I have accounts on a lot of websites, but have never had any issues with them, or previous MMOs.
I checked my account and everything is intact, but I’m only level 11, so nothing of value would have been lost anyways.

My friend asked me to post on his behalf since he still doesn’t have access to his account. He generated a ticket (120903-012975, 120905-000445) after he was denied access to his account subsequent to receiving first an email with a password change request and then an email account change notification from Arenanet. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.

All joking aside I am in need of aid. My girl friends account was hacked last night and now the hacker is in game playing her account and there is nothing I can do but watch him defile the gift I gave her. Take note he has already changed her email address, changed her server, and will not reply to whispers while he chain farms WVW. Her ticket:120905-001025 with all information required (and then some) and a printable document sent with prepurchase of the game via the web browser. Assist ASAP! Untill she can play I’m not being allowed too! :’( (
PS: take note weve moved her email address (provided in the ticket)to a new secure email account seeing how her old account was compermised)
PSS: this account im posting from is obviously not affected!
Update: Added a scaming report after hacker replys:
My post: “Some rage about him taking her account… and leveling her up” (we quest together normaly ; ; now who knows whats finished)
his reply “I’ve had a few days, but ive also help her upgrade”

Although she outlevels you, you can enjoy the fact that both of you can still do the same content together due to the content scaling.

my question is, if you get unauthourized attempt does it mean they have your password? or are they trying to brute force it. to me an attempt does not mean “hey someone is logging in as you” it means “hey someone is TRYING to log in as you.” I let the attempts go for a couple of day and they havent taken anything off my characters or otherwise altered my account. but now after reading the forums i have now changed my password and email just in case.
also the possibility of me having a key logger is 0% and let me explain why.
less than a week before guild wars 2 comes out i dropped my laptop and borked the HD. bought a new HD put a fresh install of windows on it. and i have only installed ONE program, guild wars 2. have i installed anything else since then? hell no gw2 is out, this is all i am doing atm.
if possible can a gw staffer please answer the following.

Does that mean they have put in my username and password and just waiting for some fool to click authorize in the email? or does it mean they attempting to guess my password? This is important to know because it helps me guage what is compromised. I am not going to go through and change my passes and emails on everything everytime some clown is trying to brute force my arena net account, but if they actually have my password it would be nice to know and it would help me go through other stuff that they could have access to or found a way to get the password with, so you could see how it would make a big difference knowing which. I would appreciate it if only a GW2 staffer answered this as i do not want to take advice of joe schmo forum tech support. While i appreciate the effort to help i have also worked in the IT field for many years and would like to base my action/reactions on official answers only.
Also for consideration to the GW team, you guys should just region lock china out until they get their own version to play. 95/100 attempts i have seen all over the forums and the rest of the net say CN region, and a few from mexico.

Still waiting some response from admins… I cant believe after sending notification for the hack within hours of its occurrence (with all information including picture of receipt and the .pdf of the confirmation email for account creation) the hacker has been allowed 3 days to pillage her account. Not to mention him admitting he hacked her account to me in a whisper which has been reported for scamming. Please assist soon we would like to continue leveling together.

Hackers are a real terror… I’d see their point if they did it for information (political truths) but hacking for things like this? Something that they can attain by walking to a store. Like that’s really low… Not to mention the person who replied to you is probably using it for personal entertainment rather than gold farming bots… Sadly you’re gonna have to wait longer than 3 days (most likely)… some people here who hasn’t received help would think that that’s a laughable level of waiting – there’s a thread saying that he/she waited for a week to get a reply, another week to get the ban unlocked then when he/she finally logged in the account was banned again for ‘gold farming’. gg

What really irks me is seeing someones post say “about 20min ago” and then a mod posting “about 1 min ago” Sad panda… And in reference to the other poster, I can see how easy it would be for something like that to happen with everything now being electronic and automated. So many different people accessing + assisting on the same issue. Hopefully by sticking to 1 active ticket and perseverance I can avoid that all togeteher. Unfortunately by reporting for scamming I may have all ready tripped myself up on that, as I’m sure that report will be handled by a different department.

I have seen so many threads here about these account bans that I really have to wonder what the heck is going on over at Anet.
Players gets banned apparently at random for no reason at all and dont even get so much as a single word of explanation as to why they have been banned.
I even heard stories about how players has been banned for defending another players view on WOW.
I mean whats the point int that?
And then I see posts like the OP here where his or someone he knows account has been hacked and the one who hacked the account can keep playing with no action taken.
Not to mention that there has been a significant amount of ingame bugs and issues that has left players frustrated and angry.
I dont know what Anet is up to but they really need to get their act together soon or players will leave in droves.
I dont know about others but I have already changed both the password and email for this account just to make sure I have done everything I can to secure it.
My personal opinion is that this game could have used at least another month if not two inn beta to address many of the ingame issues.
As for the ban hammer, they really need to stop put it down for a while and give the players a break.

I feel for you Sneakster, I’m honestly surprised that the guy can keep playing.
And then to have the Audacity to reply and admit he did hack the account?
Some hackers do it just because they can and because the find it entertaining or even amusing to grief others with their actions.
And I would even think that some do it because they want to play the game, but dont want to buy the game so they steal a legitimate players account instead.
I hope you get that account back soon, and that Anet get this crap under control ASAP.

My son had his account hacked Saturday and we filed a ticket right away with no reply so far. As for the ban thing I personally do not see anyone being banned for reasons that are not justified like exploiting. Perhaps these “bans” are hacked accounts that the player just thought were bans? I mean the only way we knew what happened was he was playing and it kicked him off line then said invalid email address. He checked his email and it said someone hopefully him had changed his email. Wish it had a verification in it or something seems like it was too easy to have it hacked. Poor kid he just lost a great uncle and this was his distraction. =( heres to hoping they get their act together on this hack thing soon!

And thats the part that I find most surprising.
The account has been reported as stolen yet the hacker can keep playing without the account being closed, while others get the accounts banned for saying no reason at all.
Not before posting on the forums do they get a vague description of the possible reason.
Sure they dont discuss banned accounts on the forums, but they could at least send a mail to the account owner telling them why they have been banned, not just ban their account and then nothing.
Personally I have gotten to a point where I dont log on anymore, because I honestly fear that I will get banned for something or other even if I nothing wrong.
If I didnt know better I would say they do random bans hoping that it will get players on their toes about what they do at all times.

Admins have my permission to service Rhi ahead of me! that’s horrible… For anyone else that his is happening to I strongly suggest making a gmail account. Gmail allows you to see where every log in comes from (country/state) and be notified when there is a log in rom an area not near your home. It also allows you to use Text or phone called passwords that are random and only usable one time or an application for smartphones called an G authenticatior to create a random password for every log in to gmail. I use this on my email since it contains sensitive information for business and just swapped her to it as well. It seems nothing is safe anymore…

First off my condolences on the loss, losing someone close is never easy.
My own very close and very dear grandmother passed away just a couple years ago so I know what its like.
As for the email stuff I have to agree, they really should send you a mail asking yo to confirm the change of email before its changed, not change it and then send a confirmation that its done.
I remember back when I played wow, if you changed the mail on you account, you would get a mail asking you to confirm the change BEFORE it was changed.
If Blizzard could do this, then why cant other MMOs follow up on this one simple yet very effective security measure?

We’re trying to get to to everyone very quickly, and with new team members, we’re training as quickly as possible and hope to have even more resolved in the coming days. I’m not sure why people are using the same passwords across multiple systems.
All this will get sorted out in due time. My turnaround time for support was six days for a billing issue.

I’m still puzzled over the fact that in GW1 you had to know a characters NAME in order to log into the game, and since ALL character names are unique across all servers, why this wasn’t just copy/pasted into the new game??? Seems like this would have gone a long way to quell this mess.

Today i was in the middle of playing (I just made a new ranger and was leveling her) when my screen suddenly went black and i had to go to my task manager to close gw2. When i tried to log back in it told me i was banned for breaking the rules of conduct. I have only played this game with my brother as we both got it on my birthday from my father and i have not said more then 20 words in chat since i started and none of them could be even remotely considered rude. Me and my bro have had a blast playing together and i have no idea why this would happen. Also right after i got the ban message i checked my email and i saw about 100+ emails from arenanet saying i needed to validate my email address(all were sent within a 3ish min time period) could someone have perhaps tried to hack me and some failsafe program banned my account to protect me from account thieves?
Can someone please look into this for me i have submitted a ticket for assistance but i have been waiting for hours with no response and i gave all the appropriate information.
Time is money please do not keep me waiting.

What research? obviously the ban was some sort of automated system as i have broken zero rules Im only lvl 38 and every single quest i have done my bro did with me and yet he is not banned and as i stated before i have barely typed 20 words in gw2 chat. therefor just undo all the bans that automated system did as it clearly is not working as intended.

Blame lies with the people compromising these accounts, the people who didn’t abide by good security principles, and ArenaNet’s staffing. You’re likely going to have to wait days, but support will speed up as they get more CSRs on.

Same thing happened to me dude. I was just playing 2 days ago and hardly spoke to anyone and I was never once disrespectful and never had an argument and then suddenly i was banned for use of racial slurs… I have never once even cursed or said anything racial… I got a 72 hr(3 days) ban, and i submitted a ticket as it happened… But from the looks of things based on how up to their neck support is, i doubt i would get help… My account supposedly reopens tomorrow afternoon..
I guess you just gotta wait out your suspension time, assuming you was not perma-banned.
