Got hacked. Will i get my stuff back?
Nope. Arenanet cannot refund missing or lost items. The ability is not coded into the game yet.
WHen it does finally get implemented, they have said that it will be an ACCOUNT rollback, not a character one. So if you request a restoration after a compromise, the entire account will be rolled back to the last save on file before the compromise happened. Any progress on any character after the compromise will be lost.
The code not being present is a gross over sight on the companies part. The fact that people have used micro transactions and purchased items albeit virtual this should have been in place from day one. They have a legal obligation to returning your lost funds to you. I’ve read responses to the affect of " oh this wasn’t our fault it wasn’t our security leak." That wont hold to many other companies have suffered similar ordeals. You can say we had no way of knowing this could have happened. Best case scenario for them right now to avoid legal action is the immediate return of all lost monetary funds IE gems and gold that was purchased from them. They need to immediately add authentication security because this is where the negligence stems from. Worst case scenario. They take no action and offer account rollbacks at a later date. Thats bad PR shutting your eyes with the hope the problem goes away will look even worse if /when legal actions have been taken. In short yes you’ll get everything you lost back however there is no point in continuing to play this game until the rollback has been offered. Again bad PR decision I would strongly warn people away from making any purchases from their in game store at this time the proper security measures are not in place.
Security measures are in place. Its a complimentary customer service addition that isnt. Remember, the devs are under no obligation to restore any items, and even Blizzard didnt have item restoration for compromised accounts for a few YEARS after launch.
However, as i said, Arenanet have said that the feature is coming soon and it is backdateable. So you can go an play another game till restoration is available, then put in a request.
Yes it’s offered as an added measure when micro transactions are not in place. When a company makes the decision to offer virtual transactions for currency than it is no longer an added security measure but standard practice. I will use your WOW reference. As soon as micro transactions were offered from them they also had an active authentication system available. Blizzard is even more paranoid with the new RMAH on D3 probably because their legal team knows the ramification otherwise. When you deal with other persons moneys extra precaution isn’t an extra feature it becomes mandatory.
If you get hacked… they will not help you get your gear / money back. they’ve stated this already via support.
However I never got my Collectors edition [Digital version] Items. Its been a couple weeks I should ask for a refund for the game since I didn’t get the items I purchased.

I had amassed a rather nice supply of colectibles before I was hacked. Now they are all gone. Will I get them back? This is a deal breaker for me.
Sorry to hear you were hacked. I hope that your account is now fully secure, with a unique password and so forth.
At some point in the near future, we will be able to offer the account restoration service that will “roll back” the account just prior to the compromise, in which case your items will still be intact. There are certain requirements for this system to be implemented for an account, but many happy Guild Wars players have taken advantage of the system.
We are gathering the data now, so when the system is in place you could theoretically be restored to your pre-compromise state. However, since we don’t have a release date, and since you’d lose all that you acquire between reinstatement (resumption of play) and restoration, most players are going to elect to let it go and simply move on with their reinstated, re-secured accounts. I do believe you will have this option, but again, I cannot say when the feature will be offered.
