Do you think its fine that a company like Anet dont have ANY recovery system for hacked account. Ive lost like 60 gold, all weapons, all collectibles, all gems, all armors, all weapons. Simply everything ive gathered from day one with 5 characters.
More than two Months completely thrown away for what? I was away for ONE day and my account was hacked. and the only thing Anet support can tell me is that I should look for Karma vendors and get cheap things to get started again since they cant help me in anyway. very funny indeed. Do you think I want to start all over again from useless karma vendors after 4 exotics sets and all the rest? even WoW Unofficial Free servers have a character recovery system….for many reasons not just totally jacked account. At least using bank or hero panel screenshots you really should help people recover their lost stuff……Im just saying this because its not fair at all that we can occur in such things and you would simply do nothing for your customers. you should be amazingly sorry and try to help people who experience this kind of issue, simply because its the worst thing it can ever happen to you playing a MMORPG.

Actually ArenaNet has discussed and mentioned the implementation of a system that allows for the recovery of damages incurred upon an account in the event of hacking, or damages resulting from corruption or game errors. They however mentioned that this would apply to an entire account. I assume that whoever took items from the account would get banned along with it. So if that were the case, I’d recommend in such a ticket to declare who your friends are, and any alternate accounts you play with, just incase any friendly items went their way before being hacked (to prevent them from getting banned with the hacker).
I myself am a bit hesitant on this kind of thing, because rolling back an account not only means deletion of progress, but also duplication of items that were moved away from the account. Thus to deal with this kind of issue, you basically gotta ban where the items went. How many hops of those items will be considered bannable? Who will get banned? What kind of appeal will take place for such a situation where innocent people get caught up by traded items that they didn’t know were stolen?

I would really like to be able to roll back to a few days ago for all the things i had. Plus noone of my friends would get banned for anything since I have screenshots of my account security page that precisely show the connection from China with the IP address of the one who got into my account and stole everything. After losing everything Ive got I assure you I would do anything in my power to recover all the stuff. but there is simply nothing I can do and this is definetly not customer friendly.

Do you really think that item duplication is a problem for programmers that build a game such GW2? And you think that the stolen items won’t transit through one ONLY account or only a FEW ones? The real thing is that ANet failed with security, and they should IMMEDIATELY give back items from stolen account. This should not be even an option. Personally I won’t give ANet money anymore, I will not buy on Black Lion Trading Company and if they will continue with this way of acting I won’t buy expansions too.

They could make it so that all items associated with the account that is getting rolled back, get deleted from the system just before the account is taken to a previous backup point. All items should technically have their own ID. No duplicate problem! Gold is another issue though, sadly.

@Loli
Oh that would be nice… someone got his account hacked, the hacker sold the stuff to an other player (who does not know that the account was hacked). Anet rolls back and the player that bought the items has nothing left… And what to do about items that where sold to the Black Lions trader? It is just not realistic to remove items from the game.

I assure that if you had lost 60 gold and all your stuff you wouldnt care much about duplicated items….whats the problem?? Soulbound items cannot be selled anyway so everything that goes on the TP is already there….whats the difference if there is one more object of that same type…..the one who jacked my account simply salvaged everything and sold only the materials to get gold and send them to his profile most likely. So there’s totally no point on duplicated items.

You can earn gold back though…. Items however I’d care a bit more about.

If Anet simply provided a tracking ID for every item this would not have been a problem at all. You lose your stuff, they check that you had those things, track it and give it back to you. Stop. The last step is just refound who bought that and ban the ones who received the items LAST from the hacked account. Really not that difficult if you made a game of such this complexity.

Yeah you can earn 60 gold back….it doesnt matter at all right……

Gold is a number though…… If you transfer gold, all there is from that is a log and an exchange in numbers. It’s not like each piece of money can have it’s own ID number….
Consider that thought and how gold can quickly move around the server after it’s theft.

Yes but what about items? They can have ID numbers! And I don’t think Anet doesn’t have logs or backups in which they can see status of players of days before…
ArenaNet Communications Manager
The fast is, the feature that will us to restore an account — that is, roll the entire account back to a state immediately prior to its compromise — is still in development, but progress has been made and I believe this feature will be offered soon.
This will not be a "retroactive* feature. That is, if you were compromised today, last week, or two months ago, we will not be able to offer an account restoration. The feature will be great, though, for future issues and we’re looking forward to being able to offer this service!
