That happened to me last night as well. Only been down for about 19 hours, but I haven’t heard anything yet. I’m beginning to question their process of dealing with bots if so many people seem to be incorrectly having their account banned. I just hope that they reinstate our accounts before the event is over. I don’t want “Attended The Party” to be the only thing I didn’t do for Halloween because I was temporarily banned for something I didn’t do. Would a bot get 100% map explore, master crafter, and complete the mad king clocktower puzzle? I doubt it. So, I’m not sure how close they are looking at accounts before they ban them.

Sometimes I think people don’t understand the def of botting. I know of 3 botters in ML on my server (i’ve killed them once with a champ, waiting on response to see if i can get banned for that before doing it again) but they tabbed back in and where like we’re not botting. Esp cause we’re talking to you right now.
Um you’re automating. Took 10 minutes to rez. 1 dude rezed, ran back, used his ability to rez a second dude away from enemies, that dude rezed and was still attacking air and sat there for 15minutes before going back to main spot attacking air.
Anytime you tab out/leave computer and your character is still doing, it is considered botting.
Now maybe some of you aren’t guilty of this, and I hope you get your account back, but to the others, I hope it stays perma banned.

I think that people understand the definition of botting just fine. Although some accounts that have map completion and other achievements automate various activities, that is most likely not the case in general. ANet already acknowledged a goof with bans a little while back, and it seems like something similar may have happened again given the number of posts with bans from around the same time.

Yeah Ive been banned since last night…Filed a Support ticket ASAP..Received an automated response saying I need to go to my account Email and complete the Login authentication process……..Well first what does that have to do with being banned for botting? Second I dont get a request when I attempt to login from my Home PC/IP only when I log in on my work PC which is another IP address…Which may have sparked this I dont know….None the less their Auto response was no help at all. I updated my ticket with more information requesting they please actually investigte why I was banned…A notice saying Im banned for Botting is clearly not an authentication issue…….

Unless someone actually helps me soon Im just going to write of the 60 bucks for the purchase (Two weeks ago) and the 20 bucks for gems so I could buy some cool skins for my level 15 and level 20……Hardly seems worth all this garbage at this point…Bad customer service for sure though…Really bad.

Seems pretty clear they updated their security profiles somehow and basically banned a bunch of innocent players in the process. Im not irritated it happened….Im furious there is no live customer care for these sort of things. Sitting for days and longer because Anet has no direct contact method and can hide behind anonymity and take their time is not acceptable….

Yeah, I’ve never seen that online. It really is annoying not having a way to contact them. Dealing with customer support over the phone with something like this is so much easier. Plus, the turnaround on these support tickets is a lot longer than it would take to deal with even the worst customer support case over the phone.

I have the same problem – banned for booting, but I am an elderly lady and I do not really need to use some programs to help playing. I play for fun and do not need a slapping ego as I amazing.

I just logged into my account and was informed that it had been terminated due to “engaging in or assisting with gold or item sales for real-world money”. This is quite surprising, considering that when I last logged in (a couple of weeks ago I believe), I was at level 24 and had only been playing for a couple of days. Since I have only played on my computer and avoid engaging in password reuse, I find it hard to believe that my account has been hacked. I can only assume in that case that the issue is at Arenanet’s end.
As required, I submitted a question to the support page, and am currently waiting…
(the reference number is #121031-002881 ). The only problem is that I am waiting at a LAN party while my friends are playing next to me.

Can someone explain to me why there is a phone number to call for fraud related problems, and only those problems? Is money the only thing that is important enough to warrant being able to speak to another human being? The more I’ve looked through the forums I’ve realized that most support responses are minimal, if at all, and they don’t come in a timely matter. I really hope that this issue is being looked into, because this should not be a recurring problem.
Sorry to break it to you but unless that LAN party is a week long you probably won’t get to participate.
Same thing happened to me 3 days ago as well as numerous people in the past week. Most of us are still waiting on a reply. Something is going horribly wrong at A.net security central.

I am experiencing a similar issue.. [Incident: 121031-002997] My game shut down and I received an error when trying to log back in stating that my account had been terminated due to botting. My wife and I recently purchased Guild Wars 2 and neither of us support this type of behavior let alone exercise it. We have been very actively (online for the majority of each day since the date of purchase) playing together prior to this issue, although she is not banned(perhaps this is the cause of the issue?). GM Lemoncobra has very productively helped my wife and myself resolve a similar issue previously in Guild Wars. Hope to get this resolved as soon as possible.Thanks in advance.

Adding my name to the list! Wrongly banned for “botting” when no such 3rd party apps or actions were used! I understand that this is a bug and that issues happen, and I am prepared to be patient while they address everyone’s individual tickets, but I’m super bummed that I won’t be able to finish the halloween achievements as I was attempting to complete them before they expired when the banning occurred =[
I’m another person with the same problem. I just hit 48 hours and I’m really disappointed seeing people saying 10 days.
I have a question for those of you that have waited longer: How soon did you first get a response and how much back and forth occurs after they start reviewing your account?

If your account has been terminated “for engaging in or assisting with gold or item sales for real-world money” it is possible that your account has been compromised. Generally intruders use compromised accounts to disperse in-game spam for various gold-selling websites. This generally results in the account being terminated, often leaving the legitimate owner of the account with no idea why their account is closed.
I know most of you have already submitted a support ticket, but if you have not done so, this is an important step in getting your account returned to you.

The other companies charge 15 dollars a month. They have more income in that aspect to say the least.
Also, I am sure one of mentioned company took a long time to get to the CS level they have now.
Back in the early days of WoW, it took forever to get ONE issue corrected.

Im bagging GW2 Im not irrate I just cant see playing this game after this…Sad part is I like the game…But this is over the top bad service Im only 3 days in on my unwarranted “Botting” ban and Ive seen people that have waited up to 13 days…..
I just called another MMO customer service to have my Old Security Key removed as I changed phones and didnt bother to move the APP over…I waited around 2 mins…Got a live CS Rep…They removed the key, offered to set up a new one on the phone for me….Asked If I wouldnt mind rating his service in an email poll and I was done in about 5 mins…..Thats Customer Service for a company this size….I wont mention the other game but it is sub based..but is going FTP because the model has proven more succesful in the current market….This is their first MMO…so they are not more established then Anet…… 3 days…13 days…its all horrible CS, and thats not ok with me. I regret ever purchasing GW2 to begin with after this experience….and thats what everyone will here from me from this day forth. Not mad, just have never been ok with bad service….and companies need to b e held accountable for their mistakes just like they are trying to hold people accountable for brwaking their rules….apperently a misguided job…but they are clearly trying.

You mean the MMO in Space ? I have the game and I also remember how the customer service was when it first launched. It is not much different than what is happening currently here. If you don’t believe me, ask people who played since launch.
I know because I had to submit ticket and wait through it as well in that game.

I mentioned this on the other thread. The best way I can think of is to make sure the computer is clean. Then, create a new gmail, use google authenticator on the gmail. Then, add authenticator to your gw2 account as well.
That way, you have more security with your email and gw2 account.

Yes the “MMO in Space” and I played all phases of beta, All through early release and Never had to wait over 24hrs for a response…some auto, some live chat. None of these issues locked me out of the game for no reason…if they had there was a 24hr phone support CS to call and gget you back in ASAP. I can appreciate defending a game you like but some people waited up to 13 days so far to get unwarranted Bans lifted….Sorry thats not even close to acceptable….And this company is not new to MMO’s its not like you can say they have never dealt with this level of CS before…thay have it Email only for a buffer from the community….Its easier on them, and buys them time straight up.
Im curious how long its gonna take for them to unlock my account…I wont be playing..any game from Anet ever again TBH… but Im still curious. Its a good game…Worst Customer Service I have ever experienced since I started MMO’s in 2003..

That is what I was trying to say. I did have to wait for days for my ticket to get answered. It was an account error and I was not able to play the game at all.
As for the 13 days and no response, we only has his post and we don’t know the whole story. I try not to make a judgment from that hence my comment on "not all thing on internet is true. That just reminds me when GW2 first released, people are banned and said they did nothing wrong. CS then asked on reddit about their user name and tell them exactly what they did wrong. ALL of those who claimed to be “innocent” turned out to be NOT innocent at all.
It is the cyber space, people say whatever they want. It is up to us to decide what is true or not.

Thanks for this great thread. It has been the only good information about this subject. My account was terminated as of noon today. The only reason they may have setup a red flag was when I was following a group of bots while farming. They were not picking up the loot so I just followed as a clean end point. So, be warned, if you follow bots, you may get terminated.

One thing to keep in mind, players are probably not banned because what they were doing at that moment when the ban hammer came down. It is MORE LIKELY that someone reported you before that time period and ban hammer came down after a brief initial investigation.

Do you guys buy your game key from authorized retailer or third party key seller ? There is a ban wave on many unauthorized seller because they used stolen credit cards to buy keys and resell those keys online.

Botting does not equal farming gold. It involves using some means to automate play without being at the keyboard. How much gold you have in the account is not a determining factor.
