Q:
How does Anet handle reports on misconduct?
ArenaNet Communications Manager
A:
First, we don’t take action on a game account for what takes place on Facebook.
Secondly, all reports are reviewed, so an account reported once or one hundred times will be suspended or terminated only if that action in deserved, not because people conspired to submit lots of reports or tickets. (In fact, those who submit reports or tickets can face consequences for false or harassing reports.)
I feel that you may not have all the details about this situation. You may want to discuss this further with your friend. And naturally she can contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page if she has questions.

I don’t know where to post this but I was wondering if Anet ever reviews mass report of misconduct before proceeding with the ban hammer. Recently a guildmate of mine was banned due to mass report of another guild just because she kept posting a recruitment thread on a certain fb page.
here are the facts of that said group:
1. gw2 group page of a certain country
2. everybody is allowed to post recruitment thread.
3. anybody who posts flamebaits, trolls will be automatically expelled from the groupwell, the recruitment thread she posted is as plain as you could think of. I mean there’s no flame baiting or whatever. Just plain old recruitment post (and the comments were civil). So I was wondering, if another guild mass reported her, who will review the reports before she gets banned? or will she automatically be banned because of the number of reports that Anet receives?
oh and we’re sure it’s a mass report from another guild because when she filed a ticket, she was told of the same reason why she can’t access her account.
No amount or reports will result in a suspension. All reports are reviewed by an actual living, breathing person before a ban is issued. If your friend was suspended/banned, then support agreed that she did do what she was reported for. BTW, it does not matter what happens on another website. Reports can only be placed for actions in game, not for something that was done on a third party website.

Did you see the actual response to the ticket she sent in or are you just going on what she told you?
If you didn’t read it yourself then you don’t actually know what it said. ANet does not ban or suspend people according to what they said on some site that doesn’t belong to them. Only for chat said in the game.

First of all I’m not a factfinder and can’t judge of a suspension is done in error or cause someone did what they did.
Denial however is a psychological defense mechanism that is very strong in social structures. Specially in smaller Guilds I have seen that people spend a lot of time online and plays a lot with the same people. Often guildmembers know more of someone then e.g. guildmembers. It is hard to admit you did something wrong and this means people often use the mechanism of denial towards friends and others. This can go so far that the person does actually has no recollection of things that have not been allowed.
In other words, it is easier to deny having done something wrong then admitting so often people wont tell guildmates the full story. This is often cause one is afraid of being judged on. It is important to give such person enough friendship to understand he/she wont be judged by the guild.
