I live in the USA. I have a friend who’s shown interest in the game, but she lives in the UK. I was hoping to surprise her with a gift, but I’m worried about this whole “region lock” business so I figured I might as well clarify before I try anything…

If I were to buy her the game, would she be unable to play/register it because it was purchased in my region? I’m just worried because it’d be a really cruddy gift if I were to try to make her buy it.

So, as someone in the Non-EU Region, how might I go about buying the game for someone in the EU Region? Or is it impossible?

(I tried using the Search function but it doesn’t seem to lead me to anything. Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times before.)

Unfortunately, your friend can only register a game bought from her own region (EU). You might send her a gift credit card or something of that sort. Or maybe deposit some cash into her Pay-pal account, if she has one. Or send money to one of her family members?

She would not be able to register an NA copy of the game from the EU.

The only other possible way would be to ask support for help – not sure if they can but they’d be the only ones who could I think.

I recently asked a similar question for a friend in the US. (I’m in the UK).

The game has to be got in the country she’ll be playing in. (Once registered it can be played anywhere, but you’re going to have to gift her a UK version of the game. Unless she’s travelling to USA soon :P ..)
She can then choose NA servers, no bother.

But the actual game has to be got in the country she’s in. (This is because of trade laws.) A USA registration key, will only work in the US.

How about sending amazon uk voucher? or buy gamestop voucher online? You could also transfer the cost of the game to her paypal and tell her exactly where that is to go :P

That’s an interesting update. According to the Knowledge Base, we can’t buy an NA version and register it in the EU.

‘For customers in the North American and European regions, upon registration our servers will perform a one-time check to ensure your serial code matches the region you are connecting from. Customers in North America must register the North American version of the game; customers in Europe must register the European version of the game;…’

Perhaps, someone could update the Knowledge Base with this new information. =)

That’s it exactly what it says.

Registration is to do with the serial code you get with the game. And the country you are in. It does not have anything to do with the server region.

It is a little confusing.
