Times have been tough on us. During beta, SF was one of the WvW powerhouse. Now, we are in the low bracket. Guilds and commanders switched servers, but new ones came.
Sorrow’s Furnace is learning every week, we get along during peak time, we are starting to work together in WvW and it shows. What I notice is that there not a lot of oceanic players to keep what we have.
Now that it is 2013, we are determined to get out of the lower bracket and onto the higher ones.

This is more of a related point than a counterpoint — the simple fact that SF (known for terrible night presence) is able to be dominant at night is a sign that T8 as a whole needs better nighttime coverage.

How has SF a terrible night presence when they owning the night between the 3 servers ?

I think we have a high PvE presence instead of WvW. So even though we have a high amount of players, most of them are not into WvW. Unless its going well ofcourse. But Even then, getting numbers for a zerg/group is tough.

Come Pacific time around 10pm or 11pm, WvW as a whole in tier 8 right now is just desolated. The only reason why we dominate nighttime right now is because we have a few commanders who stay on extra late and go on a capping spree during pretty reasonable hours for the West coast to be awake, but deep into “night capping” territory for East coast.

Despite that, our nighttime numbers don’t hold a candle to the sort of numbers any of the other WvW tiers can field on any given night.

More so to the 2 other Servers than SF

The total server population is in no way indicative of that server’s WvW population. If it was, SF would be doing better than Kain and DR (which are at “High”) and would be in a higher tier alongside the other 15 “Very High” server populations. We’re predominately a PvE server. We’d like to see more WvWers join us. Nothing wrong with that.

Sorrow’s Furnace is still seeking some Oceanic love! Things have greatly improved for SF since Banjo’s OP and we’ve been dominating our tier for over a month now. We’ve been making a push to break out of T8 into T7, but we now have a new challenge to overcome…ET nightcapping.

SF does a very good job at taking over and holding points during the daytime hours. By the the time I go to bed (12pm PST), we’ll have all (or most) of EB and a large portion of our opponents’ BL (in addition to our own BL of course). But by the time 6am PST rolls around, most of our holdings outside of our own BLs will have been nightcapped away from us. ET recently became the beneficiary of a night crew and has been nightcapping like crazy…it’s one of the primary reasons for our rating backslide last week (despite us winning by landslide). And this new development is delaying our rise out of T8 (for servers who keep saying they to see us leave T8, they sure to seem intent on keeping us around! :p ).

So, SF is looking to fill that coverage gap and is seeking some defensive Oceanic WvW players (or anyone who happens to play in that time slot) to help us retain our holdings. As Banjo said, we have cookies! And if cookies aren’t your thing, we have cake and pie too!

It would be great if some Oceanic players joined Sorrow’s Furnace.

As Manoa said, we have developed a solid day crew and are continuing to work on our coordination; however our Oceanic WvW player base is still pretty sparse. We could definitely use some reinforcements there.
While logging on in the morning to find alot of areas to recapture is fun, losing so many points overnight is not something that we can afford when we move up to higher tiers.

So, if you are interested in joining our server, you would be greatly appreciated and welcomed with open arms!

If you would like to speak to someone about it first, i am sure Banjo, Manoa or myself would be more than willing to answer some questions.

OMG, this thread makes me laugh so hard. ET and FC, you guys complain all the time if any SF players posts in a thread with your name in the title, believe you call it “hijacking” your thread.

This thread is not about your servers or even the current matchup. In order to compete at higher levels we will need a better nighttime/early morning presence. Period. This is not about winning against you guys, though it will help us keep more points and hopefully gain rating numbers. This thread is about making our server solid on all fronts.

We’ll just say Manoa’s been playing her necromancer a lot lately. Given recent events, it felt appropriate to bring this thread back since it’s still incredibly relevant. Perhaps even more so now. We’ve always struggled with night coverage, but are in need of Oceanic players more than ever now that ET has a gotten a night crew.

Yeah we could definitely use some more Oceanic presence. You would be welcome’d with open arms.

Seriously, everyone needs a night presence in T8. Right now oceanic are more need on FC and SF. ET has pretty good coverage really early EST, oceanic time. No harm with Oceanics coming. It is the people who go to SF during US prime times that i care about.

Yeah we definitely don’t need any more prime time. I’d argue that our prime time would probably compare with tiers higher than 7, outside of that we are lacking, especially coordinated efforts.

I’d be good to see FC get some more nighttime love as well (just don’t go and get more than us!). Anything to give that new ET night crew something to fight against. It must be such a bore fighting against doors and guards all the time. :p

As it stands, there is really nothing to match ET’s massive early-morning AM zerg.

SF could really, really use a night watch.

It was 25-30 the time I tried staying up and defending against it.

Considering we have usually have half a dozen off on defending, it might as well be an unstoppable war machine.

I set my alarm clock early hoping to see this mythical “EB completely capped by ET” craziness. (I just need a few more things for map completion…). We had absolutely no part of EB. Zero. Zilch. A small group of us let by a single commander managed to grab back must of our 1/3 before moving on to greener pastures (and me moving on to work).

So sad to see the people that fled FC and made them drop to red come back and post like they matter anymore.

Seems that winning is more important to SF than playing.

Maybe everyone should transfer to the winning server. That seems like a plan with no downside.

Let’s be honest, it’s not specifically winning that we’re going for here. We’re already winning, anyway.

If tier 8 were competitive, you wouldn’t see weeks upon weeks of new whine threads created by all 3 sides about the matchup balance. As it stands, it’s not like the floodgates are going to magically burst open with hundreds of primetime players transferring to FC and ET.

Would it balance the matchup? Sure it would. Is it something anyone could expect to happen? Absolutely not.

If SF got a decent Asian/Oceaniac presence, would it balance the matchup? Certainly not. We’d win by a bigger margin. But at least ET’s ever-growing night crew won’t have to beat down doors on undefended towers all day, and it’d probably go a long way in getting us out of T8.

It won’t balance T8 even in the long run since whomever drops from T7 to take our place is still going to be overqualified for T8 by miles, but the change in scenery for the burnt out players hiding in PvE on all 3 sides might come out again. Who knows, if it happens, maybe it’ll be ET’s turn this time to stomp on the new server for exactly one week they’re in T8 before domination begins anew.

The healthiest thing is still for ET and FC to get a decent daytime crew at the same time that SF and FC get a decent nighttime crew, but getting us out of T8 and giving all 3 sides in T8 a fresh matchup is at least a much-needed breather.

The reality is, we’re looking for progression, and unless those of us participating during primetime are willing to quit our jobs, living off savings/go into debt, and play during the Oceanic timeframe; we need to recruit people to fill that timeslot, that’s all this thread is encompassing, and all we are looking for.

Sorrow’s Furnace is in the list of free transfers. We have a very strong presence outside of our Oceanic timezone, and could use all the help we can get to solidify our core for when we move up into other tiers.

So yes, consider transferring to Sorrow’s Furnace where you will be met with open arms and a stable backbone to support your efforts when you are offline.

We are eligible for free transfers at SF? I thought we were high population.

This is definitely a good time to revisit this.
Hopefully there are some Oceanic guilds/players out there that are willing to transfer to a server that would be willing to work with them to fill a much needed coverage gap.

Oh, well in that case, transfer to Sorrows Furnace and come get your WvW map completion in a single night, before we bust out of T8! Act quick before our population goes back to high and you’ll have your WvW map completion in no time.

This is the perfect opportunity to get that fancy star for your main and get a head start for all your alts.

Yeah DW My jaw dropped this morning when I saw the NA list. I had to log in and check the servers again …Nope still only 3 med pops and SF wasn’t one of them.

I don’t know if ANet has different stats than they show to us on the World choice screen, but it feels wrong lol

My guess is that depending on time of day, the population may drop low enough to send us to medium? I’m not sure if it works this way, but I think it does since I’ve seen other threads on the cheapest time of day to transfer to specific servers.
So if you want to join sorrows furnace for that map completion or for any other reason, keep an eye on the population and come on over if it hits medium.

According to a developer post, population are “home server accounts”, not determined by time of the day.

My only guess would be they might be looking at WvW populations? This also doesnt make much sense though….

Yeah, I’m truly confused why SF was on that list, and GoM and NSP. These servers don’t show as medium…
Perhaps they DID have medium populations but people transferred in so fast they jumped to high right away?

I’m guessing their definition of medium is different than the medium we see when we select servers, regardless we are getting off topic.

Medium changes based on time of day. Every servers “population” is actually the population logged on at the time you are looking across WvW, Pve, and PvP.

the only reason they are doing transfers is to take away from lag on the top servers due to the culling issues.

But still SF needs you…
