.

I hope this doesn’t mean you’re going to allow even more people onto the horribly tiny WvW maps. Either implement a normal sized map (see: DAOC they figured out map size in 2001), or LOWER the cap in WvW.

considering I waited 30 minutes in que after reset tonight, then waited another 60 minutes requeing every ten or 15 minutes….I don’t see it. I logged off to go watch TV since my time sitting in town or gather materials while waiting just isn’t as fun as I could be having with my guildmates as I listened in VOIP. Just stating it as it is, not trying to start trouble but when a game isn’t fun, no reason to play it.

You are mistaking ‘culling’ for ‘queuing’. Culling is the visual suppression of players out of your range. But some people are having issues with these ‘invisible’ players when they should not be. THAT is what he said they are working on.

Right now the biggest bug is getting stuck in the loading screen on exiting spawn. I had to hard-quit the game to get out of it just now, and now i’m in a queue again. It would be nice to get a fix that doesnt break other stuff.

what a joke… “culling” is on the top of their list? not the fact that half their population cant even participate in WvW on the weekend?

think id place the Q issue at the top of my list. we all know its a random lotto and not a line like it should be. so that fix #1… #2 is add what # in line i am. so if i Q for Eternal BG and see im 245th in line ill know i have some time.. or if i Q for a borderland map and see im 25th in line i know ill get a pop soon enough and not to afk for long.

bottom line is WvW match reset should be on a Wednesday not a friday night and force a mass Q, that should be MMO 101, ( never start something on a weekend in the middle of NA primtime on a NA server..)
either way the 1 week match up is bad. will never work even when the servers are locked and “balanced” out. due to 24/7 scoring 1 side will always pull ahead by monday or tuesday even if balanced out cause its a NA server with Euro/ oceanic presence on some not others.

WvW matchups should reset every 48 hours and scoring should be done secretly by Anet. even if not 48 hour matchups is still better cause it give casual pvpers more chances to participate in WvW.. the casual pvper is not gonna WvW after monday night when 1 servers oceanic/euro pressence has pulled them far ahead.

i have a 5 man guild and we cant all get in the same WvW map to play together on a weekend. and everyones play times are random during the week so weekends are when we expect to play together and Anets current WvW Q system makes it impossible.

give me an Eternal Battle ground overflow map. with all the people Q’ed in our current WvW matchup.. so keep it SoR vs CD vs SoS, obviously dont count the score, ( personally i could care less about score cause i play for “FUN” something Anet advertised but has greatly lost site of… miss the old school MMO’s like DAoC where people played for fun and fought each other for FUN and trash talk rights… not to see a number tic at the top of their screen.

(EDIT) not to mention if i do get in a WvW map. god forbid i DC cause there is not grace period to log back in… only happen to me once have a pretty solid connection. but im sure this happens to plenty of people out there.

I can’t wait for the culling issues to be fixed. Most of the time I find that I’m finding an army of opponents that I simply can not see. It really completely kills any sort of fun I should otherwise be having in WvW. I would say the render bug is WvW’s number one issue.

Gedwyn, this is an update on what they are working on. The things he is talking about are not in the game yet.

Kevin, if the queues are that bad on your server, pick another. CD rarely has queues longer than a few minutes outside of Friday night.

Also, the score doesn’t matter. It’s just a count of what bonuses you’ve accrued and a ranking system to try and keep similar servers together. There is no prize for first place. Just play. The sooner people realize this, the better.

There usually isn’t a queue, but if there is I’m not in it for long and I can get into another map while I wait. Fridays have queues around the 2 hour range. CD is spawn camped occasionally, problem is it’s a high pop server but we’re not a high pop WvW server. When there’s interest (i.e. match reset) we do tend to do well, but interest seems to wain, even if we’re winning. Never-the-less, we can have our moments during the week and there is a core of WvW players who do continue to play regardless of score.

With a 48 hr. reset most player will never be ablt to get into WvW because of the current queue times.

I’m glad WvW is a priority. But none of this matters. If you dont figure out a way to keep achievers in WvW, they’ll leave the game. (There’s no way to produce an unlimited amount of PvE content unless you crowdsource that.)

Without PvP levels, titles, rankings for players and guilds, people will keep leaving the game.

it would force a spread of population and new servers to be opened up for the sole purpose of WvW… i still think the PvE side of the game shoulda all been connected.. just 1 main pve map then just over 2 over 3 and so on… and you can pick which one you want to play on if you have a friend on it.. sooner or later and it happens now middle zones are desolate… so you take the 5 people in the middle zones on each server and you now have a healthy pve map for the middle zones.. will onyl get worse with time… on the pve side that is.

Please don’t touch this. It is absolutely not your problem to fix if this is happening. This is to be fixed by matchmaking, and proper wvw strategy.

It is NOT difficult to leave spawn and make a push into a map. Eventually matches will be even.

Please do not touch this aspect of the game.

Take a lesson from Ehmry Bay. Even when massively outnumbered we make our presence known and make a showing in WvW. The problem there isn’t anything to do with your match-up system but getting your people organized and fired up.

Hey guys, this is an update of what is being worked on. Not a kitten and cry list because he didn’t type it out in a certain order that you approve of. He said its some of what they are looking at, not all of what they are working on. Please as a gamer community don’t over react like small children throwing a tantrum because it will just create a backlash and they will stop updating us with what is happening. It’s OK to act mature and make your opinion known. Its OK to take a break from GW2 and do something else and come back in a week or two.

start at 20 players

after 20 players there will be a player cap

so if there is 5 player on blue and 2 on green red will still get 20 players in

the cap will only work for the team with the most players

red has 25 players
blue has 20 players
green has 45 players

25+20=45

the weaker teams if they have decent commanders are more likely to attack the stronger team

this will help spread out the population and also make the game more enjoyable for the larger servers

joining a WvW game and your server owns 100% of the map and the other teams have left after u have spent a hour in a queue = not fun at all even if your server is winning you would have to be a idiot to think this is enjoyable

Like so many others, I’d like to know what will be done about the free server transfers, which as of today, is used as a tool to spy on the opposite servers. All is fair in love and war, at least so they say, but since the transfers aren’t supposed to be free we’d like to have a update on it.

I would have to say this game appears to me and my friends to be in a worse state then when it was originally released. So whatever your doing, either your not doing enough or your doing it wrong.
